My only thing from a defense standpoint is the goalies should be afforded his blue paint. That's his net. And McKinnon has to be responsible for that as hard as he's going. And Alex Stuck's got a point streak going, and that's awesome, too. But you can kind of go in with your top nine, right, your top three lines, and at any given night, like, somebody can step up. And that's great. And on defense, the other thing is...
Look, Rasmus Dahlin's a stud, and I don't know what Rasmus Dahlin says on the ice to get under the skin of so many opponents, but what Hagel did to him the other day, what Austin Matthews in the outdoor game in Hamilton, the cross check in the neck. Matthews is not a guy that gets rattled, and Dahlin got him rattled. I don't know what Dahlin does, but he gets people rattled.
He really does. Marty, I might answer my own question. I think maybe one of the keys for the team to be real deal Holyfield, if Owen Power can kind of be invested and get angry and be ready as opposed to a guy that takes... two or three years of playoff hockey to get adjusted to that. You know what I mean?
Like if he's all in and he's cross-checking guys and he's hitting guys and he's excited to be a part of the playoffs, and maybe it's a difference maker because there's always difference makers in any series and any playoff run. If he can be that guy right away and understand what's coming ahead, because if he's not, it might be the difference between winning or losing.
I'm not putting it all on one guy, but he could be the ultimate difference maker.
I don't know that he'll ever be... Yeah, I don't know that they'll ever be that guy, like Chris Pronger-type defenseman. But if you're going to get a puck in the corner and you just stiffen a shoulder into a guy and you come out of the corner with the puck and you make a play. Damn right. And he's done that this year. That was pretty vicious last night. McKinnon's not a nasty player, but where do you stand on the evergreen topic of protecting goalies?
So, I mean, obviously I love the goalies and I want them protected. But when I watched that play live last night, I come back after the Sabres game, I turn on the TV, this game is on. I'm like, oh, this is exciting. You know, I'm going to watch it. I didn't even think it was a penalty. And now McKinnon walks that fine line and he's reckless at times with the way that how fast he goes.
I look at this. You want to give him a minor penalty for goal interference? Go ahead. But the reason why Ingram got hurt and the reason why the collision was so big is Darnell Nurse pushing just that little touch makes you look at the feet of McKinnon. They went 12 inches to the right. Now the center mass hits Ingram. I think there's a way you can protect the goalies.
Number one, call goalie interference penalties. Don't just be like, no, we'll review it if it goes in or whatever. They seem to always take the approach of, unless it's a goal, we're not going to talk about it. So you want guys to not go in the crease willy-nilly like this? Call penalties. But last night, I'm sorry, but if Edmonton wants retribution, go to your defenseman.
And it's a hard play for Norris. He's trying to stop McKinnon, but that happened right there.
Yeah, he was going hard to the net. My whole thing is, yes, there's contact with nerves, but at some point the goalie has to be protected. I was fine with a two-minute penalty. I was shocked that it was five. I was watching it live, and I kind of went and grabbed a drink and came back, and I was like, oh, my God, he's getting the game. Now, how long was that review?
That felt like a 10-minute review, Hayes. I don't know if you're watching it live. It was weird. But the injury, I think, factors in. And, oh, you said it, our boy Hastings, right? Is that who wrote... Yeah, Blades is his name. Hasteman. Yeah, Hasteman. Like, you know, I think the ref looked at the fact that Ingram was injured on the play. He was cut.

I think there's a chance Fowler could be that guy, and I think this may be unfair to Jakob Dobesch, whose record has been unbelievable. He's done everything you ask him to. There was a time this year they asked him, do you think you're going to get sent down to Laval? He's like, what are you guys talking about? Have you seen my record? All he does is win, but his stats aren't great.

They wanted to see where it was at. It hasn't been good. And it's just, unfortunately, the guy's confidence is completely, like, out the door. So, and you're in a tough spot if you're Montreal. Like, Ottawa's coming back. Like, they're seven points back of Montreal, but they're only, what, three points out, four points out of a playoff spot. Big game tonight.
