But I just, I feel like early in my career, I learned something from Kirk every day, whether it was football related or life related. And so that was just like a cool five years for me to just kind of have a mentor and a friend out there. And then spent a year with Sam Darnold and we were kind of the same experience at that point and kind of learning from each other.
And then to the other end of the spectrum with a 22-year-old quarterback last year, and Caleb is the same age. But it's the same process of, like, I want to get to know them, and they want to get to know me. And if there's ways I can help them, I think the quarterback position is so unique that there's so many people talking to them. There's so much on their plate that you don't want to be a guy that just adds to that. And so... I kind of want to pick my spots and find ways if I can help them in any way, then great. That's what I'm here for. But I don't want to add, I don't just want to be another voice in their head. You don't want too many voices in Caleb Williams' head. It's like he read the past tea leaves and predicted his future.
And I love his attitude overall. Get in where you freaking fit in. That is what Gary Bradbury should be doing going forward. I mean, he's already seen success, so he knows what success looks like. And now bring that to the Bears. And that's why this signing, although it's not... at the high end of what they could have done at center potentially, it seemed like an adequate move. And again, when in doubt, trust Ben Johnson. Well, that's it. What do you see in him as a center, having worked with Frank Ragnow, having wanted Drew Dallman? What do you see in him that leads you to believe in Garrett Bradbury that this is your guy? And he also talks about that experience with his quarterbacks that he's worked with in his career.
The Kirk Cousins thing I found very interesting. because I don't know that I necessarily knew how much... Obviously, you think some, that he's communicating with the centers, but I don't know if that was a discussion that was ever top of mind that he was having. You just knew him to be a consistent quarterback. So... I appreciate him talking about that aspect of it and what he learned from him specifically. There's a reason Kirk Cousins got paid into the age he did and why he's always talked about in the league. And I feel like details like this matter. But for him to give a context, Bradbury, and to put it in this way, I feel like it's also good experience that can pair up with Caleb Williams in year three for him.
I wonder how long it's going to take. That's my biggest question going into this. We know that going into the bye week, they were like, all right, we're figuring things out. We get a bye. And guess what? After the bye, the line had it figured out.
