What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
This hour is brought to you by Menards.
Save big money at Menards. The Bears
win. I got five. It's time for Five on It. Raheem Harrison-Roney. Bring you five topics on their minds today. On 104.3 The Score.
I got five on it.
Number one. According to the Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs, Karana Magaji is expected to be the starter at left tackle in Saturday's preseason opener.
What are the five topics covered in the “Five on It” segment?
The
plan is to
get
close to even reps with Jedrick Wills. Biggs went on to write, O-line coach Dan Rochard called their work pretty even to this point, and the coaches want more to evaluate. So the question is, what's your reaction to the Bears' plan at left tackle for Saturday's preseason opener?
Well, would you look at that? All that or talk? We got ourselves a starter. It is Karan Amagaji. And frankly, he deserves to be part of the conversation, does he not? This needs to be partly Karan Amagaji's job to lose, gain, stay, hold, be there. I'm getting less confident with the words I'm using. But he should get some reps there. That's the point. He should.
This is what they've been showing. Without Braxton Jones out there because he's injured, this is what we've been seeing in training camp. It's been Karan Amagaji who has gotten a... Even when Braxton was there on the final rep of the first unit, they would... Oh, there he comes. Karan Amagaji, number 72 fridge, would come in there and play left tackle for one play with the first unit, and then he would stick around for the second unit. But now... Karan Amagaji has been, for the most part, getting the first work for the first team. I think Wills actually, now that I think about it on Tuesday, Wills did. But this does make sense to me. Does it make sense, though, in a Kevin White sort of way? And this is what I mean by this.
Why are we bringing up bad names from the past?
Because there was, in Kevin White's final training camp with the Bears, I was out there for it, covering it for WBBM, I think, at the time. White! Yeah, that's right. And Kevin White was getting all the opportunities. They were targeting him. They were throwing to him. And it was like, oh, wait a minute. Maybe Kevin White is right. Maybe he's not an injury bust after all, or just a bust of a bust. Focal point of the offense. Yeah, and sometimes it's... Last call. We're going to give you all the opportunities in the world. We're going to give you all the reps in the world because of where you were drafted and what we might think of you. Is that what's going on with Karan Amagaji, the former third round pick?
Is it last call for Karan? Are they saying, okay. Here we go. We invested in you. We think there's something there. We're going to give you all the opportunities, including the starting left tackle. And maybe it's because they really think that there's something there, or maybe it's last call for Karan Amagaji. So I wonder about that. And I just haven't seen enough from Jedrick Wills yet for me to believe that that's actually something that's going to work out for the Chicago Bears. And it would be ideal. It would be great if the Bears were the team that was able to reclaim the Jedrick Wills, but this was a tough situation on the overall.
Yeah, I, oh, yes, Ray,
I'm sorry. I just wanted to add something because this could maybe, I don't know if it changes how you feel about Emma Godge getting the start, but the picture of Saturday's preseason opener is beginning to take shape even more. We're getting more tweets from Brad Biggs who said, Coach Ben Johnson said there will be a, quote, handful of guys that won't be participating Saturday against the Browns and said quarterback Caleb Williams will not play on Saturday against the
Browns. Okay. I mean, same thing as last year. So we'll see if that means that he's going to get shut out in the preseason or he will do like he did last year and play in the final two preseason
games. I could see. Okay. I still believe you need to know who your left tackles are. And when you have multiple in this case, and yes, unfortunately, they might hurt you. If they don't do their job right, you still need to know how to play with them.
