What injuries occurred during the Bears' Thursday practice?

Marshall Harris 0:00
Bears beat reporter for the bigs. Herb Howard is joining us.
Mark Grote 0:03
Herb Howard is here from the bigs. Herb joins us in studio right now. And, and Marshall, he smells great. And that to me, that is bonus points. Herb immediately showed he was going to be somebody asking meaningful questions. He's going to ask a question that everyone else in the room is going to want to know the answers.
Herb Howard 0:20
What then happens that they can't get out? It's a great question. Tell him I shower, girl. Tell him. Okay, well, yeah.
Mark Grote 0:29
Get a toke of this guy. He smells great. I'm telling you. Well, thank you so much, Herb, for joining us. This has been a lot of fun.
Herb Howard 0:34
It's always fun with you guys. You are absolutely amazing. I listen to you guys when you don't invite me, so it's really, really cool.
Mark Grote 0:43
It's Rahimi Harrison-Grody on the score. And yeah, Herb Howard is about to join us. You should follow him on X at Herb Howard 411. He is a Bears reporter for the Bigs Media and for the score. And you can follow at the Bigs Media on YouTube for the latest from Herb. But Herb, we are desirous of the latest from Halas Hall because we keep seeing things and it's not all very good things. What in the heck is going on at Bears practice today, Herb?
Herb Howard 1:13
Tell you what, the Bears are not currently winning the war of attrition, Grody. You know, there's some luck involved in trying to stay healthy and getting through a training camp, let alone a full NFL season. The Bears right now are not having that luck. We know about the injury to Kobe Bryant.

How did Braxton Jones' helmet incident affect the practice lineup?

Herb Howard 1:25
There's an update on that from Coach Johnson we'll get to. But today's practice, a lot of guys continue to go down. It started early in practice during the one-on-ones between the offensive line and the defensive line. Braxton Jones going up against Austin Booker. It was a regular rep at first towards the end of it. It seems like they start to get into a little bit of a shoving, pushing, pulling, grabbing match. Nothing you wouldn't expect to see in a one on one period. But while they were doing that, I don't know if Braxton's foot came down wrong. He planted the wrong way, but he immediately expressed frustration, took his helmet off, slammed it down and kind of walked off. He took himself maybe, I don't know, three or four minutes, and he gets back into the drill for another one-on-one rep against Austin Booker.
Herb Howard 2:06
Regular rep again, no extra stuff after the rep should have been over. But once again, Braxton Jones takes his helmet off, slams it down, or actually this time throws it into the bushes. And after that, he was gone from practice. You saw Coach Rochard, the offensive line coach, go over to him after the second helmet toss and trying to talk to him. But ultimately, he was removed from practice. He did not return. Karan Amoghaji stepped in and got most of the reps with the ones that left tackled thereafter. And so that was the first of the injuries that went on best day. Continue. You start to see more Montez sweat. The Bears defensive end also left practice with an injury. I don't know. I can't really speculate to you honestly on what that injury was, but he left practice and did not return.
Herb Howard 2:49
And then two reserve defensive backs left with what seems like a little bit more serious injuries. Dallas Flowers. left the field with an injury apparently to his lower body and then Javarius Owens was carted off the field with an injury that it looked like to his left knee. So four guys, at least four guys went down with some injuries today and did not return to practice. And so the Bears, they got to knock it on wood. They got to start having some luck here in terms of staying healthy. You talk about Javarius Owens going down.

Which defensive backs left the field injured and what were their injuries?

Herb Howard 3:18
He's the guy who entered into the safety conversation after Kobe Bryant went down with his injury. He started to get some reps. That's another safety down. You're already without Elijah Hicks as well. And so it's getting pretty thin back there for the Bears.
Marshall Harris 3:30
And you say all that and you hear a couple of defensive backs go down. I understand there was a talk from Ben Johnson about the guy who's been out since almost the beginning of training camp.
