Rahimi, Harris & Grote Show

Transition: Canada looked so sad getting its silver medals

23 Feb 2026

Transcription

Chapter 1: Why are airports compared to speakerphones?

0.031 - 4.156 Marshall Harris

Why airports? I have to know.

0

4.216 - 23.817 Leila Rahimi

They're kind of one in the same. Because when you think about speaker phones, and you think about people that just, there's no rules in airports. So, I just flew back from the Legacy Bowl, like you mentioned. It was 10 a.m. in the morning in New Orleans Airport. There were three young ladies sitting there eating a big plate of nachos.

0

24.138 - 27.321 Leila Rahimi

Like, how do you even have the taste for that at 10 in the morning?

0

27.301 - 34.529 Marshall Harris

He wasn't wrong. Emery Hunt has a lot of good thoughts. So he said that these are inventions that shouldn't have happened.

0

Chapter 2: What interesting stories are shared about traveling?

34.749 - 51.267 Marshall Harris

Speakerphone, airports, and mock drafts. And now, I'm sorry I did not realize that despite seeing Ryan McGuffey and thinking to myself, that looks like Ryan McGuffey, that I thought you were going to be on our show. Happy to see Ryan McGuffey. Happy to see Max Piegel back from Arizona.

0

51.247 - 56.753 Mark Grote

Where's Lawrence? Hey, Griff. Hey, Griff. I just shared my coach story.

0

56.853 - 60.817 Ryan McGuffey

You did. Griff? Brian McGuffey said Dave Wanstead calls him Griff.

0

61.838 - 68.004 Mark Grote

Why is he calling you Griff? What's this ball of booze on your desk? Wait, coach, you're talking to me? Yeah, he is.

0

68.565 - 73.27 Unknown

So instead of Guff, it's Griff? Is that the... I need the why. I need the why here.

73.41 - 79.316 Mark Grote

I think he just thought it was Griff. Oh, he just... McGruffy. Rob McGriffin.

79.336 - 82.159 Marshall Harris

Are you related to Fred? I do like baseball.

82.179 - 86.164 Mark Grote

Yeah, that's true. That's about where it stops. Me and Griffey.

86.504 - 107.052 Ryan McGuffey

I see where you're coming from. To answer your question, Tyler Budibaw, it's a good question. Lawrence is off for the day. I am here back from Arizona. Was on a plane this morning at 6.05, as a matter of fact, out of Phoenix. And here we are. Now I feel good, man. I am nothing but enthused from that whole experience. You know how that goes.

Chapter 3: How does Ryan McGuffey's return impact the show?

111.058 - 117.349 Ryan McGuffey

You might know him formerly of White Sox Talk, but now it's what? It's the White Sox Recap Podcast. Thank you very much.

0

117.329 - 118.35 Marshall Harris

See what you did there.

0

118.47 - 120.873 Ryan McGuffey

You and Brian Anderson. Brian Anderson.

0

120.913 - 121.634 Mark Grote

Hey, Brian Anderson, yeah.

0

121.654 - 138.814 Ryan McGuffey

But Guff and I have worked together many a time here, has hosted inside the clubhouse many, many a time, was our regular co-host last year. But Guff is a great sports mind and a Chicago media stalwart, and I'm looking forward to the next four hours. Is that all it is? Four hours? That's all we got.

138.794 - 144.141 Unknown

Brian Anderson, the former White Sox outfielder. Not the Brewers broadcaster slash TNT. No.

144.802 - 145.763 Mark Grote

Yes, Brian Anderson.

145.924 - 153.774 Matt Spiegel

Do you need more than four hours of a runway to get your thoughts off? I get it. It's a Monday. There's a lot that happened over the weekend.

153.794 - 159.402 Mark Grote

There's a lot going on. No, no. I was saying that's all. There was a lot of sarcasm in there. That's all.

Chapter 4: What flavors of pistachios are discussed and why?

498.369 - 501.936 Mark Grote

You're right, Spiegel. A boomer. Yeah, yeah.

0

501.956 - 502.217 Unknown

Yes.

0

502.197 - 505.562 Ryan McGuffey

You're the big guy with the jacket and no drinks. Oh, he works here.

0

505.943 - 512.053 Unknown

At first I thought, oh, I'm just a friendly looking guy. So she wanted to know because you're the old guy who might know where the bathroom is.

0

512.373 - 513.275 Ryan McGuffey

Oh, that's amazing.

513.976 - 533.963 Marshall Harris

I had a guy one time like try to talk to me while we were all waiting in line at the airport to board the plane. Emory Hunt's right about the airports, you know. And then as I'm putting my suitcase in the overhead bin, he's like, wow, good job. And I just stared. I stopped the entire boarding process for a good second and just looked at it.

533.983 - 536.847 Matt Spiegel

Why? He's just congratulating you on putting your bag on top.

536.867 - 539.129 Marshall Harris

Doing the thing that literally everybody else had just done.

540.091 - 544.436 Matt Spiegel

Fair. Back to what Mark just said about his concert experience.

Chapter 5: What personal experiences relate to food and enjoyment?

756.045 - 768.825 Mark Grote

Yeah, I think. Dave Christian's in the stands. They're feeling the losses. They're tears of joy. Or they're tears and beers because Ruzioni's being carried, paraded through the bars of Milan, which is awesome.

0

768.845 - 777.038 Ryan McGuffey

What a crazy, beautiful thing to get to see. If anybody hasn't watched the Netflix documentary, the Boys of 80.

0

777.058 - 778.14 Mark Grote

Boys of 80, yeah.

0

778.12 - 796.23 Ryan McGuffey

Because it's all those guys just kind of hanging around, and they're in a rink. They're in the rink at Lake Placid, which is tiny, and it just feels insane. And they're watching footage of their tryouts, and they're watching footage of their games and just talking about it. It's amazing. So I'm glad you guys had him. I thought he was great.

0

796.21 - 809.369 Unknown

On the other side of it, have you ever seen a more sad bunch of athletes getting silver medals put around their necks? And I'm not saying that I took any sort of excitement in that, but I was like, man.

809.389 - 810.41 Mark Grote

I did. I did, too.

810.831 - 821.646 Unknown

Part of me felt like, as a human, I felt bad. Like, that's all they care about is hockey. And they lost. They've had their time. So I can't imagine what they're talking about today, but they look so sad.

821.686 - 824.53 Marshall Harris

Their country's frozen three quarters of the year.

824.51 - 829.255 Unknown

Yes, they were happier getting their little stuffed animals. Whatever those were.
