We have a Stanley Cup champion. It is the Carolina Hurricanes, and there's no other way to say it. They deserved it. They won the final three games of the series, separated a bit from Vegas. I know I mentioned at the start of the series, two great teams, and I took the Hurricanes in six. Super happy for Taylor Hall and Tyler Delo.
I've always felt you could take an interesting cross-selection of our texters. If the Tex went back for 10 or 15 years, and they do go back for five years, you would find that there were a lot of people over the last five years that love to crap on Evan Bouchard. And I wonder how many of those same people are the individuals that go out there and give it to Taylor Hall.
But I'm super happy for Taylor Hall that he's won a Stanley Cup and also stoked for Tyler Dello, who was one of the first guys that was brought aboard. And the analytics side. And then it is a MACT on Monday day. So Edmonton Oilers legend Craig McTavish for contract equipment is going to join us in studio. So Brent Myers and MACT in studio.
But at this time, we go to the River Cree Resort and Casino Hotline. We remind you the venue at River Cree brings you the best in live entertainment. As we head off to join Frank Cervalli from Frankly Hockey. Hello, Frank. How you doing?
Pretty good. How you doing, Bob? Good. Busy show. Thanks for adjusting your time. Wow, what a story. And it was a good series between Vegas and Carolina, wasn't it?
It was a great series. It kind of fizzled out a little bit at the end in terms of the drama, but to be expected with teams knuckling down at this stage of the series. And I was really impressed, I think, by the total stick-to-itiveness of Carolina from ā

Chapter 2: What are the highlights of the Carolina Hurricanes' Stanley Cup Final victory?
And I would say one other thing that stands out is like courage and conviction about what I just talked about, your beliefs and how you want to build it. Very clear sighted vision, willing to take chances and also just authentically himself. He hasn't tried to change and be anyone that he isn't.
Frank Cervalli joining us from Frankly Hockey. Bob Stauffer with you on orders now. So the Hurricanes have won the Stanley Cup. I do want to briefly talk about Taylor Hall. You know my feelings on this. I think he was...
I think the market was overly critical for some, because I've got some friends that are like, no, no, Stoff, the same guys that like Taylor Hall are the same guys that like Evan Bouchard now, and the haters are the same haters on Bouchard that there is on Hall. I mean, he was damn good for the Carolina Hurricanes. That line was unreal. He came in second in the voting, I believe.
Is that correct, for winning the Conn Smythe trophy? You've got to be happy for a guy like that as well.
Well, didn't we put this debate to bed when he won the Hart Trophy? Like, are we really having this again?
And some people say, well, how come he's played on seven teams? And I'm just like, you know, I'm going to tell you right now, they made it. People focus on the rant and end of that trade, but that acquisition of Taylor Hall and Taylor's commitment to play a slightly different game, Frank, and really be a driver sort of in the third line. By the playoffs, it was the second line.
But you know what I'm saying here. He reinvented himself a little bit, too, and became a better player. Full credit to him.
He's reinvented himself multiple times. I remember talking to him in Chicago a couple years ago. Kind of looked like his career might be on the ropes again. Not that much interest in trading for him. How's this all going to work? Obviously had a big believer in Tyler Dello from their time in New Jersey together. And Edmonton. Yeah, and advocated for Taylor Hall in Carolina once he got there.
And I talked to him. He spent four months living in the Philadelphia area, unbeknownst to everyone, rehabbing his knee. And when you are going to the gym every day, far away from home, far away from your family, where I think he had a young kid at the time, if I'm not mistaken, and everything in your life gets put into some perspective.

Chapter 3: What makes the Carolina Hurricanes a model franchise in the NHL?
Yeah, and so, and you ended up OD'ing in the process and they, what did they do to get you resuscitated? Well, when I walk in my grand, they already called my grandparents to the emergency room. So I walked in and at that point the doctor came in and told me to take my shirt off. checked my vitals, and then said, okay, open up your mouth. And then they put two pills in under my tongue.
And then came back about 10 minutes later, said, how you doing? I said, I still don't feel good. They said, okay, open up again. They put one more pill, and then I was out for eight hours. Yeah. Yeah. So you were damn lucky is what you're saying. Oh, yeah. If they didn't find you, what would have happened? Well, I couldn't swallow anymore at that point, and my hands started dripping with sweat.
So I knew if I didn't go knock on a door Sunday morning that it was over at that point. Right.
Yeah. And you've ended up having a remarkable recovery. Yeah. But you battled a long, long, this was not an easy journey that you went on.
Well, I mean, a little bit of a stubborn bull bob. I mean, I play in the WHL, right? Right. Right. In the 90s with taking the helmets off. So yeah, no, it was four strikes by the National Hockey League. Every strike was a longer sentence. And I was the only player to ever be reinstated after stage four, which is a full year and reinstatement by Gary Bettman. And then I came back.
Darryl Sutter signed me to a contract. I fought Mr. LaRock. Didn't go very well. Had emergency surgery the next day. And then a dark hole for about another two years until they sent me away for eight months. Yeah.
All right. Well, we're going to talk about the journey. We're going to talk a bit about getting opportunities in life as well. And we're going to talk about maybe people focusing a little bit more on the positive in situations. We're going to talk about your book. We're going to talk about your beer product that you got going.
And we'll get to all that after an 880 News Weather Traffic Update with Thomas Dyess.
