Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?

0.031 - 25.17 Bob Stauffer

Hey, it's Bob Stauffer. I just wanted to let you know that you can listen to Oilers Now ad-free on Amazon Music, included with Prime. Welcome back, everybody. Bob Stauffer with you. Bob, not in terms of age, but purely stylistically, says a texter on the Ashley Fine Floors text line, does Colton Dock not kind of remind you of Antoine Vermette? in his time in Chicago.

0

26.071 - 49.697 Bob Stauffer

Maybe a little bit, but I don't know. I think Colton Dock's got a chance. I think if Colton Dock applies himself the way Vasily Podkolzin does, like Colton is big, rambunctious, is not afraid to scrap. He's had five fights this year. He's got a little bit of skill. I could foresee a scenario where Colton Dock becomes a very effective middle six forward here, okay?

0

Chapter 2: What insights does Bob share about Colton Dock's potential?

49.677 - 74.696 Bob Stauffer

And frankly, I look at Chicago and it appears as though anybody that Stan Bowman drafted, they didn't have a great amount of time for. They moved a bunch of those guys out. This text comes in saying, on the Ashley Fine Flores text line, out of Saskatchewan, Connor Ingram is the best goalie we've had going into a playoff. His calm demeanor on and off the ice will keep him settled in the long run.

0

74.796 - 104.279 Bob Stauffer

Positionally sound, saves what he needs to save, and even makes a couple he shouldn't. I think the team plays the best. And it's shown that they're confident in front of him. Again, that text comes to us at 780-451-8800, Ashley Fine Floor's text line. Bob, out of the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, this text says, the Ducks remind me of the Oilers in 2017.

0

104.459 - 128.652 Bob Stauffer

Young and inexperienced versus a veteran team. that is expected to beat them. The orders better be ready. Again, you can text us on the Ashley and Fine Floors text line at 780-451-8800. Sean says, Bob, I had a conversation with my dad today. I said to my dad, this is the best Oilers team in the last three years.

0

129.093 - 151.217 Bob Stauffer

They have a true top six now where everybody plays important roles and they have an actual bottom six. The D is better by a lot. The biggest thing they have is an actual NHL goalie at this time. Doesn't mean they get it done, but this is a better team. Again, you can text us at 780-451-8800.

0

151.197 - 174.103 Bob Stauffer

The Burger King texts us to say, the only thing the Oilers will miss playing the Kings is pissing off Drew Dowdy. He's a plug. Well, that plug made Team Canada over Evan Bouchard, who had 95 points on the season. The 10th defenseman in NHL history to do that. Again, you can text us at 780-451-8800.

176.706 - 196.986 Bob Stauffer

Bob, are the Oilers going to see any moves in the front office this offseason as in AGMs and in the analytical department? Well, they added three people to the analytics department in the last three weeks. Sort of flew under the radar screen. And I guess we'll see what happens with Bill Scott. This text comes because Bill Scott's in the mix in Nashville.

197.006 - 218.751 Bob Stauffer

This text comes in on the Ashley Fine Floors text line. You know what? If we don't get Berkey, it's okay. It's a little bit later in the day out east. He's done a lot of travel here of late. We'll tell you that Brian Burke's appearances and orders now are brought to you by Ultrashine. Commercial cleaning done smarter. We request your free cleaning quote done today by visiting Ultrashine.com.

220.368 - 240.621 Bob Stauffer

Keep text us on the Ashley Fine Floors text line, 780-451-8800. We'll also tell you the orders now. Prospect Report brought to you all season long by Reface Magic. Not just refacing, now offering custom complete kitchens. And here's where we tell you. Here's where we tell you. The Oilers, Bakersfield, Condors in action tonight.

241.403 - 257.732 Bob Stauffer

Isaac Howard and Quinn Hudson, two of the three AHL All-Rookie forwards on the team in Bakersfield. An exciting run to watch. We're also getting some questions about Vitaly Pinchuk. I do not have an update at this time. I'd say the Oilers are probably a...

Chapter 3: How does Connor Ingram's performance impact the Oilers' playoff chances?

258.607 - 283.47 Bob Stauffer

a long shot. And speaking of long shots, Dan from San Guto has texted us on the Ashley Five Flores text line. How many votes do you think Bouchard will get for the Norris? I don't know how many votes he'll get. I'll say he'll come in fourth. What do you think, Hayden? Where does Bouchard come in? I got him fourth. Think he's in the top three? Easily. 100%. You think he's in the top three?

0

283.631 - 296.325 Aidan

Without a doubt. I mean, look at the season he had and look at the turnaround he had. He completely flipped the season around. He had a rough start, and then he managed to fix everything. And a lot of insiders are starting to agree with you here, Bob.

0

296.605 - 319.086 Bob Stauffer

Yeah. Well, that's because I was ahead of the curve because I watched it turn in December. Yeah, exactly. Like, Drew Dowdy was like minus 10 from December until the Olympics. Okay? He went through it tough. He was part of the reason why the Kings struggled. The combination of Pareko and Dowdy, two righties, they only needed one of those guys. They should have had Bouchard.

0

319.546 - 338.623 Bob Stauffer

But I do not think he is going to end up in the top three. I just – and you know what? If you look at the actual numbers, a strong argument can be made he had a way, way better season than Zach Wierenski. Take a look at Wierenski's numbers down the stretch. That team won two of their final ten games. How did he play? Not too good.

0

Chapter 4: What comparisons are made between the Ducks and the Oilers in 2017?

339.383 - 365.596 Bob Stauffer

You can text us at 780-451-8800. Bob, do you think it's going to be hard to get rid of Jerry here this offseason? Or is it going to depend on what happens in the playoffs? Let's not worry about the offseason. Let's just see what happens here in the playoffs. Again, keep texting us, 780-451-8800. Craig says, I like the Oilers against the Ducks.

0

365.896 - 393.015 Bob Stauffer

They may be young and eager, but they don't have the dual superstar attack that we did. You know what, though? I want you to think back to 2017. Did we think of Leon Dreisaitl in the 16-17 season as a superstar? We did not. We did not think of him that year as a superstar. He really, when did he become a, just pull up his stats for me, Aiden, if you could.

0

393.616 - 404.329 Bob Stauffer

He had 13 points in the seven-game series against Anaheim. That's when he arrived. He had like a 70 off the top of my head that 16, 17 year.

0

405.191 - 412.099 Aidan

I think in the regular season, did he have 77 points? 77 and then 70 the next year and then 18, 19, 105.

0

412.159 - 437.848 Bob Stauffer

That was kind of the... And the 50 goal season. So he became a superstar in 18, 19. Even though you could tell he was... Just so you're aware, when the Oilers signed him to the eight-year extension... including some of the smartest opinionists in the city. Darcy McLeod is not a dumb guy, a.k.a. a wood guy. Like, Shirely got shredded for that eight-year deal on Dreisaitl.

438.73 - 460.388 Bob Stauffer

It was a bargain in the end. Now, do I think Pete Chiarelli sat there and said, oh, Leon Dreisaitl's going to win the heart and have multiple 50-goal seasons during the duration of his contract? Not a chance. And then even look at what happened. Like last year was the last. He should have won the MVP last year. He came in second to Connor Hellebuck. What about Connor Hellebuck? You see that?

461.65 - 470.121 Bob Stauffer

Do you think it's possible? Do you think it's possible we're going to see a bunch of American guys leave Canadian teams?

470.827 - 478.199 Aidan

We saw it with Quinn Hughes. Do you think Connor Hellebuyck's setting it up in Winnipeg for a departure? I'm not 100% sure on that right now.

478.279 - 480.803 Bob Stauffer

Are you sold that Brady Kachuk is long for the Ottawa Senators?

Chapter 5: What changes are expected in the Oilers' front office this offseason?

621.524 - 643.539 Bob Stauffer

They need some offense from Roslevic, from Savoy, from Bud Colson. They need some contributions from players like that up front. Now you're talking seven forwards giving them some juice. And then they need a third line that can check, and they need to bring it with the fourth line as well. It is 5.46 in oil country. I'm going to head off to a quick three-minute break.

0

643.84 - 672.017 Bob Stauffer

We'll come back with this day in Oilers history. I remember this game well. I was 17. I had just finished playing for Stu McGregor with Guy Grodowski when I watched this game on this date back in 1983. Again, no Brian Burke today. Brian's appearances are brought to you by Ultrashine. Commercial cleaning done smarter. Request your free cleaning quote today by visiting Ultrashine.com.

0

672.037 - 687.893 Bob Stauffer

We will try to do a make good on that in the past or coming up here in the future. Speaking of the past, we go to this day in order's history. Brought to you by New West Travel, your local travel experts. April 17th, 1983, what happened?

0

688.058 - 702.998 Aidan

Wayne Gretzky sets a playoff record for points in a game with four goals and three assists as the Oilers pummeled the Flames 10-2 in Game 3 of the Smythe Division Final. That record was broken six years later by Devils forward Patrick Sundstrom, who scored eight for New Jersey.

0

704.5 - 730.566 Bob Stauffer

Oh, that Wayne Gretzky, he was pretty good back in the day. Do you know what happened in that game? That was the game, and I'm going to look it up right here right now, but that was the game in 82-83. I'm pretty sure that Dave Semenko got into it with Tim Hunter. And I think the Oilers ended up getting a... a match penalty as a result of it. Here we go, April 17th, 2017.

730.686 - 760.35 Bob Stauffer

Yeah, Steve Semenko, match penalty at 4-0-1. Jamie McCown was involved in it, and... McCowan got... Semenko got a match penalty, a game misconduct, a misconduct, and a fighting major. Gave him 35 minutes in penalties. Tim Hunter was involved in the fight. Then Poplinski went at Hunter. Donnie Jackson peeled Poplinski off and beat the wheels off of him.

761.191 - 787.278 Bob Stauffer

And guess how many penalties were in the second and third period of that game? A lot. Lowe had a minor and Fogelin had a minor. That's it. The rest of the game. But... Yeah, Coffey, shorthanded goal during that five-minute major. Gretzky, shorthanded goal. Marc Messier, shorthanded goal. That might have been the first game in NHL history that had three shorthanded goals. Can you look that up?

787.919 - 807.915 Bob Stauffer

Why do I think that's the case? But yeah, Gretzky was pretty good. Messier was pretty good. I think Yolonen got into it with somebody. Gary Dornhofer was doing color. He's like... Get in there, Yolanda. Your teammate's getting the crap kicked out of him. It was awesome. But, yeah, the Oilers pounded the flames in the 83 playoffs. Calgary gave them a run in 84.

808.135 - 823.741 Bob Stauffer

The year Edmonton won their first cup, seven games in 84. Brendan Escott is here. He's got inside sports. We're going to be busy, buddy, which is a lot better than the option. We could be sitting there talking about the upcoming draft like they are in Calgary and Vancouver. You know what I'm saying? Absolutely.

Chapter 6: How is Evan Bouchard's Norris candidacy discussed?

0

931.566 - 943.223 Bob Stauffer

Yeah, playoffs. Most shorthanded goals in one NHL playoff game. For some reason, I thought it was this game back on, this date back in 1983. What do you got coming up on Inside Sports?

0

943.724 - 966.222 Brendan Escott

Sportsnet salute Gazdik. Actually, a conversation I had with him this morning. We'll play that right off the top of the show. Minor hockey spotlight tonight with Adam Manna at 635. Then we'll have the whole... Final hour of the show, some calls and texts and some practice audio at 7 o'clock. At 7.35, we'll build out our inside sports playoff brackets.

0

966.562 - 991.052 Bob Stauffer

All right. I can remember when I used to get invited to those with your predecessor from two ago. Just kidding. Oh, yeah, yeah? Yeah, or we had them on ours. Whatever. We do want to mention Road to the Cup starts on Monday. Our first guest on Road to the Cup from Spit and Chicklets will be Ryan Whitney at 315. So we're looking forward to our regular Monday contributors, Mac T on Monday.

0

991.032 - 1005.987 Bob Stauffer

for Michael and the team at Contract Equipment, and for Summers Drilling, Frank Cervelli. So we got a good show. We're going to have some fun on Tuesday. We're going to have some unique personalities in studio. Aiden's mouth is agape. He's in shock. What have you found?

1006.227 - 1018.879 Aidan

The New York Islanders played the New York Rangers, and they scored three shorthanded goals on the exact same day, Bob. Come on. I'm not kidding. In 83. Yeah, 82, 83 playoffs.

1019.382 - 1044.93 Bob Stauffer

That is wild. That is freaky. That is crazy. All right. Everybody, have a wonderful weekend. Your team is in the Stanley Cup playoffs. They are going to get after it. I believe they're going to elevate their level of play. I think that Anaheim is a different opponent and perhaps one that you don't take for granted as opposed to maybe playing the Kings for a fifth consecutive time.

1045.631 - 1067.901 Bob Stauffer

Again, Monday, road to the Cup. We're going to go three hours. Road to the Cup, Monday, 3-4. Ryan Whitney at 315. Oilers now, Frank Cervelli and Brian Lawton. Up next, an 880 News Weather Traffic Update with Zach Ferguson, followed by Inside Sports with Brendan Escott. Thanks to Chris Pronger, Ryan Rashog, Aidan Ganim, Kellen Kennedy, a cast of thousands. Have a wonderful weekend.
