When a group kind of finds themselves through a certain frame in a game and just over and over again really struggle in it, how do you sort of get yourself out of that?
Well, I don't know. I mean, I've never experienced anything like that with just one team having a hard time at a period, but it seems to me that You know, if A's not working, you've got to try B. B's not working, you've got to try C. I'm not sure. I mean, obviously, there's something going on with either fatigue or messaging or the long change. But they have struggled in the second.
Or maybe Anaheim's just been a really strong second period team. But they should have been able to hold the lead last night. They didn't hold the lead in game one. And then down the stretch in their regular season, they were actually quite good at it. They were one of the best defensive teams in the last month. So something is up. I can't put a finger on it myself, obviously. Nobody can.
It's a wider doubt. But they need to make some corrections, and I believe that corrections need to come on the defensive side of the puck.
um you know they've scored what four four four and three you know in the playoffs hockey that should be enough to win you guys some hockey games right um but you know playoffs are a different beast and you've got to find a way to lock down uh obviously connor ingram came out after game three and tristan jari came and from my point of view it seems like he played a really solid game what was your take on him
Yeah, I thought Jari did all right. I didn't like the last goal. I found him to be, you know, pretty deep in his crease. But he made some big saves. And for the most part, he did everything that was asked of him to win a hockey game.

I don't blame him. I don't blame Ingram either. I don't think the goaltending has been a problem at all. I think it's been a lack of offense and a combination of Some sloppy defense. Our PK hasn't been strong enough. Overall, I wouldn't blame the goaltenders really for the series so far the way it is. I blame the defensive as a whole and then lack of production up front.
Orler alumni Chris Joseph joining us on the show here this afternoon. Okay, so I've been around a long time. I've covered the team from the media standpoint. I've worked for the team. So the big thing for me last night was to watch what kind of messaging was coming out of the Orler locker room. I like the way they approached that one.
Didn't dwell on what had happened, but started to focus already on what they want to happen in the next game coming up here on Tuesday night. Do you see it the same way?
Yeah, I think they don't really have a choice. I mean, they've... They've had moments where they've dominated play. This hasn't been consistent enough, but to focus on the 3-1 deficit right now, it's irrelevant. All they have to do is win one hockey game, win 60 minutes, and that should be their focus. It's a tall task, for sure, but it's been done by teams in the past.
You know, the playoffs are a funny thing. You know, you get a little momentum swing one way and things can change. So, yeah, just focus on being ready for game five and, you know, having a solid game as you can. Make a few adjustments.

As you know, Anaheim's going to make some adjustments as well. So, yeah, focus on the next 60 minutes. That's all you can do.
Okay, let's flip it around a little bit here. Let's talk about some of the other series that are going on. There's been some very surprising ones. The Montreal-Tampa series has been fun to watch. I don't know if the Boston Bruins like the way they're being manhandled. Can I say manhandled? You know, that's been an interesting series, I think, for my money.
Yeah, I think Buffalo's legit. Obviously, you know, they had a very, very strong back into the hockey of the season and they look like they're playing a big physical fast game. They're And Boston, they're in tough. They're a good hockey team as well, but I think Buffalo's just a little better all around.
Obviously, you've been on both sides of the Battle of Pennsylvania. I don't want to say, but I think you definitely have a favorite in that one, maybe a little bit more than the other. But what's your take on that series so far? Because I had no belief that Philly was going to have a 3-1 series lead. If you had told me that earlier, I would have called you crazy.
Yeah, well, I don't really have a horse in that race. I've always been a Penguins fan. I love Sidney Crosby. Sidney Crosby's amazing. And, you know, I like the Flyers game. And I'm going to say, for me right now, it's Rick Tockett. I don't know what it is. I really liked him when he was in Arizona as a coach. I thought he was super dangerous in Vancouver against the Oilers as a coach.
I think Rick Tockett's got them playing a little above their level. And I think, for me personally, I believe Rick Tockett is the difference in this series right now.
Out here in the West, we've got Dallas going at it with Minnesota, which I think has been entertaining. But I'm really kind of surprised they shouldn't be in how Dallas is playing. I like the way they're playing. But what's your thoughts on that series? It's been fun to watch.
Well, that one is fun to watch. That's probably no one to watch because, you know, one of the top, were they two and three in the league this year? They're right up there.

They're up there. And, you know, like a lot of people felt that that series was even unfair that you're going to eliminate one of those top teams. You know, they're both legit. They're both, they've got all the ingredients, both of them. They've got goal cutting. We've got stellar defense. They've got high powered offense.
They're sort of negating each other a little bit as the series is going on. But, I mean, I think you'd be foolish not to think that thing's going seven.
Well, you know, we were just chatting with Darren Millard about the Vegas series with Utah, and he seems to think, and I understand he works for the Vegas broadcast team, but he thinks that they've actually had the edge, yet they're trailing in that series two games to one. But it's been kind of fun to watch Utah through the season, the way they have just got better and better and better.
And right now, I think they're playing great. Hugh?
They are playing great, and they're running on adrenaline a little bit as well. First playoff performance in Utah. But they're also a very fast team. I mean, they are a skilled, fast hockey team. Vegas, I would say, is a very talented, heavy team. But if you let the Manna, you know, if you let them skate and open things up, I believe that makes it a little more difficult for Vegas. But
But they're a good hockey team, too. They've got all the ingredients as well. So they'll rebound as well. I do think it's quite possible that Vegas, with their experience, will take the series. But Utah is ever dangerous just because they're just so young and fast. And almost the fact that they don't really know any better. They're just going hard and playing young and playing fast.
It's benefiting them right now, but I think Vegas has that opportunity to sort of Use their experience to sort of lock down some of that speed.
Chris, you talked about Utah and their young core, but the Flyers as well, the Ducks as well. I mean, a lot of these young cores that are up and coming are starting to show themselves. Sabres as well, where it looks like playoff experience doesn't matter, and that's not something that's really happened before in the history of the NHL. What's kind of been the result of that?
Yeah, you know, you're not wrong there. I mean, there's so much young talent out there right now. Like, for example, in Philly, like for a kid like Porter Martone to step in and be that much of a difference maker, you know, I don't think a lot of people expected that. Beckett Seneke in Anaheim to be as good as he is.

Utah's loaded up with them. So, yeah, I mean, it's going to be wide open, but they sure are exciting, fun to watch the young guys.
playoff experience become more important as the series rolls along you know both teams think they're in it the first couple of games and as it moves along you start to see the experienced team start to pick it up yeah i think so there's there's the adrenaline factor for sure like we've already seen it in round one um like i don't know about you guys but i watch the game i love watching game one of round one every game and it's a bloodbath and they're just so fired up they all just want to murder each other and then you see the series sort of settle in
And then you see more of that in round two and more of that in round three. And then, you know, almost by the time they get to the Stanley Cup finals, it's almost, you know, boring. It's really smart, strategic hockey. But that opening series and the opening games, they're run and gun, man. It's like watching the World Juniors at times where it's just wide open and fun.
You know, they're playing physical. So I do think experience plays a role. But these young kids are saying, screw that. We're not letting them play a role. We're going to beat them with our legs. And that's ever dangerous as well.
I got to ask you about the Tampa series with Montreal, which I'm really enjoying watching. It's nasty at times. It's freewheeling at times. Nikita Kucherov just keeps getting knocked down, and he keeps getting back up again and playing the power play. It's an amazing, amazing series, and it's all tied up at two. That one looks like it could easily go seven.
For sure. John Cooper's a smart man. Marty St. Louis is a smart man. They've got loads of talent in front of them. Different styles of game, for sure. It seems like maybe one game's going Tampa's style and the next game's going Montreal's style. But, yeah, that one's too hard, too close to call, I think. I think that one might be going seven for sure as well.

yeah we like it it's uh it's exciting you know we get to go to a few games here and there and some of the we bring guys in from out of town like we had bill ranford mike crucial miski uh vinnie dampus so they get the in-house ovation they stand up show some highlights we like that uh the community foundation is doing a lot of good work with playoffs with the purpose uh trying to
rally a lot of support with businesses around the city, and we've done a few of those events. So lots of good things happening. As we all know, in Edmonton, we all go a little bit nuts come playoff time. And now that the weather is getting warmer, I think it's our time. Maybe the snow was deflating everybody in Edmonton, but it's our time now.
