Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
you
This is Rahimi Harrison-Grody, and we are in a Football Friday formation of sorts, rookie minicamp underway at Hollis Hall.
Chapter 2: What insights did Kevin Fishbane share about the Bears rookie minicamp?
So that is why we wanted to have Kevin Fishbane on. Follow Kevin on X at KFishbane. He is on Instagram at KevinFishbane. He's the senior writer at The Athletic covering the Bears and hosts, breaking in with Kevin Fishbane, a sports media podcast. And he joins us on Twitch, twitch.tv slash thescorechicago. Fishy business, how are you today?
Layla, Football Friday, let's talk about this game on Sunday. What do you guys think? Bears, Packers, noon, Soldier Field?
You know what? The funny part about that is there's probably not going to be a whole hell of a lot of noon games for these Chicago Bears, Fishy.
Great point. Great point. Grody, we just found out schedule releases next Thursday, which is really a holiday in our books.
Didn't know that. Okay. You broke some news here.
Yeah, we find out stuff a little later here on this show. But thank you, Kevin.
Breaking news on the score sponsored by IDOT. Speeding in a work zone is a no win. Mind the signs. Avoid the fines. Yeah, that had been the big scuttlebutt around the league was when was the schedule going to be released? So now we know.
Thursday, 7 p.m., and each network is going to release a game or two in the lead-up. So I would imagine that the kickoff game will be announced before Thursday. So we'll find out in less than a week if the Bears are going to open the season in Seattle on Wednesday night.
I would like to see that. Rookie minicamp underway out there. Kevin Fishbane, Ben Johnson speaking. And I guess the guy that I'm going through a little 48-hour obsession over is Logan Jones. And the very specific question, Kevin, is does Logan Jones have a legitimate shot at being the opening day center for the Chicago Bears this year?

Chapter 3: How does Logan Jones fit into the Bears' plans for the upcoming season?
The group of undrafted rookies also does not include an edge rusher. I think they had one defensive tackle among the guys they signed after the draft. Now, again, I don't put a ton of stock into that because those guys have a major uphill climb to make the roster, but it does give you, again, a little bit of sense into this team's belief right now in what they have on that defensive line.
So when we come out for OTAs, we'll be out here at the end of May and which will be our first time seeing the full team together. That's going to be the top thing, right, is going to be how these defensive linemen look. Because I'm out there today watching Jordan Vandenberg, trying to see the athleticism that the Bears loved. But that's a sixth-round pick at defensive tackle.
But he's the only guy out there today, really, when you're looking at those defensive linemen for a position of need. So that's going to be something we'll obviously learn more about when the veterans, when we get to see the vets in action later in May.
So with all that said about Indiana, letting us know that amongst the undrafted rookies that they still have not brought in an edge. Do you think that they are poised to considering signing one of the big names that are still available out there, and would they even have the money to do something like that?
Mark, you know there's always money in the banana stand. They'll find a way if they need to. I think what fans need to remember, and I think sometimes we need to remind ourselves, I was reminding myself this the other day, a lot of these veterans, take Cameron Jordan, for example. You think Cameron Jordan wants to be in OTAs if he doesn't have to?
No. After 36 years of life, no.
Yeah. So, and I remember, like, back when Akeem Hicks was here, he kind of was very tongue-in-cheek with us about the spring practices. This is why you see a lot of these guys sign the days leading up to training camp.
An example that I thought of recently, it was two or three years ago, all the talk, all offseason, I can't believe the Bears haven't brought in more help on the interior of the offensive line. What do they do the day before training? Um, training camp opens, they trade for Dan Feeney and they signed Michael Scofield. Now those guys did not turn out to be pro bowlers for this team.
This is not like, but in the moment we were like, okay, this is what they were like. These are guys they've had their eye on. It's just, they're going to wait all the way till the final minutes before training camp. Cause again, it doesn't, I don't, I think these, these veterans don't need to be at OTAs and minicamp, the guys who've been in the league for a long time. So
