This hour is brought to you by Menards. Sabing Money and
Menards And the Bears.
Dan Weederer,
the Bears reporter
and senior writer for the athletic. You're gonna be relying on a lot of young players. Guys that have to materialize into who they thought they were. The Bears or who we thought they were.
On their contributor for 1043 the score. We'll mention this mainly because Dan Weederer said we would mention this nugget. Host of the Take the North podcast. We're gonna take the North and never give it back. Dan Weederer. Thanks, Coach. We'll f go first to Dan Weedier. On Chicago Sports Radio, 1043 the score. Crazy!
We love talking to Dan Weederer. After all, he is Mark's partner on the Take the North Podcast. You may know it as T T N. He's the senior writer at the Athletic Covering the Bears, co host of that podcast, and he joins us on Twitch and our hotline, Twitch dot TV slash the score Chicago. Dan, how are you today?
I'm doing good. How's everybody?
Well we had some Molly Crew talk and then I found out you like Creed.
I I don't think I'd uh necessarily like Creed. I'm just not I don't ha take exception to Creed at all. So there's a few songs that that I'll I'll I'll get down to and that used to play on the jukebox uh when we'd be out really, really late and my buddy Mark would go in and uh put 'em on repeat. But uh it's not like uh a top top shelf uh musician for me.
You guys would get emotional is what you did. You you would used to play arms wide open with arms wide open. I now listen. I believe it was one that was Okay, that's better than arms wide open.
Now listen, I will confess to liking Nickelback, okay? I will confess to Liking. Oh, we
we talked Nickelback on that same show if I th if I remember correctly, Dan, didn't we?
But did you guys talk about this with this uh with Cole Komet though? That's the question.
He is the bottom of every bottle. No. I
We
did
we d uh speaking of bottles, we did get to uh Funky Cold Medina by Tone Loke yesterday. Yeah.
So there you go. That was beautiful, fellas. She was fine.
It's a good song. I mean, what can you do? Uh, now that we've gotten that out of the way, Dan, Mark Roadie texted our thread yesterday because he went to the hall. You were there for a very informative day. Ben Johnson spoke, Caleb Williams spoke, Garrett Bradbury spoke and said, uh, Ben Johnson and the the theme was intense. Like, how would you put it if you were to describe that to us, Mark? Because I want to get Dan's thoughts on it too. It was
yeah, it was just he was just it just had that dead serious tone. And it's not unlike a lot of the the Ben Johnson press conferences, but he knew had some rough things to reveal, not to mention that they were about to embark upon what probably they considered one of the most important practices of the year. I don't know if you saw it the same way, but that seemed like a very serious man in that press conference room yesterday out at House Hall
Day. Well I yeah, I think it's two parts. I think it's what you mentioned. I think there was the revelation of the Kobe Bryant news, which is a a jarring piece of information to take public. And then I do think that they felt like yesterday's onfield work was very serious business and very significant to what they're trying to do to identify what needs work on this football team and where certain guys stand on the roster. And so they were ready to get down to to business for that roughly two-hour practice out there on field four. four and uh and and and Ben likes to set a tone with the with the way he communicates.
I also think guys, we were talking about just I wanna get your background too, because we were talking about the concept of from what it sounded like when Dennis Allen spoke and when the Bears have spoken about the defense, they thought that their secondary was going to help get them sacks. Like that perhaps the pass rush was going to come in the form of coverage sacks. And this Bryant news really makes that even more debilitating to hear.
Yeah, agreed. I and Look We tried to talk about this yesterday in terms of putting the proper frame around the length of this injury.
