Chapter 1: What insights are shared about the Cubs' recent performance?
yeah that was an informative discussion yesterday we found out a lot of things more than we bargained for Stares at the camera with a wink in silence. This is Rahimi Harrison-Grody on 104.3 The Score on this Thursday. It is a full show today. Mark Grody, Marshall Harris, Layla Rahimi in the house. We are happy to join you. And we're not going to talk about the Bears stadium today.
You already heard it. Our open, thanks to Tyler Biederbaugh. If you want to check it out, it's on our YouTube channel. You can see the interview in its entirety. And that was the big part of it. Understanding that April was the last time that... He and Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Bears spoke. And that, unfortunately, he left Bears Packers early because of the traffic. Layla. We got caught up.
Layla. Batman himself could not drag that information out of me. And he gave it to us unsolicited. On a scale of 1 to 100 on your superhero and villain characters, where does that rate when it comes to coercion? Well, Batman's just the best at getting information out of people. He's a detective. He'll kick your ass.
Yes.
So 100, it sounds like. He'll put hands on you. It was eye-opening is what it was, Layla. It was indeed eye-opening.
Let me say this. I have to say this.
I have to say this. I on my hour and 22 minute drive home from the North Shore and Bears headquarters working through Bears traffic.

Chapter 2: Why is the mayor's early departure from the Bears-Packers game significant?
I got to listen to the entire interview and it was out. You guys asked all the right questions. You had the exact right tone. The mayor did what politicians do, and that is to filibuster and give speeches to every single question. But I am a critical listener of what I consume. And you guys were great. And I think our audience was rewarded. So thank you guys for holding his feet to the fire.
I don't know if there is a great conclusion to come from it all. Oh, yeah, there is. I think it's the fact that more information is better. And once again, the bears have three options. They have the no property tax on the lakefront option. They have the more publicly funded option in Indiana. And then they have the option that they bought in Arlington Heights. So, yeah, it was good.
The mayor coming on and helping fill in the gaps for us, which he did. We didn't get all the answers, you know, we wanted. But no, I feel like it was good that we had him on. Oh, no, 100%. It was great that you guys had him on. He just was too long-winded with some of the answers, but the questions were terrific. Well, thank you, Gross, and I didn't mean to interrupt like that.
But I do think, because you know who this points the finger to now. You know who's the only one who hasn't talked in this. The Gov or the Bears? No, the Bears. Gov's talked. Yeah, yeah. I'm at toss. Oh, yeah. Mike Braun has spoken publicly in Indiana. J.B. Pritzker. No, everybody's spoken except the Bears. Right.
Well, they made their statement, I guess, but they certainly have not done anything beyond that. Well, who doesn't get a late night fax every now and then from the Bears? Yeah. In the meantime, we watched the Cubs yet again. Do you remember that time I said, oh, yeah, they should take two of three from the A's? Yeah, well, at least they still have the chance.
And then after losing game one, I was like, well, now you have to do the right thing. be able to take game two, which was on Wednesday. And they did not. This game looked like it was in hand. Cubs enjoyed a decent lead, which was nice. You know, at one point they were up four to one in this ball game in the fourth inning. Colin Ray looked like he was working. And then yada, yada, yada.
Final in 10. Cubs lose to the A's five to four. Blech. This one was worse than the previous loss that they suffered, the 2-1, in my opinion, because, again, at least you had your offense out here scoring runs, and Colin Ray gave you, for what Colin Ray is supposed to be, a good outing, pitching into the sixth inning and only giving up a couple of runs.
And to see it all just evaporate and knowing that the Cubs had a chance –
several chances to win the game but couldn't get it done against the a's bullpen it takes us back to where we started even after the two to one loss they can't hit in the clutch in the way that they need to to beat other teams that are in the middle they are squarely letting you know we are not a good baseball team we are an average baseball team that can get hot from time to time that's what they've been all season long up and down and never able i mean they were

Chapter 3: What are the Cubs' options for improving their performance?
We understand these things. It's a numbers game. But Theobar just didn't look like he had command. And after that first home run that looked like it was shot to the bloody moon goes out of the ballpark.
i it was it was hard to watch the rest i mean at that point like take him out as soon as you can because this wasn't going well for him he's been struggling and i know he's settled down a little bit but the propensity for him to have that kind of night this is a game of consequence and you had to use one two three four five six seven seven relievers after colin ray for the a series
But that's what you have when you have a pitcher that started the year as a swingman and has been forced into rotation. Now, good news is, well. He threw 69 pitches. Yeah, no, no. I get it. But I understood why Craig. I didn't have a problem with Craig Council taking him out. I think you just have to have better relief effort for the guys who come in.
I mean, Kyle Ray could have stayed in and given up what was given up is the bottom line. But you would think, hey, we maximized this guy five and a third. Because remember, Hobie Milner was up in the fifth inning. And if he had given up a hit there, he was going to not even make it through five innings. Yeah, and I understand you don't want to have Hobie Mildner warm up and then not use him.
But I just, you know, they keep saying that pitching is the concern. And yeah, I understand that. But if we're doing triage right now, The offense gets timely hits.
It's just, it seems like if one thing is working, another thing doesn't, you know, there's no, there's no, you can't trust anybody enough to be able to say, can I get the expected performance out of you that I need in order to help win a ball game? Like the offense doesn't perform enough two days ago in a two to one game where you really had a chance to win.
You waste a start from Jamison Tyone that way. Then the next day you get a good lead.
decently enough early to where you think you can hold it down Colin Ray to me was the biggest question mark at that point and he was doing more than enough and then the bullpen gives it up like who's next you know at what point are you going to find another way to lose right now especially at home where you've you've lost eight straight and it felt like Having that 4-2 lead.
You shouldn't lose the game where Michael Bush has a 12 pitch at bat and what ends up being a triple because the right fielder for, I was going to say Oakland, the A's. Say Oakland. I'm so tired of this crap.

Chapter 4: How does the discussion shift to the White Sox's recent success?
Oh, go ahead. So did you see the snafu in Boston where the third base coach runs into the field of play trying to wave a runner home? Oh, yeah, it was pretty bad.
That's embarrassing.
Did he get knocked over? It was interim third base coach Chad Epperson goes into the field of play pretty far, I'd say. It's probably like five feet in inside the third baseline. It was really bad. Epperson. I saw that yesterday and I was like, I can't say much about third base coaching right now. The Red Sox in every way are a cautionary tale.
For the record, I think Quinton Berry made the right choice to not send Michael Bush on that particular play. I think he's out by a step right there. You disagree? I don't love the aggressive send out of Quinton Berry anymore. I mean, maybe they need the aggressive send right now. Maybe you take every opportunity to score runs now because they suck with runners in scoring position.
If there's a man on third, given that they've even had outs lately on third PCA. How about a squeeze play? Let's go Don Zimmer ball. In theory, I agree with you. Double steal. Except for here's the problem. Where did Michael Bush bat in the lineup last night? I don't know if you noticed, but he was behind Dansby Swanson.
That's right. They moved up old Swanee.
I'll never understand that particular decision. I don't even care. I mean, just keep I don't care if it doesn't make sense. And I guess it doesn't. And Swanson is not. Go ahead. No, no, I'm just saying because Bush, he does all that, gets the at-bat. My issue is this. It's not like he hit that ball past the center fielder or the left fielder. It's the right fielder.
You, as a batter, out of the box, should be seeing as soon as it gets by, like, I can get an inside-the-park home run here. And you've got to be going for it. I didn't see the replay of showing him rounding the... Tell me he wasn't running full speed all the way around. Also, I get both sides of the coin because Quentin Barry's like, there's only one out.
If I stop him at third, surely we can get a run home man on third with less than two outs. A's have some good outfielders, though. I respect the arms in the outfield on third. But they both made blunders last night. Soderstrom badly misjudged the ball in left field. And then the right fielder, I guess that play, the Bush play, I guess that's kind of a suicide play. It's a do or die type.

Chapter 5: What nostalgia influences the discussion about the 90s Bulls?
So there might be some 90s Bulls nostalgia playing with my brain right now, too.
Five on it.
Number four.
A picture from Brown's OTAs has surfaced where newly edge rusher Jared Verse has made it, but he's wearing number eight.
Chapter 6: What are the implications of Jared Verse wearing number eight?
And there already is a number eight, Dylan Gabriel, who is also wearing number eight on the field. So on a scale of one to ten on the newly created disrespect meter. A lot of scales today, by the way.
A lot of math. It's a scale Thursday today. Yeah, I guess so.
scale thursday sounds great happy thursday scales how disrespectful is it that jared verse just started wearing number eight after the browns acquired him even though that number eight already belongs to quarterback dylan gabriel eight it's an eight and i i laugh at it because jared verse disrespects quarterbacks for a living but he's like i don't care about you it's very on brand
It's a 10 for me. Like, don't you have to at least have a discussion with the guy who's got the number that you want? Also, don't you pay the guy? That's part of the discussion. Like, hey, I want that number. All right, man, it's going to cost you such and such. He just said, oh, we got OTAs. I'll be out there. Give me a number eight.
What's he going to do about that?
What is Dylan Gabriel, second year quarterback who couldn't beat out Shador Sanders and is now the third string quarterback going to do about that? I think Jared. I mean, we all do. We all think he's a badass, right? So he's exempt to get them one. One. That's not disrespectful at all.
He deserves it.
He's Jared verse with a backup corner.

Chapter 7: How does the conversation shift to Chicago pizza preferences?
Dylan Gabriel shouldn't get to know. Wow. Yanked his chain. My love is real. Number five. Wrapping up five on it. Last week on New Heights Podcast, Caleb Williams states his favorite spot to eat in Chicago for pizza is Zarrillo. Is QB1 correct in his assessment of Chicago pizza? Hold on, Grant. Yeah. It's Zarrella. Zarrella, sorry. Actually, it's Zapillo. Yeah, yeah. It's Zapillo.
i'm sorry great you've done a fantastic job and in your sense of humor is top notch but we we had to call point of order zarella zarella there it is okay this is how it starts in the city uh zarella is fantastic for like a higher end restaurant experience pizza so it is up there for me pizza was fab the salad was really good i'm sorry guys you know i love a good pizza with a salad i just i like the balance of it all it's not
compliment it's not really calorie thing it's just i like to have salad with my pizza it's fun crispy um but but my my personal number one still a really owes in my heart it's the sauce for me and i love pizza all very equally like i go to a lot of different places i don't discriminate i love lumel nadis like i go to giordano's i go everywhere especially with friends in town
Are you just going to name every place now, Layla?
Pretty much, yeah.
Is that what you're going to do right now? They're all good, but Aurelio's is probably the one that I'm partial to. Even Rinaldi's is fab. Yeah, I don't know. I mean, they're all great, but yeah. Zarella's is excellent. I've been there for a birthday dinner, and they have artisan or tavern-style pizza. I went with the artisan. It's a little thinner because, you know, carbs. Delicious.
Yeah, the carbs are why I'm there, actually.

Chapter 8: What insights does Clay Harbor provide about rookie performances?
I got no problem with Caleb Williams. I like that he's out here standing on business letting you know in a place where people are very particular about their pizza selections and they'll judge yours. I'm proud of Caleb Williams for saying what he said. Yeah. Absolutely. No, I have zero problem with that whatsoever there. I had a bad one and done date there. We both ordered spaghetti.
Didn't even get the pizza. That's terrible. That is bad. We got to go back to Zarella. That's a bad opening. Maybe we do. I need to make that place better again. In the spirit of closing portals, also 847 agrees, you need to close the portal and declare the Brewers the winner of the division on June 18th. Coming soon.
Okay, in the spirit of closing portals, then we should close the bad Zarella portal and go back. I am so into that idea because it is. It seems like a delightful place where I just, not their fault, I had a bad experience. I'm going through an Art of Pizza phase right now. I just go through phases.
Hold up, hold up.
Art of Pizza is literally 20 steps from where you live. Don't call me that.
right about that pretty convenient phase if you ask me it's kind of like i do love ronali's but we get it here and it's such a treat so i can't say i'm going through ronali's face because i just love it whenever it's here you're right it's in my building if it's free it's me you already know how i roll have you guys did you guys try the dill pickle ronali's pizza when it was here by the way oh i did actually and i were obsessed shockingly likable yes oh my god grant did you get it
Which one was it? The dill pickle Rinaldi's pizza. I don't think I did. No, that one was really good. We got to get Grant some dill pickle Rinaldi's pizza. I guess so. Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. You have so much to learn, Grant, leader. Thank you. So much. I hope to learn from you, Marco. Let us take you. I will take you to places. All right, all right, all right.
See, Grant's sense of humor is he's quick with it. Is Baby T not under your wing anymore? Oh, no, he is. I'm just forming a whole gang. That's right. I'm starting a gang. Yeah, Grant, unfortunately, he's going to mentor you whether or not you want to be. I don't know why you always say that about Buterbaugh.
You're like Walter Matthau to the Bad News Bears right now, the way you're rounding up the youngins. Why would you think Buterbaugh wouldn't want to be mentored by me? I mean, he's a Bears meatball. Who's more Bears than me? Yeah, you're mentoring Ferengul whether or not he likes it. Did I say beauter ball? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. We're positionally deep at Tyler. You think he doesn't like it, though.
