Лец велком Карло тудишо. Carlo, thank you for taking time out to be on Promptly Speaking.
Carlo Mata 0:42
Pleasure is mine, Jack.
Jack Madrid 0:44
Yeah, it's been a long time coming. Uh, you know, uh not not many in the audience know that We've actually known each other for quite some time. So uh is I I've been looking forward to this to this conversation. So, Carl, let's let's kick things off. Um You know, uh my first question is You know, when people meet you. For the first time. What are some of these perceptions they have about you. that caused them to misunderstand.
Carlo Mata 1:20
So I I I I wear different hats depending on the circle of people I'm I'm with. Uh obviously at home I'm dad, I'm husband. Um but I I I move around various circles, not just work. And so because I move around various circles, I wear different hats and different roles, right? And sometimes Who I the the hat I wear sort of decides or dictates sort of the role um I I play in that interaction. And in the office particularly, I think one of the things that people commonly uh get wrong is that they think that I am an extrovert. Because of the way I relate to to the people, right? And so obviously in in that context, in that role, that hat you wear, I I am I'm very people oriented. I go out to people. I go out of my way.
Carlo Mata 2:28
I do my floor walks. I talk to people. I I go from table to table. Um, and it's so easy to think, oh, this guy really loves going out and and uh talking to people. It's true when I'm at work. But at my core. What people don't understand is at my core. I am really more of an introvert. I recharge differently. Um, and I think that's that's something that when when I do a QA with people, uh, and I say that they laugh, particularly in the office, because they think I'm lying, but it's true. It's true. So that's that's one thing that people often get. Wrong about me.
Jack Madrid 3:13
So an introvert in disguise.
Carlo Mata 3:15
I am an introvert in disguise.
Jack Madrid 3:17
Some people call that uh a social interest.
Carlo Mata 3:20
Okay. I am a social introvert.
Jack Madrid 3:22
I can certainly relate to that because uh I think I'm quite similar, but not like you people do not believe that.
Carlo Mata 3:31
Yeah, I don't believe it.
Jack Madrid 3:34
Uh so What changes when people get to know you more.
Carlo Mata 3:41
I think they obviously they they understand um The I have sort of different Sides, I guess, sides to me. I there are times I just really I need time away. Um I need time away from from interacting, uh, from a dynamic environment. I just need time to recharge to think. And you know, I remember I'll I'll I'll say this, like my wife when when we were uh when she was still getting to know me and in the earlier years of our marriage, she thought that something was wrong. Like, why are you so quiet? Uh did did I say something wrong or did did something happen? And she later understood that there's n absolutely nothing wrong. I just there are those times where in the day I have different sort of waves of energy and sometimes I need that solitude.
Carlo Mata 4:43
uh to to get away. And it's not my mood changing. I just need to recharge um and recenter.
Jack Madrid 4:51
Okay, that that that makes a lot of uh that makes a lot of sense.
Carlo Mata 4:55
Yeah.
Jack Madrid 4:55
Um, you know, I I was gonna ask you uh That are we talking about драматик мудшіфц. But but you explained it. You're it's just Carlo Mata recharging.
Carlo Mata 5:07
Yes, it's me recharging. It's me recharging.
Jack Madrid 5:11
So speaking of recharging, when you do get a day to yourself, when it's Carlo Matata. What what would that look like?
Carlo Mata 5:24
It is the opposite of optimizing. Uh w when I what I mean by that is when I get a day to myself I don't look to optimize today. I look for simplicity. Um so because of the the the nature of our work, it's very dynamic. Um we're always making decisions, we're always following sort of uh we're always navigating different scenarios.
