Why the refereeing of the Scrum is becoming the culture war at the heart of the greatest rivalry tour, and how the Irish provinces fared over the weekend with preseason games for the men's and finals day of the women's interpro series. First up, South Africa head coach Razi Erasmus has named his team for their third greatest rivalry test against New Zealand this weekend. There's one change, we think, from their 33-26 win in Cape Town on Saturday.
Erasmus made a number of revisions to his name 23 in the hours before that second test, including swapping out the entire front row. Nadamien Willemsa is unavailable through injury this weekend, so Curtley Aronsor returns on the Wing. That means a switch to fullback for Cheslin Colby. He kicked 16 of their 33 points against the All Blacks in Cape Town. The series is level at one all heading into this weekend's test in Johannesburg, and the ongoing tug-of-war over how Scrums are being refereed during this series came up once again following the second test. Matt Williams was on hand to run through the second test with Owen Shahan on Monday night rugby, and he explained why the issues with the scrum have irked the Springboks so much.
South Africa won a scrum. So they they they'd go to the World Rugby Conference that wanted to change the laws and ran interference hugely on this and they won. Uh and I think that was very bad for our game in general. Because what what we've seen in these two tests has been absolutely magnificent, except for the scrums.
