20 Jan 2026
Chapter 1: What were the main reactions to the Bears' loss against the Rams?
mullion hall chicago sports radio 670 the score he is the hall of famer the college football hall of famer we were joking yesterday mr david that olin would have been in 10 years ago if he stayed for all four years but uh he was already in the hall of fame he had a head to his career in the NFL, and he joins us now on the Plumbers 911 hotline. Plumbing Emergency, call 1-833-PLUM-911.
Local 130 plumbers get the job done right the first time. Olin, good morning. Thank you for getting up with us.
Appreciate you guys having me. If I would have stayed as long as some of these guys you're about to watch tonight, I might have won the Heisman at the second. That's for a whole other conversation, right? Tough ending, man, to an amazing year for the Chicago Bears, David and Molly. And just a fun year to watch.
And going over that film this morning, you see all the things that I'm sure we're going to talk about and people are going to discuss for a while going forward about, you know, the interception, going forward on fourth down. You know, it's just this team was, I don't know what you guys thought at the end and how you guys felt at the end of the game.
But this team gave you everything they had, fought to the last minute of every game. And it was really fun for an analyst like me to watch them win now.

Chapter 2: How did Caleb Williams perform in critical moments of the game?
You heard them all say at the end of the game that every year changes, that next year is not guaranteed, and they wanted to make a run in the Super Bowl. And I'll tell you what, I was impressed hearing that from them because that is exactly correct.
That was the right response, and Ben Johnson put it very well. And, Olin, you could feel... his emotion and intensity in that room and the sense of regret. And yet I think there's also a sense of how rewarding the season was. How do you balance those from a player's perspective?
Because today, cleaning out your lockers, knowing that nothing will be the same again because that group of players was so special. And as difficult as it is, it's still promising. So that's a difficult balance to strike.
It's a great question. How do you balance those feelings of who's going to be there, who's not? How do you feel about the season you just had? Really accomplished a lot right in that season. We talked a lot before going into this year.
Chapter 3: What were the controversial coaching decisions made during the game?
Glad we don't have to mention next year that the Bears haven't won a playoff game since I played and they went on to beat the Green Bay Packers in spectacular fashion, right? And that was a great win for the city and the Chicago Bears and the team. But as you guys know, you guys have been following this league a long time. A lot of these guys won't be back.
You want to celebrate at the end of the year with the Super Bowl ring, right? That is the ultimate goal, to go there and win the Super Bowl.
And when you don't, and you have a team that you feel like is special, you have a team that you feel like is a team of destiny, this team kind of looked great when you watched them play, especially when Caleb got the ball from the 14-yard line and dropped back to the 40-yard line and decided to throw a touchdown pass.
to co-commit, and I'm thinking, man, Virginia McCaskey is smiling now on the Chicago Bears this year, right, with that huge patch on their shoulder pads, but at the end of it, man, it's just, we all know that if you don't get to the ultimate goal, it feels like you came up short, and then that's from a guy who came up and lost that game, right, and then you want to celebrate the year, but you don't get
to the point where you get the Super Bowl ring and that is the ultimate goal. And I think that's what Ben was saying at the end of the game. But that you could tell by his demotion, the way he talked about his team, that he knew he had a special group in there, a group that fought for each other, a group that fought to the end of every football game, a group that I think I enjoyed watching.
I enjoyed watching the way they competed for each other, the way they got after football teams, the way they believed themselves. They were always in the football game. A young quarterback who became a multiplier as the year went on. A young football team, a defense that found a way to keep the number one Rams offense out of the end zone all game.

Chapter 4: How did the Bears' defense perform against the Rams' offense?
Just a very interesting football team to watch. You never knew what you were going to get. Even when they were overmatched, you knew they were going to find a way to be in the football game.
Yeah, and I've got to tell you, we all know the reality of the NFL is not for long. And there are going to be different people, probably different coaches. Maybe they're moving up. I don't know. But there's always change. That is the only constant, really, in life and certainly in sports and in the NFL in particular. I think that...
I was appreciative of the fact that everybody so far this morning and obviously last night in the postgame, there's a lot of appreciation for what was seen. And you mentioned it. They won a playoff game, and I think we have a different feeling about that. They found a head coach, and man, they got that decision right, it would appear. They found a quarterback.
Chapter 5: What emotional impact did the loss have on the players and fans?
And that kid looks like he wants to win and wants to get better. I loved hearing from him in the postgame where he talked about working on his footwork and that will help him with his accuracy. It just feels like they're moving in the right direction. And I can't...
Think of many times where you say that about the Chicago Bears, where you don't come out of a season and say, yeah, well, if they had the quarterback or if that kid was a little bit better or this guy could do this. I feel like they really did kind of top out. They got everything they could from their team.
6-11, 3-14, 7-10, 5-12, 11-6 this year, right? So they turned it around this year and we know that is why everyone who's probably calling in this morning, I feel it, you guys feel it. It's like, yeah, we took a step forward here this year and you got the... You know, what did Ted Phillips say years ago, right?
We don't have the quarterback, we don't have the coach, we don't have the winning record, but everything else is here, right? Well, now President Warren can come out and George McCaskill can say, look, man, we got the quarterback and we got the coach and we are winning football games, right? And I don't know how many times, guys, you can go back.
through Bears history and feel like that after the season has ended, that you do have your quarterback.

Chapter 6: What lessons can the Bears learn from this season's performance?
Let's build around this young player from USC, Caleb Williams, who seems like he has the clutch gene this year, who can make plays. And even in this game, when I went through this game, guys, he was being a multiplier. Guys were getting beat. He was running for first down.
You guys remember the 26-yard game late in the game, right, where he got out of there and Jared Burr said, look, I figured it out. I just got to go for the ball. Well, he figured out that that's not it. He didn't figure it out. And then he made the linebacker land man miss, and he went for the gain. And then there was an OT where he ran on 34 and made number 10 miss.
And then he put his shoulder down and got the first down and just kept doing things at the end of the game. And obviously the interception comes, and he had five in the last three games. It's something I'm sure that they want to talk about. Ben Johnson wants to talk about with him after the season. But a young quarterback that grew, and when you can say that,
Chapter 7: How does the Bears' future look after this playoff run?
For your franchise, man, as you guys know, the most important thing to say after the year, right, is, hey, man, I think we got the right coach who can develop a quarterback. Our offensive scheme is not going anywhere. They will lose guys, right? They will lose, you know, maybe Al Harris, maybe Declan Doyle, maybe Coach Bien-AimƩ. You never know.
These are just names that I'm sure people are excited about. But, you know, Dennis Allen comes back, the defensive coordinator. He ain't going nowhere. And their special teams coordinator is not going anywhere. So their scheme is back in the building. They look like they're on the right path.
They look like they got a young coach who gets it, who never lets off the gas pedal, who pushes everybody, who keeps everybody uncomfortable. How many times have we heard that from a new coach coming to the Chicago Bears? I'm going to keep everybody uncomfortable. I'm going to hold them accountable.
Chapter 8: What are the key highlights from the post-game analysis?
First time at the end of the year. The players will echo what that guy said and said, yeah, he did do that to me. And you heard Caleb talk about how hard Ben was on him all year. And then almost crying in the locker room thanking this guy because gosh, when you have four coordinators in a year, you feel like you're doing great. And you guys, you guys mentioned Straub earlier.
Look what he's going through with all the coordinators you got down there. Coaching is hard to find in the NFL. Development is hard to find in the NFL. And it looks like the Chicago Bears are on the right path.
Could not agree more, Olin, and I think that DeAndre Swift, fighting back tears postgame, spoke to that when he said the lesson that he took away from this season more than any was hard work works. And that's straight from the head coach's mouth to his players' ears, and you could see they played with that purpose.
Just wondering now, you take a step back, and as much as I agree with everything you said, let's look at it from your analyst role. You've got two fourth-down situations that Ben Johnson ā being aggressive and tapping into that aggressiveness, passed up field goals, left the points maybe off the board.
And he could have kicked a field goal on the opening drive and then later could have attempted a field goal. It would have been a long one, but Santos is in his home field. What did you think about those decisions and then Ben Johnson's overall aggressive approach against a Ram team that he knew was going to score some points?
First, I always take the points, you know, but I know this. If you feel that way, then you shouldn't hire Ben Johnson, right? That is the coach that we got. And, you know, I got a public service announcement. He's never going to take the points, guys, especially against the number one offense in the league, right? And we'll complain about it and say he was wrong, but that's not who he is.
And you guys made a great point earlier that early in the game, He doesn't know if they're going to stop that offense, especially after the first drive, right? And what the Rams, what his defenses look like and what the Rams have looked like. And Stafford sure did look cold throwing that football yesterday. But the defense is secondary.
I heard you guys keep praise on Brister even late in the game. Kevin Byard makes a two-yard tackle for loss, right? This defenseman, Dennis Allen, again.
Yeah.
