The highlight you just heard on Fox was Jalen Johnson in coverage on TJ Hawkinson for a second straight play where he kind of kind of lost him in the pile and TJ Hawkinson spurts out and gets the big play.
What did you think about Jalen Johnson's play on the
Sporadic, I think, is is a good word for it. And you know, he he was in phase with receivers frequently throughout the game, but there were some big moments where he wasn't, and there were some big moments where where he guessed again. And Here's the thing, I I've been calling Jalen Johnson's games since he was in college at Utah. One of his superpowers as a cover corner has always been that he's never felt a need to guess. And he's just whether you're talking double moves, in breaking routes, outcuts, he's always been able to stay in phase with pass catchers. Part of that just based off his his raw natural ability. But then also the way he seems to be able to to read the body mechanics of the person he's covering.
And and there's of course so much film study that goes into it before this also to have a sense for what to anticipate. But you rarely see, have seen Jalen Johnson uh throughout his career just sort of getting lost in coverage, and now through two games that's the case. Now last season I didn't see a Jalen Johnson. Johnson after he came back from injury. I didn't see a guy that was moving, planting and recovering, changing direction with the confidence, the urgency, the suddenness that looked like someone who really felt good about where he was at physically. But to his credit, he wanted to get back into the lineup. He wanted to do what he could to help the team as they were pursuing a division title and a run in the playoffs.
I don't see physical hesitation from Jalen Johnson right now. It does seem to me that when when he's in recovery mode, he's planting his foot. And at times you can literally see him put his head down and get into chase mode to try and catch up to recover on the route. I do see a guy that surprisingly is guessing wrong multiple times here through both games.
