Rahimi, Harris & Grote Show
Transition: Examining the dance between Roch Cholowsky and the White Sox
04 May 2026
Chapter 1: What insights do Leila Rahimi and Marshall Harris share about the White Sox?
You don't brag about your car's resale value until years later when it proves you made the right call. And Toyota makes that choice easy. For the sixth year in a row, Toyota was named the best resale value brand by Kelley Blue Book with Camry, Tacoma, and 4Runner all earning best in class. Because when you buy a vehicle that's built to last, you drive away with value you can count on.

I can smell the cream on your neck, okay? It's there to loosen it up, right?
As one does. This is Rahimi Harrison-Grote on 104.3 The Score. Thanks to our guests, Brian Baldinger, Jake Mintz, Nick Friedel. Thanks to our producers, Ray Diaz, Tyler Buterbaugh, Brandon Fryer. T-O-R-Q, TorqueCoatings.com. Yeah, you were a part of that broadcast, Matt Spiegel, and happy to see you, Gabe Ramirez.
What's up, Layla? What's up, Marshall?
Hello, good people. What up? Got good vibes in this town right now, don't we? Could you smell the cream on Nico Horner's neck? I can smell the cream on your neck. I could not. I was sitting there listening to that, getting ready to do postgame, and I was like, well, I'm sure that'll find its way to Tanny. But here we are at 2-0-3. It's found its way to Tyler Buterbaugh, and I'm glad it has.
That's creepy. That's just straight up creepy. It found its way to the morning show. Good. Yeah, we've been on this all day. I can smell the cream on your neck. There's this moment. What's the movie where Bruce Willis is like the kind of the unwilling superhero with Samuel Jackson's Unbreakable? Unbreakable. Yeah, it's part of a really good trilogy. I really like Unbreakable.
I'm a big fan of that movie. But there's a moment where one of the criminals walks up to the house of this people that he's gonna invade and he just looks at him and goes, I like your house. And the way he says it is just like so delightful and creepy. And that's what it sounded like. I can smell the cream on your neck.

Chapter 2: How does the conversation shift to the performance of Nico Horner?
You're exactly right because he's doing stuff for us. He's doing stuff for Cubs Radio Network, stuff for Marquee all in the same day. Our man is hustling. He is. Getting it done. I love a good hustle. I want to say welcome to all these people who are newly on the Nico Horner appreciation space. I've been there. I feel like an early adopter.
How did you feel when he was back on Sunday? Did it give you smiles and giggles inside? That's the dude.
Not giggles. That's the dude. I felt like I could smell the cream on his neck from up there.
You know what I mean? You wanted to smell the cream on his neck.
But here's the thing. It's like people are like, like John Greenberg just wrote a piece about like how, how Nico is like, he's the man. And PCA is like, he's my guy. Like everybody's like, I'm like, yeah, he has been that dude for a while now. Now he's paid like it and he's their best player and their leadoff hitter. What did PCA call him? Their heartbeat.
That's what he called him in the Greenberg article, which is very good.
Yeah.
For a lot of Cubs fans, he is their favorite players, favorite player, because a lot of people have PCA as their favorite player, but Nico is his favorite player.
It's interesting that there was chatter that the Cubs were going to move off of Nico Horner, you know, just not even a year ago. Less than that. Within the last year that you were hearing that. You're right. And now all of a sudden, you know, it's how dare you. We don't want to talk about the fact that I brought that up, you know.

Chapter 3: What are the implications of Rock Cholowsky's potential impact on the White Sox?
Look at who the owner is. You connect those dots.
But I just, I think that that's how like Jerry Reinsworth has always exercised his options in any what may seem like an obvious negotiation. You know, I brought up Rob Manfred, like when the commissioner's bidding was going on and Manfred wasn't the 100%
decision for the commissioner you know consensus like jerry talked to the nashville mayor recently like i don't i just think that's kind of how if there's another option i don't think he's a guy who's ever going to be like this is our sole focus you know like i've never i've never known that to 100 be the case but if he's for sure the best player like they're gonna they're gonna go down that road
Sorry, Mr. Reinsdorf, Justin Ishmael is on line two. He said he got the rest of the money for whatever it is that you need to sign Rock Chulovsky. I mean, ultimately, that's what you believe that that's the case, right?
Yeah, it's a slam dunk. It's too easy not to do it that way.
He doesn't want to. He doesn't want to inherit a team that doesn't have a Rock Chulovsky. I'm sure he's doing his due diligence on his end, who he wants in the squad as well.
The other thing is, too, a 1-1 isn't always a slam dunk, even when it is consensus. I thought about Mark Appel. I know it's been many years, but pitchers especially, it's never consensus.
I feel like the odds are higher, though, with a position player, especially someone who's been playing where he's been playing and producing for as long as he's been producing at that level. I happened to hear this trivia question over the weekend. Only four No. 1 overall picks have ever made the Hall of Fame. Four number one overalls. Ken Griffey Jr. Is correct. Ken Griffey Jr. is one of them.
Four number one overall picks have ever made the Hall of Fame.

Chapter 4: How do the hosts evaluate the White Sox's chances in the upcoming season?
So let's just look at, just for kicks, Bobby Wood Jr. was drafted in the 2019 draft. First overall was Adley Rutschman. Are you taking Rushman or are you taking Witt there? See, that's it. That's the toss-up, right? Taking Witt. Okay, so then, and you know who the third overall pick was that year? Nick Madrigal. Andrew Vaughn.
Oh, Andrew Vaughn, sorry, yeah.
Then it was J.J. Bleday, then it was Riley Green, C.J. Abrams, Nick Lodolo, Josh Young. Look at the Madrigal here. Shail Angulier's your guy.
Oh, my guy.
And then Hunter Bishop. So, I mean, but that's a good example that year, you know, Bobby Witt Jr. is in high school, Retchman is available. And then the Orioles go with Retchman over Bobby Witt Jr.
Retchman was college and Witt Jr. was in high school.
So there it is.
Yeah. It happens. It happens frequently.
It's the debate. The dance.

Chapter 5: What discussions arise around the Cubs' current performance?
And, like, that's why you got that guy, right? So we could do that, among other things. But you understand they lost the series in game two, right?
Celtics.
No Joel Embiid, and B.J. Ashcomb gives you freaking 30 points, and you lose on your home court. That's... That's opening the door. It's like the Nuggets losing that game when Anthony and DiVincenzo got hurt. And Ayo rose up. Yeah, Ayo didn't play. Don't write that one, too. So Julius Randle is out here just giving you all the work, and you've got Joker and Jamal Murray fully healthy on the court?
Yeah, that says a lot.
Go off Julius Randle. You put in your time.
It really has, though. Yeah. But I think to Gabe's point, though, the Sixers were already a good team. Now that Joel Embiid is healthy.
Today. They can go to the finals.
Today. Easily. Gabe is wearing promo Bulls material wardrobe here. People can see it. It's delightful.
And you get free Bulls gear. You know what I'm saying? You got to dress up. I like the Derek shirt. I like the Derek shirt a lot. My wife told me to put on a chain with it. Hold on. Here we go. Oh, there you go. Now I look like a real Puerto Rican from the north side. Wow. Yeah. All right, baby. I'm ready. And this is one of those shirts that's super heavy.

Chapter 6: How do the hosts analyze the significance of the upcoming Sox-Cubs matchup?
Yeah, they get paid. There's no such thing as interns now.
Yeah, I understand. I remember the Today Show.
Why are you mad that I took the free clothes?
I'm not mad you took the free clothes. What are you mad about then? It's the slapping away of the intern's hand. Poor guys. Poor, poor people. What am I supposed to do? Push them away? I don't know. What are my options there? Be a little quicker. No. But Gabe busts his ass more than anybody we know in the business. Yeah, bro, what are you talking about? He's got like eight jobs.
Just because Marshall got two jobs. Little baby two jobs.
Oh, you think I got two jobs?
You think I got two jobs?
Okay.
Three jobs?

Chapter 7: What are the latest updates on player trades and team strategies?
I did one inning of play-by-play yesterday. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like a dream of doing that. No, you're right. No matter where you are, that's how you live. Exactly. Or be like Gabe and have 10 jobs.
Yeah. Because here's the newsflash. Regardless of how amazing you are, you're never just going to be on your couch and somebody's going to call you and be like, dude, you're so amazing. And I've been waiting to call you up. And I know you're not doing anything else.
You're not doing anything right now. Let me go find you.
You got no jobs. You're not putting in work anywhere. But I got this big opportunity. That's never going to happen.
And if it does over text, delete the text immediately. It is a scam.
It is a scam. Unless you're a starting pitcher. And he's sitting out there. And Lucas Giolito finally gets that call. Anybody call Marcus Stroman yet? Maybe after this Tarek Skubal news, people will be calling more starters. How much does that help them? Loose bodies. Loose bodies. Tarek Skubal out for, what, a couple months at least? Yeah, so if you're the White Sox right now in this moment.
If you're the entire American league. I got you, but I'm specifically speaking through the White Sox lens. AL Central looks real wide open right now. How about the entire American League? Do you know who would get the second bye in the American League playoffs? In the way too early playoffs? The way too early playoffs.
The one that the White Sox are in, just by the way.
Hell yeah, way too early playoffs.
