Thanks everybody. The Bears. You're listening to the best of the Bears.
He's in for the touchdown, and the Chicago Bears have taken the lead.
A weekly mix of 670, the scores best NFL talk to get you ready for game day.
Dave Onestead hanging out with Mully and Haw on 1043-TheScore.
Mully and hall 104-3, the score. Always a delight to talk to Coach Wansted. And of course, we're getting into football season. Dave out there got a chance to watch the first padded practice, see some of the hits going on. Or was it the second padded practice? But you've been out there and you've watched them play. Yep. How are you, Dave? Good to see you. I'm good.
No, everything is great. Um Yeah, we're you know, uh in the b real barometer is when's the Hall of Fame game? Tonight, tomorrow Tonight Football's tonight, right?
Off season is over. Watching football on television is back and uh say uh say goodbye to your friends and family members and say see you in February.
No t no turn 'em back now, you know. Full speed ahead. Yeah.
I mean there won't be any starters playing tonight, but it's still football.
Yeah. No, it it was great. I uh I uh the the Bears people from R you know, Ryan Poles, all the way obviously Ben and the coaches, uh, players, you know, I mean Tony Medlin, the whole crew, those guys treat treat me so good and I appreciate it and just uh you know, an up close first hand, great talking with Ben, good talking with Ryan Poles, the whole group.
How did the Bears’ defensive line depth and new players impact the practice sessions?
I mean they were uh sitting down the defensive guys with Dennis Allen and them. So it was uh it was a very very productive. I use that word because uh it gives me a first hand view of not just the people but kind of what they're doing and and where they're at and what they're everybody's thinking. So Um, yeah, I I appreciate them giving me the the time and opportunity to to do that 'cause it it helps promote the Bears and what we're doing here.
So you're a defensive guy, what position group stood out to you during the padded practice?
Well, you know, I I I s uh as you guys know, how many years what's what's this? Booker's fourth year? I've been beating the drum for Booker for four years. To to me, you know, him and and you gotta give Sweat credit. I mean that guy practices like crazy. You know, he's a good player, he's an established veteran. Um I think the defensive line will be a little better, you know. I don't know how much better. Uh I don't have the roster exactly in front of me, but I do know the draft pick from Georgia Tech. When they were scrimmaging now, this was live. Take 'em to the ground. And he made some plays, a kid named Street who they signed as a free agent I believe from Tennessee.
Kintavious Street, yep. Yep.
He made some plays and these are defensive tackles. Uh now what's his name? The the big guy um Jordan Vandenberg. Yeah, Vandenberg. You know, he's so there were some new guys that caught my attention and um and then then Booker was getting after it. You know, there it's it's gonna be competitive, you know. I d I didn't walk away from practice and Everybody everybody in the stadium knows who Aaron Donald is or everybody in the stadium knows who who Richard Dent is. You know, I mean it it y you don't get that impression with the defensive line, but I think collectively, you know, whether people hate hearing that word or the defense of numbers. It's a committee. That's kinda that's kind of where they're at.
You like the depth. Yeah, I do I do like the depth. I think they've definitely improved the depth and uh you know it's gonna come back to the same thing again. You know, I mean I'm watching practice and when they're rushing for, you know, Caleb's sitting back there and uh, you know, i you know makes you a little nervous. I mean guys are running, you know, getting open and so forth. Uh so then they come back and they they dial up some pressures and they're excellent. They know what they're doing with the pressure. They would like to do the pressures, but you know you got Jalen Jo I mean, you know, it's it Gordon's not in there, they lose the safety, Bryant.
