Chapter 1: What is discussed at the start of this section?

1.027 - 4.891 Unknown

This hour is sponsored by Wintrust.

0

4.911 - 26.612 Leila Rahimi

The views and opinions of Layla Rahimi, Marshall Harris, and Mark Grody should not be taken too seriously. Especially when they give advice. Do not take Marshall's analogies literally. Especially when it comes to Russell Dorsey. The sports thoughts of Rahimi, Harris, and Grody may change at any time. It's just sports. Okay, thanks, bye. Rahimi, Harris, and Grody. 10 to 2 on 670 The Show.

0

27.571 - 33.222 Unknown

Listen to Tom Izzo calling out one of his players' defense.

0

33.242 - 34.444 Mark Grote

You can't guard my mother.

0

35.145 - 39.373 Unknown

My mother. Tom Izzo is 70 years old. We're to that point.

39.554 - 42.279 Mark Grote

Dorothy Izzo, his mother, 99 years old.

42.439 - 46.086 Unknown

Tom Izzo was asked about it in the post-game press conference. Has to be.

46.066 - 59.553 Leila Rahimi

I'm hoping that it ticks him off and maybe he'll play better angry because check USA Today tomorrow, him and my mom will be going at it in a nursing home and a gym and we'll see how he does.

59.734 - 61.898 Mark Grote

I'm glad he added the gym part. Nursing home?

Chapter 2: How do the hosts react to the NFL coaching carousel?

588.263 - 599.418 Mark Grote

As you mentioned, Bill Belichick, you can end up a Hall of Famer and never win Coach of the Year. Yeah, and that's why it should just be called the best turnaround coach. Okay, that's a difference.

0

599.438 - 601.02 Unknown

That's how Nagy won it, yeah.

0

601 - 613.479 Mark Grote

Absolutely. Yes, and maybe that's why I'm gun-shy about it, because I've seen Dick Geron, I think, won it in his first year. Matt Nagy won it in his first year. I might be missing somebody.

0

613.56 - 626.62 Unknown

Dick Geron, I think that was 11, right, for Dick Geron? So my list has, at least for AP NFL Coach of the Year, which is what I go by, 11 was Jim Harbaugh.

0

627.427 - 632.096 Mark Grote

2011? Yeah. With San Fran? Yes. Yes, okay.

632.116 - 639.51 Unknown

And then it was Bruce Arians, then it was Ron Rivera, then it was Bruce Arians, then it was Ron Rivera. Jason Garrett won it in 2016.

639.611 - 640.152 Mark Grote

Oh, see?

642.075 - 647.005 Unknown

So has the award itself, much like other awards... That's where it broke you down?

646.985 - 666.045 Mark Grote

That's what I'm trying to do here, because I understand, and I've done that before, too. If I had a vote, I probably would have voted for Matt Nagy because of the turnaround. But the point I'm trying to make is to give respect to the actual best coach. Do you guys disagree that Kyle Shanahan is the best coach of the bunch?

Chapter 3: What are the implications of Caleb Williams' performance?

786.43 - 801.19 Unknown

Then it's Matt Nagy. Then it's John Harbaugh. Then it's Kevin Stefanski in 2020 because the Browns went 11-5. Then it's Vrabel for Tennessee, 12-5. Then it's Brian Dable, 9-7-1 with the Giants.

0

801.21 - 802.151 Mark Grote

The new flashy thing.

0

802.171 - 803.313 Unknown

Because of the turnaround.

0

803.353 - 806.276 Mark Grote

New flashy guy, turnaround, everybody wants that.

0

806.336 - 822.032 Unknown

Then it was Kevin Stefanski again, who is now no longer, well, he's looking for a job. And then Kevin O'Connell last year. Oh, he's got a job. Yeah, oh, that's right. Atlanta, we're trying to figure out if Ian Cunningham is going. And then Kevin O'Connell is with Minnesota at 14-3.

822.012 - 824.915 Mark Grote

So like last year, right, that was clear, right?

825.196 - 825.616 Unknown

I thought so.

825.636 - 845.539 Mark Grote

Can we agree on like last year's Coach of the Year, you really didn't have a problem with that because Minnesota, with a quarterback who had never done anything, Sam Darnold, is doing things and they've got a 14-3 regular season record in what is arguably the most difficult division in all of football with three teams from that division making the playoffs.

845.519 - 866.937 Mark Grote

Yeah, I'd have to go back and look at the rest of the season and the other candidates in there. But on the surface, no, I don't want to argue with you about that. I'll tell you right now. Dan Campbell was second in voting. Andy Reid was third in voting. And they were the only ones, those three coaches, were the only ones to get more than one first place vote. Did the Chiefs go to the Super Bowl?

Chapter 4: How does the conversation shift towards the Bears' coaching staff?

1554.294 - 1571.271 Mark Grote

I mean, but again, it's... Yes, I give him a ton of credit for what he has done with the Bears secondary this year. But again, I am not going to lose my mind over losing assistant coaches. I'm just not.

0

1571.571 - 1593.754 Unknown

Well, here's the thing about Al Harris and when he leaves the place. Like, for example, his last four years in Dallas, they had the most interceptions in the NFL with a total at that time of 72 for the combined for four years. 23 here. And then he had Trevon Diggs, who led the NFL in picks. He was an All-Pro. Deron Bland, who led the NFL in picks and is an All-Pro.

0

1594.115 - 1613.361 Unknown

And now Kevin Byard, who led the NFL in picks and is an All-Pro. So there were multiple issues in Dallas, as we know defensively, involving a guy we all know in Matt Eberflus. However, Al Harris is a coach of consequence when it comes to how his team performs.

0

1613.782 - 1614.443 Mark Grote

Absolutely.

0

1614.463 - 1616.085 Unknown

And he might go to Green Bay.

1616.065 - 1638.626 Mark Grote

Now that's a problem. That's a different topic. But Al Harris, the possibility of him leaving is not exactly leading the show. You know what I mean? That's great information. Al Harris had a huge effect on the Bears this year, and that's what happens. Coaches get promoted, they go to other jobs, and then you have to fill those spots.

1638.906 - 1645.752 Mark Grote

So that's a valuable coach, but I just can't get that worked up about losing assistants.

1645.85 - 1648.855 Unknown

We have a caller on the line from Washington.

1649.035 - 1649.155 Mark Grote

Uh-oh.

Chapter 5: Which player is considered the frontrunner for NFL MVP?

5408.125 - 5411.61 Mark Grote

Which player do you think will win NFL MVP?

0

5411.59 - 5421.632 Unknown

I mean, I don't know why this is a discussion. I guess because it has to be because that's our job to discuss sports. But it's Matt Stafford. What are we doing?

0

Chapter 6: What are the arguments for and against Matthew Stafford as MVP?

5422.093 - 5443.116 Unknown

If this is a quarterback award and Christian McCaffrey, who unfortunately has also had his share of injury issues because that happens in life. It's Matt Stafford. He's 37, and the season that he's put together and the wins that he has been a part of, you know, the Rams have a... I know that their record wasn't perfect, but when you consider that...

0

5443.18 - 5461.663 Unknown

His lieutenants on the offense in Devontae Adams and Puka Nakua, for example, were also two of the best receivers in the league by numbers of yards and touchdowns. I don't know how it's not Matt Stafford. And the only reason I think it would be Drake May is because of East Coast bias.

0

5461.944 - 5471.736 Unknown

And I know that sounds silly, but that does matter because there is a lot of discussion on the national networks about Drake May and Mike Vrabel and how Vrabel might get coach of the year and

0

5471.716 - 5499.31 Mark Grote

the jump that may has made but to do this at his age this consistently into that volume it's matt stafford old coat drive himself you make it sound so simple and it should be simple because matthew stafford was voted first team all pro and yet i don't have to go far When going back in the annals of history to remember a guy winning MVP but not being first team All-Pro.

0

5499.39 - 5500.892 Unknown

Is this like when you smell the butt coming?

5501.253 - 5513.889 Mark Grote

Well, something like that. You know who first team All-Pro was last year in the quarterback conversation? It was Lamar Jackson. Do you know who the MVP was last season?

5514.109 - 5514.65 Unknown

Josh Allen.

5514.89 - 5530.478 Mark Grote

It was Josh Allen. Those two things still don't make sense to me at all. But in the spirit of the Mark Grody, what kind of career have you had? Maybe you need a Lifetime Achievement Award thing. In the career? Yeah, for the career.

5530.498 - 5531.619 Unknown

I love Rome for that.

Chapter 7: How does Caleb Williams' performance impact his future with the Bears?

5593.76 - 5619.409 Mark Grote

Is that good? Unbelievable. So I think it's Matthew Stafford. I will give some honorable mentions, though, to things that were outstanding about the other guys. Drake May, and this is what we want for Caleb, 72% completion percentage. Woo! Pretty good. Trevor Lawrence got himself over 4,000 yards. He was the only other of the candidates that was over 4,000 yards this season.

0

5619.609 - 5642.719 Mark Grote

Josh Allen had a nearly 70% completion. He was 69.3. So I just wanted to make sure I mentioned some of the outstanding things that some of these other quarterbacks did. But I will not go off the Matthew Stafford. So I think we're all in agreement on this one. Number three. This is Five On It on 670. The score with Laila Rahimi, Marshall Harris, and Mark Grody.

0

5642.739 - 5655.794 Mark Grote

We've got more Bears talk coming up when Jarrett Payton joins the program at 1225. This week, Patriots owner Robert Kraft revealed the NFL's upcoming priorities during an interview with 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston.

0

5656.154 - 5686.555 Leila Rahimi

I want to tell you guys, though, we're going to push like the Dickens now to make international more important with us. Every team... We'll go to 18-2 and eliminate one of the preseason games. And every team every year will play one game overseas. And part of the reason is so we can continue to grow the cap and keep our labor happy.

0

5687.024 - 5696.341 Mark Grote

That's Patriots owner Robert Kraft on 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston. What are your thoughts on the idea of this version of an 18-game NFL season?

5696.361 - 5705.558 Unknown

Why does he say our labor happy? Like it's some sort of like unit out of the Upton Sinclair's The Jungle. What was that?

5705.638 - 5707.301 Mark Grote

Why did he say push like the Dickens?

Chapter 8: What are the potential implications of the Bears' coaching staff changes?

5707.321 - 5708.323 Mark Grote

That was what got me.

0

5708.303 - 5710.127 Unknown

Yeah, all of that was very compelling.

0

5710.147 - 5713.475 Mark Grote

Because he's 84 years old.

0

5713.495 - 5732.149 Unknown

Did he also say in Switzerland that it wasn't for him, if it wasn't for us, that they'd be speaking German, except they do speak German? Did that also happen? Because it kind of veered in that direction. Wrong old guy. Uh, they've wanted this forever. They've wanted an 18 game season forever. Like think of the Sandlot forever.

0

5732.43 - 5752.216 Unknown

It was, it was only a matter of time and they can use all these excuses and dangle all these carrots and try to make it make sense. Like, well, we can't pay you unless we have this 18th game. Oh yeah. Okay, cool. Except we've all seen the TV contracts. We've all seen them. So like, yeah, you can blame your employees because you guys wanted an 18-game season since time began.

5752.276 - 5770.941 Unknown

It's going to happen because they want it to and they're the owners. It's just a matter of how. So I think Marshall said this the last time we talked about this in the offseason last year. Two bye weeks is the best way to get it done. But we talked about it with Mike Florio this morning. That's not necessarily going to be the case. It's just a matter of how.

5772.303 - 5777.898 Mark Grote

You talk about keeping your labor happy. a.k.a. your assets, a.k.a. your fantasy players.

5777.978 - 5778.419 Unknown

Players?

5778.439 - 5784.368 Mark Grote

The guys on the field? How do you want to say it? He sounded like a fantasy owner right there. Hard labor. Happy.
