So what can you tell us about what Ben Johnson spoke today? I watched the live stream. I feel like there was a lot of discussion about we heard from offensive lineman today at Hollis Hall. What were your biggest takeaways from this morning?

Herb Howard 1:58

Yeah, definitely some interesting things that came out of the press room today. Obviously, we started off the morning hearing from Coach Johnson. He said some interesting things specifically about Caleb Williams and his development in terms of his comfort in the system, his leadership, his communication with the rest of the team. He said he's really become an extension of the coaching staff out on the field.

Caleb talked about the next evolution for him as a leader is becoming an extension of you and the coaching staff out on the field. Did you sense kind of that push from him internally to be that guy out there?

Ben Johnson 2:27

Yeah, I see it. I feel it from our entire unit right now. We talked the other night just about when we go into these walkthroughs in the afternoon, we're making corrections from the practice. earlier in the day. And rather than the coaches calling it back and let's repeat and get the perfect play that it's player led now. And he's certainly leading that charge. He's, he knows when it's not good enough, he's huddling us back up and let's get it right. Um, felt that at practice yesterday too, you know, you could, You guys might have noticed it. We broke the huddle. Things weren't quite right, and he's regrouping us. And so I think that's a huge step in the right direction. I know those guys really value what he has to say.

They're getting extra reps when the horn's done for the day and continuing to work on hooking up in the passing game with all the pass catchers, and that's only going to pay dividends down the road.

Herb, I think one of the things when I hear that, it makes me think and remember that this is now his team. Those are his wide receivers. Those are his offensive linemen. Whereas his first year, I don't think he felt that ownership, that bond necessarily. We know there was a lot of things that came undone. in his Shane Waldron, Matt Eberflus rookie year. But that's just a guy, I think, and you could see it and you could hear it, being more comfortable with his coworkers, which is important for all of us.

Yeah, I mean, as a quarterback, you always want to kind of present yourself as being that comfortable and that leader and able to communicate and get everybody lined up.
