I hope you had a lovely all-star break, Pat, and we're just so happy to have you on because it is going to be a special weekend at Wrigley with the celebration of the World Series championship as we... what, 10 years now? It's hard to believe it's been that long, honestly. I'm curious as to your overall thoughts on reflecting on the fact that it's been 10 years since the Cubs did what people have been waiting quite some time for them to do.

Pat Hughes 2:57

You're absolutely right, Marshall. It was so much fun. I would love to go back and do it again. It was something that no other Cubs broadcaster had ever had the pleasure of doing, and that is staying in The Chicago Cubs win the World Series. And you think about all the great announcers, Harry Carey and Jack Brickhouse, just to name a couple. But there have been so many others. Vince Lloyd and Ron Santo never got to be there to see a World Series. But I was very lucky to be there. I'm just glad that the words tumbled out of my mouth in the proper order. and that we covered it, I think, about the best that I possibly could have done. And I just think I'm really a very lucky person in so many ways, so many ways.

Pat, we've talked about observing the game, just watching and being on the emotional roller coaster that was game seven. We've heard the lovable reunion, the Cubs podcast with the 2016 champions talk about what it was like. How do you describe what was going through your mind when you're having to narrate one of the most emotional games anybody's ever watched?

Pat Hughes 4:10

Well, Layla, I think it was interesting because you could kind of see that moment coming for several months. Even in August and September, you knew the Cubs were a powerhouse. You knew they'd be in the playoffs. That was a given. But they were so good all year. You know that this might be the year. And sure enough, it was. And then you went through the progression of the playoffs and beating the Giants in a very challenging four-game series and then beating the Dodgers.
