Chapter 1: What Bears business is being discussed before diving into the Cubs?
The Cubs are really hot, and we're going to get to them in a little bit, but we've got some Bears business to take care of today. This segment is brought to you by AlmostFreeTeeth.com. Save on dental implants today. Here's question number one.
How hot are they?
Red hot.
But we're getting to them. They're so hot. You're supposed to.
Oh, we'll do that. Come on, Ray. Before question two, we're going to do it. We're going to workshop the question. But here's question number one. What was your biggest takeaway from Bears coach Ben Johnson's rookie minicamp press conference?
He wishes Zay Frazier well in his future endeavors. It was probably the thought process behind Sam Roush, but here's the best part. I don't even necessarily know that we needed the explanation. To watch Ben's offense is to know him. So it made perfect sense as to why they wanted Sam Rauch.
I just said to myself, self, I'm not quite sure in the draft equation that third round pick replaces Durham Smythe. But then again, I don't know the ceiling on this offense. I don't know how far it can fly. So maybe Ben does. And then he sees this as a piece that can take it flying farther and farther into the sky and the reaches.
To the reaches.
Yes. I don't even know what that means. But you see what I'm saying.

Chapter 2: What were the key takeaways from Bears coach Ben Johnson's rookie minicamp press conference?
I'm like, I don't know. This seems awfully far to fly. It seems real far.
That said, I stand by what I said. Do, do, do. Yeah. That Dylan Thienemann and Sam Rauch are the only guys who are exact in this rookie class because I pretty much got a good idea of what they can do and how they can contribute. The rest of them, I don't know. That said, my biggest takeaway from what Ben Johnson said today pertained to Logan Jones, and that is...
The question, Logan Jones, ladies and gentlemen, he is the second round center out of Iowa who right now lines up behind Garrett Bradbury on the depth chart. But does he? Does he? And today Ben Johnson was asked about what it's going to take for Logan Jones to get on the field. And he said, this is just the beginning, ladies and gentlemen, time will tell. Ball is in his court.
There's going to be a lot more questions about that. This was just the beginning. But I am curious to see if Logan Jones will have a legitimate chance to start at center for the Bears over Garrett Bradbury. We're not going to know that until we see how the reps go down in training camp starting at about July 21st.
Do you hear me pensively tapping my Starbucks cup that is filled with a nonfat sugar-free latte?
Did you guys thank Layla for your breakfast?
Thank you, Layla. It's not why I do this.
Did you thank mom? Nope.
Stop. Okay, so here's the thing. Is that that is a very coachy McCoacherson type of thing to say.

Chapter 3: How does Logan Jones fit into the Bears' plans for the upcoming season?
You're out here giving people God stuff.
That's true. 20 Hail Marys, Layla. 10 for Shota and 10 for Conforto. She took two answers. You can't do that on five on it. I don't think I'm authorized to do that, though. Where's the five on it rule book?
I mean, I don't know. Yeah. You mean to tell me that you are not authorized to issue punishment in the Lord's name?
Oh, man, I think I have some Hail Marys coming.
I think there's a lot of people in this country who are trying to do that, just saying.
What if they were like, Grody, you have to do 30 Apostle Creeds. No! Way too long of a prayer. I am going with Michael Conforto.
They've changed it so much.
They have, and with your spirit, too. The Monday game, the Cubs beat the Reds 5-4, Conforto with the game-winning home run. Then yesterday, another great game, 3-3 with a home run was Michael Conforto all year. He has been probably another guy I would owe an apology to because I was negative about him making the team.
And then I was like, well, as soon as you get Sayevac, you can get rid of that Conforto. But Conforto, again, has shut me up. And I don't know that there's going to be another opportunity to give Michael Conforto the MVP throughout a four-game series.

Chapter 4: What are the implications of the rookie minicamp for the Bears' roster?
Just saying. He's a bench guy.
I feel like Michael Conforto was like, take this, Grody. It's a walk-off home run. Take these three hits.
If Grody is your motivation with the professional athletes and teams in this town, I wear that proudly. Tonight, the Cubs look to keep their win streak alive on the road against the Rangers. Pre-game coverage begins at 6.30 with first pitch at 7.05 in crystal clear FM quality on 104.3 The Score and the Northwestern Medicine Cubs Radio Network.
Cubs right-hander Ben Brown will start tonight against those Rangers in place of lefty Matthew Boyd who underwent surgery to repair his arm. Left meniscus on Thursday. On a scale of 1 to 10 on the confidence meter trademark, where do you rate your belief in Brown having a successful outing tonight in Texas?
I thought you were going to say the meniscus meter. The meniscus meter. That hurts. Which really just has more to do with where my brain is. So the American League as a whole is just random right now. Random as hell. Kumar Rocker, as we've mentioned, is starting for the Rangers. No relation to John Groats. Just in case we needed that reiterated. Ben Brown is getting the start, as we've mentioned.
But even based on sheer record alone, right, or just sheer conceptual, their division is stronger. I typically don't do that whole strength of schedule thing outside of college football in cases like these in a prediction, but... I like his chances. Like, this is not a world-beater Rangers lineup. I know Jake Berger had two hits. He went two for four against the New York Yankees.
But this is not exactly the world champion Rangers lineup that he's facing. So I feel like this is a good opportunity for him to be able to try to work on some things and get right.
Wait, did she give a number?
On the meniscus meter?

Chapter 5: Who stood out during the Bears rookie minicamp practice?
Now, you have a lot of guys out here today who will probably never play in an NFL game. Those are the rookie trial players. You have undrafted rookies who are going to be fighting just to make the 53, maybe one or two will. So expectations come down.
But yeah, it's nice to be watching football even in May and seeing kind of the high energy practice that Ben Johnson wants these guys to learn because next week OTAs continue and the veterans are going to be here and these rookies got to be up to speed.
Well, and sometimes, Kevin, we talk to Kevin Fishbane right now, senior writer at The Athletic who covers the Bears, on Rahimi Harrison-Grody. And Kevin, part of what I'm watching, too, in these periods isn't even necessarily what the players themselves are doing. It's how the coaches react to what the players are doing, right?
Yeah, that is a big tell. If a coach is pleased about a guy being in the right spot or doing the right thing. And sometimes we see something where we're like, I don't know if that guy was in the right spot. And the coach is congratulating him because we don't know the play. So that is something to kind of keep an eye on.
And we've got a couple of new position coaches out here that we're going to get to learn. Tomorrow will be the first official press conference for new offensive coordinator, Press Taylor. So it'll be interesting to hear his vision. We'll get to hear from Dennis Allen for the first time since last season, I believe.
So I'm sure there'll be some questions to him about the pass rush and who he's going to be counting on. Because that was another interesting thing is I was going through this rookie minicamp roster, guys. We know a big story off the draft, and we talked about this, was no defensive ends drafted. One D lineman taken. It wasn't until the sixth round.
The group of undrafted rookies also does not include an edge rusher. I think they had one defensive tackle among the guys they signed after the draft. Now, again, I don't put a ton of stock into that because those guys have a major uphill climb to make the roster, but it does give you, again, a little bit of sense into this team's belief right now in what they have on that defensive line.
So when we come out for OTAs, we'll be out here at the end of May and which will be our first time seeing the full team together. That's going to be the top thing, right, is going to be how these defensive linemen look. Because I'm out there today watching Jordan Vandenberg, trying to see the athleticism that the Bears loved. But that's a sixth-round pick at defensive tackle.
But he's the only guy out there today, really, when you're looking at those defensive linemen for a position of need. So that's going to be something we'll obviously learn more about when the veterans, when we get to see the vets in action later in May.

Chapter 6: What is the latest on the Bears' need for defensive line help?
Time to take a step down, Carmano.
Face Cam Jordan in pickleball. That's your punishment.
You know it would be Tyson Bajent.
Aw, the Baj. Kevin Fishbane, fun as usual. Thank you for this.
Good stuff, man. Thank you, guys.
I just suggest we all do the segment together about the preseason heroes. I feel like we're on a show where we could also do this.
You know who was a preseason hero?
Who's that?
Like recent vintage because he's one of your people that you like to talk about. Zach Pickens.
