Rahimi Harrison-Grody, 10-2 on 104.3 The Score.
A-Rob is the co-host of the Press Release Podcast. We enjoy having him on. Thanks for coming on today, Alan.
I appreciate it. Thanks for having me.
I think I want to start with that, just your funny aside about Ben Johnson. That is not the first time I have heard a wide receiver use the term evil when it comes to Ben Johnson. I feel like you say it with love, but at the same time, there's a bit of fear to it.
Scary, scary, man.
Definitely. You know what his expectation is, and it's very high.
Ben Johnson is a coach who's going to hold you accountable to the standard in which you should hold yourself, and that bar doesn't change or waver at any point in time. Get comfortable being uncomfortable. His competitive edge for you was the top line on his scouting report.
How do you kind of describe what you experienced in the time that you had there just watching that sort of competitive edge be something that could create, I guess, a vibe?

Chapter 2: What insights are shared about Ben Johnson's coaching style?
Pick A or B with impressive Cubs number that you would like me to say first.
Are you giving me the options, the A and B options? Okay, I'll say B. B. This is blind. I'm blind picking, guys.
I have no idea what the two options are. The Cubs have won 11 straight at Wrigley Field. Okay. A, they have won 15 of their last 18 games. This isn't just the 10-game win streak. You are seeing a team take control in a way that isn't just, I feel like, fun to watch. That's, I think, the baseline, but a sweep over the Diamondbacks.
They withstand the Ildemar Vargas hit streak that he had to begin the season and the one that dated back to the last couple games of the year before. And they take advantage of the elements at Wrigley Field. And we see them come away with a sweep. And now we're seeing a real body of work out of this team get put together.
The best thing about the way the Cubs have been playing is when they suffered their three-game losing streak after winning 10 in a row, it was the first time all season that they had lost three games.
Sad piano. Pour one out for the three-game losing streak.
No, but there's going to be ups and downs. It's just how can you minimize the downs and maximize your ups. To bounce back from that three-game losing streak and to win five in a row and to get yet another sweep at home as they've now won as many games in a row as they have at Wrigley Field since 2008, when they won 14 in a row.
And to understand what that's looking like when it comes to the variety of people who are contributing to understanding that seven different pitchers on this team now have recorded a save. And the team leader in saves is not the recently activated Daniel Palencia. It's actually Caleb Thielbar who has two.
Old Caleb Theobar.

Chapter 3: How do the Cubs' recent performances reflect their potential?
And that's what makes this also, I think, so encouraging on this Monday. Marshall is just the combination of how they were able to win all those games and showed just as reliable as we had seen him be this season. Answers yet again and is able to throw a scoreless outing and help hold the Diamondbacks to only four hits as a team throughout that game.
And on the show to tip, seven starts now. In five of the seven starts, he's given up one run or fewer. I mean, come on. Exactly. So... They're doing things that I don't know that I expect them to win. I expect the offense to be a little bit better and a little more consistent with Bregman instead of Tucker, but maybe not as good as Nico Horner has been.
You already know how I feel about Moises Ballesteros. I expected him to do this when he was in the lineup, but guess what, Layla? Now he's an everyday player.
I was not as confident as you were. I just wasn't. I wanted to see what he could do. He had a good September, but I wasn't going to rely on him as much as other players like a Nico, for example.
But when people start asking questions, well, why are they so much better than maybe people even expected them to be? I think one of the names that we have come to take for granted, which is ridiculous, by the way, come to take for granted and why they've been so good, specifically offensively, right, is a guy who before he was on the Cubs, never had a season in which he hit over .245.
And that would be Carson Kelly. He had two RBI in the game yesterday. This dude is quietly, and I say quietly because we're talking about all these other players, he's quietly out here catching, handling a staff, and handling a bunch of relievers who are being thrust into more high leverage situations than they probably thought they would be in for this Cubs team.
But he's batting .325 with a .417 on base. He's slugging .446. That's an .862 OPS out of your catcher's spot. And he's kind of standing the test of time. Remember, the guy that he partnered up with last year after Miguel Amaya got hurt has already been on the White Sox, been DFA'd by the White Sox, Reese McGuire.
But he's out here just quietly getting the job done, both behind the plate and at the plate. So I just want to give a shout out to Carson Kelly and his contributions here early in the season. Because Moises Ballesteros and Nico Horner and... Some of these other guys have been doing well, but Carson Kelly's been as consistent an offensive provider as anyone in this lineup.
Well, the Cubs were one of the top offensively producing teams out of the catcher position in baseball last year. Yes. And so for that trend to continue in this way... Carson Kelly, man, this is a renaissance. He's in a good spot with this team. You see what he's doing.

Coming up next, Jed Hoyer did speak on Friday. It was a bit pleasantly unexpected for us here on Rahimi Harrison Brody. So we will bring you some of what he has to say. He answers a question a lot of you have had about the Cubs pitching and the injuries that also connect. So we will discuss that and more next.
Rahimi Harrison-Grote. Bears tight end Cole Komet. Cole, welcome to the party, pal. Well, thanks for having me. I heard it was a big day, so naturally I dropped everything I had going on today. You've complained a lot through the years about not being able to hear the score on the 670 AM dial when you're inevitably cruising around downtown.
And now that we have an FM signal, Cole, you can now hear the score all day, all the time, all you want.
You can hear all the Bears hot takes you want. Well, that's perfect. I'll make sure I blast that in the locker room. Beautiful blast! Rahimi Harrison-Grody.
Midday's Tindal 2 on 104.3 The Score.
I can smell the cream on your neck, okay? It's there to loosen it up, right? But how is it? You know, was it hard playing out there today? You missed two days with that stiff neck. Yeah, I mean, I don't like missing time, but, you know, throw your body around and do random things all the time and things show up, but fortunate to be back on the field. I'm feeling good.
You know, as one does. Smelling cream on people's necks.

Chapter 5: What injury did Kobe Bryant discuss regarding his Achilles?
Listen to what Kobe Bryant had to say. This is also per Gary Vitti. When he injured his Achilles, it's, I can't.
I said, it sounds like it's an Achilles tendon. He goes, I reached back there and tried to pull it down. It doesn't work that way.
Chapter 6: How did the Paul Pierce incident impact Kobe's memory?
Then he said to me, he goes, I tried to walk on my heel to see if I could run on my heel and finish the game. We were trying to get in the playoffs. So he's trying to run on his heel. That's when he says to me, well, can we just go back in the locker room? You tape it up and I could finish the game.
wanted to finish the game i said it doesn't work like that either you were fouled as soon as you shoot the second free throw we're gonna foul well that's when we'll get you out of the game and so he shoots the two free throws and so now we got to go all the way back to the locker room so i say to him i can get you a chair and he looks down at me and he says paul pierce
In case you didn't know what the bleeped out word was, it was F Paul Pierce, but there were three other letters after the F. That's hilarious. I'm sorry, but in his moment of weakness, he was like, you know what? F Paul Pierce.
Wait, why am I included in this? Why am I in here?
Now, why am I in it?

Chapter 7: What notable performance did Shota Imanaga achieve in the recent game?
Well, it's funny because when I saw this clip, I had to go back and like, how far apart were those incidents? Of course, you know, an insane competitive person, you know, just like Kobe Bryant was, would never forget anything. But it was 2008 when the Paul Pierce wheelchair incident occurred, when he had to be taken out in a wheelchair.
And it was 2013 when Kobe Bryant sustained the Achilles injury.
the fact that that image lasted with everybody so long to where he's hurt his Achilles and he's like blank Paul Pierce years later five years later he didn't let any of it go laughing Let me pull my Achilles down to reattach. Sir, no. That is not how the body works.
Chapter 8: What are the implications of the Cubs' recent success?
I'm truly convinced that there's a massive subset of people at about his age who thought that true strength was just how much you were willing to tolerate in life.
We just talked about Masai Ujiri. You remember Clay when he tore his ACL? He tried to stay in the game. They wouldn't let him.
Yes, I do remember that. And then Lindsey Vonn's like, let me defy science. She did for a little while. She did, but that was gruesome. Like, it doesn't end well. And we all watch because we want to know, is this the time where we finally get one back on the ACL? As a society, we need to start taking over. I'm not necessarily sure it works that way. Two ligaments I want revenge on, ACLs, UCLs.
I'd say we're taking them back, but they're already in our bodies.
I know who doesn't agree with you. dio he said get me my achilles let's get the revenge on the achilles now i'm motivated well he's had to deal with it twice do we know if it got revenge on him i owe the dang bowl we don't know because we don't know which achilles it was compared the first time that is kobe bryant man you were missed but i don't necessarily know that anybody needed that
I don't even know what to say. That's beast mode times infinity, mamba mentality times 900 million. Five On It is next. This hour is brought to you by Vasectomy Clinics of Chicago.
It's time for Five On It. Rahimi Harrison-Rowdy. Bring you five topics on their minds today.
On 104.3 The Score. Number one. Who is the MVP of the Cubs series sweep of the Diamondbacks?
You know what? Blanket. Show to Imanaga. And not like the thing that keeps you warm that Matas Bouzelis wore as a cape whenever he saw the game. Did you notice that?
