Uh interesting times. Uh the first exhibition games for most of the teams have been played. And the Oilers start with two games against the Winnipeg Jets. And I think it's fair to say, based on where Winnipeg was two years ago or even three years ago at this time, because this was around the time that they got both of those guys extended, uh or maybe it was long the year before, whatever the case.

Um, you know, Mark Scheifley, but more importantly, Connor Hellibach extended by the Jets or were sort were key parts of their future. Uh currently suspended by Kevin Shoveldeoff and the Jets is Connor Hellibuck. What are you, Frank, hearing on the latest on that front?

Nothing new. Uh this is a stalemate between two sides that really seem to be rather content, although both are are very unhappy with the state of things. You're dealing with on Connor Hellebach's end a a really stubborn and proud individual and and part of that um stubbornness has made him and confidence one of the best goalies of all uh frankly, of all time, um, to be truthful. And two is is the Jets are are knowing how significant he is to their franchise. This isn't a trade that they're gonna roll over on and say, Well Now that we're at the stage where we're we're missing games and missing paychecks that we should just cut our losses and move on, I I think they're perfectly comfortable to sit back and wait.

Yeah, it's it's gonna be interesting to watch. Uh is there a I don't know what the next pressure point is here because I I don't think Connor Hellebuck is phased missing paychecks when that happens in the in the regular season.

Right. Uh who logically would make the most sense? I mean we we we're sort of led to believe that Canadian teams are not an option and this will be something else we'll address in this interview about the American playing in Canada thing right now. But um who makes sense for you?

Frank Seravalli 2:50

To me, the team that has made the most sense is the Carolina Hurricanes. And a lot of people have looked at their situation. I know some really interesting comments from Sonny Meta in the last couple of days about New Jersey and the way that he views the position and people will say, well, not the hurricanes because they've never spent on a goalie. They've never spent significant assets. They've never allotted significant cap space. I think that's a faulty assumption based on the homework that I've done. They're following this situation closely because they feel that they've never had an ability to get their hands on a goaltender of Connor Hellibuck's magnitude. That if you can talk about a player in that echelon of the position, that what you're really focusing on is a true game changer that by the way, with his contract in place for five seasons.

It's real value. So they're interested and still talking to the Jets. Um, and certainly would be one of those teams that I think is gonna be monitoring the situation closely. Um, I'm still really curious about San Jose, the Utah Mammoth. I think you have to keep one eye open on the Vegas Golden Knights, even though it's hard to squint and see a path.
