That's just that's just my my lifestyle that I live for a long time here at the score. But Evan, this is a great time to have you on, with the Cubs having just taken two out of three from the Royals. What was your view of this series? And what did you think of seeing Kevin Gossman and Clay Holmes in Cubs uniforms? Because it just looks nice to see new pictures in Cubs uniforms.
Yeah, you know, it's it's kind of funny to look at it and say it's disappointing when the Cubs only win two out of three, but you know, when you looked at the matchups you felt like that was one that they that they should sweep. Um But kind of coming back from that that second game not great and kind of understanding, you know, Holmes' first time back on the mound in the big leagues in a couple of months, uh dealing with the fractured leg. Um, but I you know, I'd be lying if I wasn't concerned, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. When you look at it like right out of the gate, Gossman takes a comebacker off the foot, right? You're thinking all the as snake bit as they've been of of all the injuries they've had.
And you know, the reason that Holmes was out for so long was he got hit in the leg with a comebacker earlier in the season, 111 miles an hour. Gossman takes one off the leg, 106 miles an hour. You're going, come on. Yeah. The first game, the you know, the first, second inning, this can't happen. But no, I think similar to when you see guys coming up and making their debuts, there's just so much energy that comes along with that. Just positivity. You get these guys. guys coming in, solid veterans who've been around for a while, who now get to get back in a playoff race. And uh and and that and seeing those guys just further acclimate, I think is a really, really strong sign for what this team's going to do over the next few weeks.
Evan, I think you hit the nail on the head when you talked about expected sweep. I mean, the expectations are back up to where they were really at the beginning of the season. Now they've got this replenished pitching staff and more to come with the return of guys like, I don't know, Daniel Palencia, Edward Cabrera, maybe even Shelby Miller. Like it it almost doesn't seem real how much wealth they have found at the pitching stop. Post deadline, right?
