Rahimi Harrison 1:07
Next question. Dave Wednesday.
Michael Aaron Flicker 1:10
Mully and Hall, 104-3 the score. You know the football season is right around the corner when Coach Wanstead is with us, and here he is today. Dave, good morning. How are you holding up?
Dave Wannstedt 1:25
I'm great. You are correct. You put that the right way. Just kind of walking around the condo, Jan says, what are you doing here? Get the hell out of here. Go up there with Mully and Hall and Mitch and hang out with Dustin.
Brad Biggs 1:37
So here I am. The Bears start Saturday. The rookies report. The coaches are back. The summer for them ends in a few days. Is that an anxious feeling for coaches? Do they dread or welcome that return?
Dave Wannstedt 1:51
No, I think... Going into this year, obviously having one year of how Ben wants to do things under your belt, I think the team, the coaches, they kind of know their strengths and weaknesses as far as, hey, this is what we're really going to focus on. So I think it's exciting. I mean, if you're trying to win a Super Bowl, which the Bears are, it's an exciting time. I mean, the coaches are anxious to get out there and get to work. The players... should be anxious to get out there. I mean, with their schedules nowadays, they get plenty of time off. I mean, God, I was looking at schedule. I mean, you know, before they really start banging around, I mean, they got plenty of time to, as we say, get your legs under you a little bit, get your mind set, and let's get going.
Dave Wannstedt 2:42
So... I think there's excitement. I can't imagine what Bears practices are going to be this year. I mean, they're going to be so exciting up there. You know, the fans, I mean, they got a taste of it last year. Right. And obviously they want more. You know, it's going to be interesting to see when you look around the division. It won't be easy. It won't be easy. I think there'll be a better team. Now, does it compute to more wins? That's the big question mark.
Michael Aaron Flicker 3:10
Well, you've got to be getting better or you're getting worse. Isn't that the old adage? So... you probably, as a head coach, have some things that you want to work into your... that you've already worked on in the offseason. You already know what direction you're going in that is slightly different. How do you choose to introduce that? Is it something you want to get to right away? Do you want to build into it? How do you get the new going?
Dave Wannstedt 3:41
I think, I mean, the running game is what the running game is. You know, I mean, we... They know what they're doing in the running game.

What does Coach Dave Wannstedt say about the Bears’ goals heading into 2026 training camp?

Dave Wannstedt 3:48
They proved that from a personnel standpoint, from a formation standpoint, from a play standpoint. So you got that. To me, the biggest thing is getting Caleb more consistent in the passing game with those high-percentage throws. You don't work on the end-of-the-game stuff that he does. That's just God-given ability. And I've told people – this all the time. I loved what Ben told Caleb. That tells you what type of coach he is. I forget what game it was. We had so many games where Caleb won it at the end. It was one of the games. It might have been a giant. I can't remember right now, but he interviewed Caleb. And they asked Caleb, what did Ben tell you that last time out before you went in? And he says, kid, we need you.
Dave Wannstedt 4:35
Do your thing. I mean, that's not holding up.
Brad Biggs 4:39
Great coaching.
Dave Wannstedt 4:40
Yeah, well, that's all part of it, though. I mean, how many plays has Patrick Mahomes made? You know what I mean? I mean, how many times do players do things, you know, and I've used this phrase before, going back to our University of Miami days when we went down to the U and we sat there and we said, okay, how do we want to go about recruiting?
