The edge rusher officially returning to the Saints on what is reported to be a one-year incentive-laden deal. Big deal around here to us because there still is that hope that maybe help is on the way for the Bears defense and edge rushers, which they did not draft. They have not signed anybody of note so far. So the question for me to you, Mike Florio, is what did you think of the Cam Jordan one-year deal? And are some of these other guys, like the Bosas and Jadavian Clowney and Von Miller, will they start to get closer to hooking up with teams?
And are you hearing the Bears being connected with anybody?
Yeah, I think once you get into the point of your career where you've got more than a decade in the NFL, if you're not going to get the kind of number that you're looking for, there's no reason to commit until after the offseason program has ended. There's no reason to rush into anything, and you just wait for the right offer at the right time, and you avoid the wear and tear of the off-season program. I mean, look, does it have value? Yes. You've been playing for 10 years plus. Does it really have value? I don't know. And with Cam Jordan, I always felt like he was going to go back to the Saints. He seems to be a guy who wants to be a one-helmet player and not go play for another team. And if you're the Bears, you've got to ask yourself,
How much does he really have left in the tank? How much of this deal is the Saints having some sentimentality for Cam Jordan? I don't have his numbers in front of me, but he hasn't been a dominant pass rusher in recent years. And I think if the Bears are looking to add veteran help, you want to have somebody that you think is going to have a little more punch. And I love Cam Jordan, but the point is, how much does he have left right now? How much better would he really make the Bears? If the Bears saw him as someone who would have made them definitely better, they would have offered more than whatever the Saints are paying.
Is there someone better out there with more punch, Mike? Who's got the best punch of the guys that are left out here as free agents that can help get to the quarterback?
Joey Bosa, if he's healthy, I think that makes the most sense. I'd still be... kicking around the edges of a possible Max Crosby trade. Look, I don't know that I'd give up two first-round draft picks for him at this point, and it may be something that happens during the season if the Raiders begin to fall apart, as they have pretty much every year since the last time they went to the Super Bowl to cap the 2002 season.
