Chapter 1: What are the five key topics in the '5 On It' segment?
It's time for Five On It. Raheem Harrison-Roney. Bring you five topics on their minds today. On 104.3 The Score.
I got five on it. Number one. What grade do you give the Bears for their selection of Oregon safety Dylan Thienemann with the number 25 overall pick in the NFL draft?
An A. I thought this was a good draft pick for them. I will say that if I were a GM, I would also try to pick the best player available for
for my position of need sometimes you have to just fill your needs in the draft okay that's how it works because otherwise you end up with like 95 dudes in the same position room and then you don't have anybody else and then you got to go to free agency and then the whole thing just becomes a vicious cycle so the bears did the right thing we said we didn't know who was starting at safety and now we know who is starting at safety they can pretend they can do a dance whatever
But they got, outside of Caleb Downs, the second best safety in the draft. He's excellent. Dylan Theaterman, congratulations.

Chapter 2: What grade do the hosts give the Bears for drafting Dylan Thienemann?
Bears A. It's got to be an A+. And people might be surprised because I don't go out throwing around A+. I might give you an A- at best.
Now an A plus is pretty much the best you can do.
Because it's not just about who they took with the pick. It's about them having the patience and understanding that the right move here is to either trade back or to let whatever's falling to you fall to you.
And no one knew, we talked about the coin flip earlier, 50-50 chance, according to all the simulations that Ryan Poles ran before the draft, whether or not Dylan Thienemann would even be there at 25.
Dylan Cease. Baseball brain still running my head.
If Cease is there, you get him, you run through his pre-arb years, but you also add a couple of years at the end to buy out a little bit of free agency because that's how good Dylan Cease could be.
We miss you.
Well, actually, I don't know if the White Sox miss him.
No, I... Chicago baseball. Like, he was a Cub as well, you know.

Chapter 3: How does the Bears' safety selection impact their defensive strategy?
I would say, my goodness, two years in a row now? Where Ryan Poles should get an A for his first round pick? My goodness. Let's wait until we get to the third round.
Number two.
What raised your eyebrows the most in round one of the NFL draft?
Oh, it had to be the Rams taking Ty Simpson. Like the quarterback from Alabama who had been, I don't know if propped up is the word, but I feel like he benefited from being the quarterback opposite Dylan Mendoza. Like I consider... I consider this. So, or Fernando Mendoza. Sorry, I really am in baseball brain. I'm so sorry, guys. Fernando Mendoza. Fernando Mendoza is no doubter.
He goes to Las Vegas.
So is Fernando Tatis, especially when he faces Hideo Nomo twice in one inning.
Fair enough. So when it came to Fernando Mendoza, that made sense. I love that he's a LinkedIn partner now because he had the open to work sign on. Did you see the commercial immediately after? Fantastic. Good work out of Mendoza. But that's who he is. He's that guy. Great interview with Laura Rutledge, too, during the draft show, I thought.
But that said, because of the draft industrial complex, as you put it, there has to be another guy. There's got to be another quarterback. And maybe somehow other quarterback opposing obvious quarterback is going to get some shine. And I feel like Ty Simpson is the beneficiary of that.
There's always going to be, I think, somebody who... And maybe this ultimately ends up being a good thing for the Rams, but Sean McVay's reaction... would indicate that it was one of surprise, and I feel like this was an impulse buy by Les Snead, their general manager. I understand that Matt Stafford is getting older.

Chapter 4: What are the highlights from the 'Who's Your Guy?' segment?
Sam Presti and Howie Roseman let them go to old-school celebrity death match fighting on MTV. Oh, wait. MTV doesn't exist anymore in that form. Not in that form. But...
yeah that's the move for me the pick uh the steal of the draft at 20 by the philadelphia eagles i'm gonna bounce through a couple here really quick because i was surprised that ruben bain dropped down to 15 yes i did have kind of a football crush on him i guess the short arm thing was a real thing yeah he's just he's got just those tiny little arms he just can't tyrannosaurus rex yeah it's
I mean, I wish it didn't matter, but poor Will Campbell. He really dealt with it this past year.
Chapter 5: Who are the standout players discussed in the 'Who's Your Guy?' segment?
Seriously. So he dropped down. I was a little surprised that Seattle went with Jadarian Price. The second Notre Dame running back taken off the board. And, you know, our guy Chris Emma told me, hey, man, don't be surprised if he goes in the first round. He's that good. There's just not a big sample size at Notre Dame because Love was ahead of him in number one with a bullet.
So I'm just intrigued with that prospect. And then the other thing, too, was at number 10, the Giants take the offensive lineman CeCe Maenoa. And he said, did you guys get to see his interview? They asked him about Jackson Dart and what he would do for him. He said, I will die for you, bro. He said that.
Yes, oh my gosh. I will die for you, which I loved. That was so heartfelt. It was. I was surprised, though. He was looking into the camera, and I'm like, am I Jackson Dart right now? Like, are you... This is the vow of an offensive lineman. Like, get you somebody who sacrifices you for you the way he did. My goodness.
You've gone too far, sir. You definitely should ride or die. We don't want you dying for anybody, but okay.
Well, Jackson Dart sometimes needs to be protected in that manner.
I guess.
I guess that's the devotion. Yeah, get you somebody who protects you like Francis Margot is going to protect Jackson Dart.
Number three. This is Five On It on 104.3. The score with Laila Rahimi, Marshall Harris, and Mark Grody. And yeah, it's a big draft day. But also, the Cubs are hot. They won nine straight after yesterday's walk-off.

Chapter 6: What insights does Chris Hampton provide about Dylan Thienemann?
What's your biggest takeaway from the win streak and yesterday's win?
I said, I said, how about nine times in honor of Ferris Bueller telling his, you know, the principal telling his mom, your son was absent nine times.
Nine times.
And we got it. And even Craig Council, even Craig Council, cool, calm and collected, sarcastic, droll. He was like, yeah, this this win streak is rare. It's rare. Now, never mind his former team rattling off 21 in a row last year. We won't worry about that. That's not the point right now. The point is the Cubs are doing this. The Cubs are winning multiple games in a row.
And again, we see the lineup contribute. Interestingly enough, Nico Horner did not have a hit in the game, but damn near everybody else did. You saw Alex Bregman, Ian Happ with multiple hits, Zuki, Carson Kelly, Michael Bush, Dansby Swanson with the walk-off, his first ever as a Cub. Kind of incredible stat.
Matt Shaw, then UCP Cor Armstrong come in in pitch-hit situations, but he was at least able to because of the riches. Miguel Amaya, the Phillies come back. Didn't matter. The Cubs were able to sustain it and walk it off. They were able to answer the counterpunch, and that's what I like the most about this win streak. That's what I loved about yesterday.
Two things about this win streak. Number one, when they have their next safe situation, who will be on the mound for the Cubs? That's the first thing that comes to mind after Cale Thilbar had to leave with left hamstring tightness at the tender age of under 40. I'll just call him under 40.
He's 39. We all have hamstring tightness at that age.

Chapter 7: How does Thienemann's versatility benefit the Bears' defense?
That's what I was thinking when he went off the mound.
In fact, stand up and stretch right now.
The other thing I want to point out, guys, is during this winning streak, there's a player on the team who is 8 for 15. That's over 500. It's 533 to be specific. He's OPSing at 1.522. My God. Is that good?
Yes.
And he did something less yesterday that he doesn't really do. He faced Atlanta and said, take this, double. Went from 0 for 3 on the season against lefties to 1 for 4. He's now batting 4-0-4 against right-handed pitching. His name is Moises Ballesteros. He is a problem. The man came in off the bench and went 2 for 2.
He is a problem.
He is a problem. He's batting 3-92 on the season. Do you... He's a problem. That's been my biggest takeaway is that Moises Ballesteros, whether he starts the game and comes out earlier or whether he comes in later, you don't want to see Moises Ballesteros standing and staring at you from the batter's box if you're an opposing pitcher.
Just up there, free swing. And the most important or the most impressive thing to me about this winning streak is that the Cubs have, in general, they have overcome. They have no business being on a winning streak at this point.
And if you look at it objectively, with your closer out, with two of your featured starters not able to play right now, and then if you even look at yesterday's game, it's almost a microcosm. The Cubs were up 6-2 in that game.

Chapter 8: What expectations do the hosts have for Thienemann's NFL career?
They were on the verge of blowing that game yesterday. that Hobie Milner and Jacob Webb allowed the game to be tied in the eighth inning. Adoles Garcia with a home run off Caleb Theobar before he got injured. So he's got the blown save, but the Cubs, and they have fallen behind in a lot of these games, not by much, and they have managed to come back and overcome it.
And no deficit is insurmountable. So I just think it's been the Cubs' ability to overcome things like no closer, no starters. Guys like Michael Bush, who finally are starting to hit a three-run bomb yesterday against the lefty Chris Sanchez. So the Cubs have overcome. That's the most impressive part.
Also, a texter I think asked our next 500 question, not for today, but perhaps for Monday if this goes. 630 says, the Brewers' win streak was 14 last year. It was. I was exaggerating. But they make the point, I think the Cubs can match it.
I mean, this is about as tough as it's about to get, though, with the Dodgers and Padres coming up.
You missed the top three starters for the Dodgers.
Yeah, that's the thing. That's still the Dodgers. You get a little lucky.
I heard somebody say that earlier. It doesn't matter to me. It's the damn Dodgers, and they're the best team in baseball.
Only local broadcast, by the way, is tonight on The Score.
Sick.
