I'll tell you what, you caught me off guard for sure, springing the question on me and then not having any coffee or anything. Not jeopardized our friendship with Kaner, but it was a private conversation. And I'm glad it worked out for Kaner and his family and the Blackhawk fans and everybody. But you don't get me too often. You got me good there.
Didn't mean to put you on the spot, but all is well that ends well. Tell us why this is a big moment for Hawks fans and why it makes sense for Patrick Kane.
I mean, obviously what Patrick accomplished as a Blackhawk, and he's always going to be known as a Blackhawk, to come back and um at this time especially when the hawks are on their way up and you know and bedard being out is going to be a great boost for the team you know in the beginning of the season caner still got lots of gas left finished off really well last year so um it's great you have to have that culture and caner's part of that culture that's the success that the hawks had with the three stanley cups and what he built here so it's tremendous and the fan base i you know i'm Tons of texts, tons of calls. Everybody's really excited about the season starting and seeing Patrick back on the ice as a Blackhawk.
Chris, Patrick's had a couple of stops since last he was here. I'm wondering, what is that like from your perspective? You've been at different places. You've come into different teams. How do you behave when you're coming in? And this is effectively a new team, although Kaner knows everything Everybody working in the building knows everyone involved in the organization. He practices in the offseason here. So what will it be like for him, just the difference from his last previous stop?
Well, I'm guessing it'll be a real easy transition. Like you said, he's played a lot of years here. He's familiar with the city. And as before, when he had all the support from guys like Keith and And the veterans, you know, Taser, Seabrook, he's that guy now and he's going to provide that leadership. Whereas before he was one of those guys that just fit in and had that support with him and built what they did. So it's going to be great. I think he's got to be so excited to be coming back and I'm happy for him and his family, as I said.
Chelly, I don't want this to sound like a dumb question, but curious because there were times where Patrick Kane would not necessarily be with the top center. They would play him on a different line because you wanted to spread things out. Are you assuming, should we assume, that he will be on the same line with Conor Bedard? And also, obviously, the power play is where he could make the biggest impact.
How did Chris Chelios react to the news of Patrick Kane returning to the Blackhawks?
Well, yeah, that's first and foremost. He's going to boost that power play, no question. But as far as line combinations, things change during the course of this season. I'm sure Coach Blaschel is going to try different combinations of lines.
