Good. I'm reading all the updates and accidentally said Dan because I saw the Dan Campbell update as well. I know he spoke yesterday. Training camps are underway. What storyline stands out to you the most right now? I know, for example, you've been doing a lot of work on the confusion surrounding the accident regarding Kyle Shanahan, the crash, that has led to a lot of reporting questions over in San Francisco.

Well... I think the whole thing, now that we've had several days to really understand it, think about it, process it, the 49ers created this mess by not simply issuing the statement that they issued on Saturday, the 25th of July, on the 14th or 15th of July when the accident happened or right after. Kyle Shanahan involved in an auto accident, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. We will provide further updates at the appropriate time. You need to get that out because when you successfully manage to keep it in the dark for 11 days, regardless of any questions it creates about media and journalism and coordinated rollout of the news with ESPN, people are gonna wonder what the hell is going on. And it's gonna create more questions later because they're going to find out eventually, and they're going to know what happened 11 days before it came to light.

And that part of it, I mean, this whole offseason has been full of exercises in bad PR, from the story of the offseason with Diana Rossini, Mike Vrabel, and the Patriots, and how that was mishandled by everyone involved. Last week, ESPN's PR-HR nightmare with its layoffs, and now this thing with the 49ers. It's just a failure, and it underscores how important it is to have good, functional, proactive PR who is involved and at the table for all big issues. So everyone is aware of how things are going to be perceived if a certain path is taken.

Mike, I think you're absolutely right. I can't believe these teams, organizations, individuals keep stubbing their proverbial toes when they have these unforced errors, right? Do you think this is just a sign of the times because there's so much information out there from a social media aspect and the way we process information? Or is this something else?

I just think, and I was just having this conversation with someone, I think that front facing public organizations, sports teams, sports leagues, media, I think that they don't fully appreciate the importance of good PR, of having a PR strategy that you affirmatively put into action at all times. And of considering the PR consequences of everything that you choose to do in working hand in hand on all major issues. It can't just be the equivalent of a firefighter that is activated whenever the crap hits the fan. You've got to have PR at the table, heavily involved, and then you can avoid these things that come off as basically someone just stepping on a rake, which is, I think, what happened in all the cases that I mentioned earlier.

It's just... wandering around, not thinking about how this is going to be perceived and understanding how the world now is and how things move so quickly. And you can't get to the point where your PR strategy is just left behind, because then there's a chance you're going to end up looking worse than you'd care to look.
