Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
The score.
I got five. It's time for Five on It. Rahimi Harrison-Roney. Bring you five topics on their minds today. On 104.3 The Score. I got five on it. Number one.
Dansby Swanson has driven in 15 runs in the first three games of the Cubs' four-game set against the Mets. Eleven of those RBI came in games one and two of Wednesday's split doubleheader. Has Swanson put an end to his struggles at the plate, or is he simply a beneficiary of the Mets' meddings?
There's no doubt that the Mets absolutely meted yesterday and last night, and a lot of writers are saying it's a new low for them. But there's a greater pattern here when it comes to Dansby Swanson. This happened against the Rockies.
Chapter 2: What are the highlights from the Cubs vs Mets series?
It's what I mentioned before. I think there was some real work done with John Maley. Since June 17th, he's slashed 478-519-1174. With 18 RBI and a 339 weighted runs created plus. Evan Altman reports that over his previous 39 games, he was at 142, 227, 205, barf, with four RBI and only a 25 weighted runs created plus. So I don't think it's just a series.
I think we may have seen his best self with these adjustments in this series, but pleasantly, I think this goes back a little farther.
You know what's crazy? We've talked about Cubs with runners in scoring position, and that hasn't been as important over the last six games because they put up the 59 runs. But this month, Dansby Swanson's got 28 bats with runners in scoring position. He has eight hits. That's twice as many hits with runners in scoring position this month than Ian Happ and Alex Bregman combined.
who are combined 4-4-45 with runners in scoring position. And I say that because if you zoom out beyond the five hits yesterday they had with runners in scoring position, you understand that Dansby Swanson is having a heck of a run over his six-game hitting streak. He's batting over 400, 11 for 23. This happened before the Mets series. The Mets series was just...
The continuation, and you hope not the culmination of a heater, because they need performances like this from him and everybody else, one through nine, this weekend against the Milwaukee Brewers, who you're down 0-3 on the season series. And ultimately, that's the team you're chasing here when we talk about playoffs. Again, the Cubs would be in the playoffs if they started today.
They just wouldn't be in the position that they want to be.
It's so frustrating to have that sweep come at home, too. Here's some historical context numbers to the 15 RBIs that Dansby has had against the Mets. The last person to hit that mark over a three-game span was Sammy Sosa, who tied a Major League record with 16 in August of 2002. And the last two of those games came at Coors Field before they brought in the Humidor.
Oh, that's good context.
So that's not just Sammy Sosa in 2002. That's pre-humidor Coors Field. I've been in the humidor, by the way. Have you been?

Chapter 3: How has Dansby Swanson's performance impacted the Cubs?
It's really cool because it's just like this wall of beautiful, pristine baseballs. 15 RBIs over a three-game span against the same team. Nobody had done that since Reggie Jackson for the A's against the Red Sox in 1969. And the only two others in history were Tony Lazeri against the A's in 1936. And Lou Gehrig was 16 against Cleveland in 1930.
Best part is he's got a whole other game to add to his against the Mets total tonight.
Yeah, the baseball history is ripe with that stat, so it's fun to read about the other notables in context.
Let me add one more in here. He's the first Cub ever to drive in four runs in three straight games, which is kind of a crazy stat because you would think someone's done that before.
That's simplistic. Yeah. That's kind of sobering, guys, when you think about it. Okay.
It sure is. The Cubs conversation continues this afternoon when manager Craig Council joins Spiegel and Holmes at 2.30 right here on 104.3 The Score when he has to address all of these issues.
Concerned. What does he say? It's the way he says it. Concerned.
Absolutely.
Number two. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to send you on a wild goose chase there.

Chapter 4: What historical context is given to Dansby Swanson's RBIs?
He can give up stuff like anybody else. He had one blown save coming in. He's now got two blown saves in the last three days. And so understanding what that might mean for this series going forward, because again, they still have 10 games to play against the Guardians. I like how that sets things up for them specifically.
They turn into Believeland somewhere around August or so.
Is that when they get Jose Ramirez back too? Because that's my bigger... I'm not as worried about Believeland as I am worried about...
Jose Ramirez, one of the greatest, most consistent players in the last 10 years.
You're making my point for me and you're doing a very good job with it. I just think understanding where can we get something going? And I like the idea that... Braden Montgomery has a little bit of confidence going forward. We're going to need more from these guys.
Would you like some breaking patent news here on the score? Patent? Patent. P-A-T-E-N-T.
Is this Iceman related?
Patent. Breaking news on the score is sponsored by IDOT. If there's a car pulled over to the side of the road, move over. According to our friend Mike Florio, Pro Football Talk, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has denied Caleb Williams' application for trademark protection as to the name Iceman. Well, Caleb Wilson, come on down. Still George Girvin. Still George Girvin. And Paul Wall.
Yeah.

Chapter 5: What challenges does the Cubs pitching staff currently face?
I've been having a lot of fun.
You're a natural.
That was John Shriven and Brooke Fletcher from CHSN on yesterday's broadcast, giving credit also to familiar friends and faces that we know who have also been part of the female White Sox analyst fame. This is Rahimi Harrison-Grody on 104.3 The Score. We are happy to go to our hotline and Twitch, twitch.tv slash thescorechicago on her day off. Brooke Fletcher is joining us.
Brooke, thanks for doing so.
Of course. Thank you guys so much for having me on.
Congratulations on making history with the team. And I think it was the best pinch hit performance. And we've seen a few from the White Sox this season. How did you find out that you were getting the word that you were going to fill in for Steve Stone during the Guardian series?
Well, thank you for that. I found out maybe like two hours before the game, they pulled me aside and Brooks Boyer kind of had this serious look on his face and I'm like, oh gosh, what's going on? And he said, how about, do you want to make history tonight? And when I get it from my dad, he always says, grab the bull by the horns.
And as a competitor, I was like a little hesitant at first because it's such a big responsibility and you're just kind of like, wait, you want me in the booth? Um, and so I just kind of, I described it yesterday as kind of like jumping out of a plane when you skydive, right? You just kind of go for it. And it was such a fun experience.
And I'm so appreciative of, you know, the White Sox and CHSN just giving me that opportunity. But yeah, it was it was a crazy two hours leading up to that game. My head was it was spinning a little bit, but it was it turned out to be great.
