What happened at the Bears' first full padded practice and who reported from Halas Hall?

Vinny Rotino 0:01
We now go live back to Hallis Hall and to our hotline. That is where Mark Grody, our co-host here on Rahimi Harris and Grody and the Take the North podcast is working this morning. Mark also joins us on, is he on Twitch? Mark is on Twitch, twitch.tv slash the score Chicago. And Mark, I know there's already some action, some scary reports from the practice field in the first full padded practice today. So what can you tell us?
Mark Grote 0:29
Yeah, that is correct, Layla and Marshall. Yeah, full pads, fans in the stands, a sunny day here on the North Shore. But yeah, the big news today out here was that early in practice, Kobe Bryant, the Bears' big signing in the secondary, their star safety in theory. was carted off the field with an apparent left leg injury. Can't be any more specific than that so far right now. It is just what we saw as eyewitnesses and what fans in the stands were able to see is he got wrapped up with Cole Komet in a one-on-one battle. So he was carted off. We don't have any further information yet. It is not out of the question that before I leave here today that there will be some information on what's going on with Kobe Bryant.
Mark Grote 1:22
It wouldn't necessarily depend on it, but we'll see. I know that they are working on it. Tyreek Stevenson just spoke, and he said that he had very little information. Words were, hopefully he's back tomorrow or by the end of the week, but that is far from any kind of professional doctor diagnosis. But it's really jarring when you see that. I can tell you that number 21, Cam Lewis, was next man up playing safety as he went right in at that free safety spot next to Dylan Thienemann, who was getting all the time at strong safety. No funny stuff there. Thienemann continues to look pretty good today. So that was the scary scene with Kobe Bryant. I guess I could tell you some good news on the injury front.
Vinny Rotino 2:03
Please.
Mark Grote 2:03
Yeah, I got it for you. Don't you worry, Mars Hall. Kyle Menungai, who had missed three straight practices, we finally got to talk to Ben Johnson, and he kind of gave us some idea of what was going on. And he said it was a soft tissue issue and he thought it was day to day and that it shouldn't be long. Next thing we know, we go out there to the practice and there's, there's Kyle Menon guy at least doing the position drill. So I'm doing some drills. I did see him sprinting at one point in time. He looked good. My guess would be that if there was some sort of official injury report that went out today, uh,

Why was Kobe Bryant carted off and what immediate updates were available?

Mark Grote 2:39
That would probably say that he was limited today. But through my eyes and when I saw him, when I saw him running, I saw a man that was going full speed. I did not see him favoring anything. The soft tissue issue, I don't know the specifics of it. That's as specific as they would be. But kind of the yin and the yang there of the injury stuff is we were starting to wonder, OK, is this something serious with Menon guy? Clearly it's not. Kobe Bryant, a little bit more ambiguous at this point.
Marshall Harris 3:06
Okay, so I'm wondering exactly how this is going to affect them going forward, but I am very intrigued to hear what Tyreek Stevenson had to say because we know it seems like every year we're having the same conversation. Is this the year that Tyreek Stevenson turns things around?
Mark Grote 3:22
It's that, Marshall, and it's like we're having the same conversation on the critiques of Tyreek Stevenson because we have heard from both Dennis Allen and now Ben Johnson, and the word that keeps coming up is focus. Like, he's a really good player. There's a reason that he was drafted in the second round. But for some reason, he loses focus. And then the other word, too, is consistency. Sometimes he is not as consistent as he needs to be. So that was addressed to him right away when Tyreek Stevenson spoke just about 20 minutes ago.
Unknown 4:00
As a pro, how do you feel when you hear that? And then how do you go about proving those things to them? I feel about just, you know, I just take it as someone I just need to improve. You know, I feel like every day you come here in life in general, you just find something to prove.
