She is Layla Rahimi. Hi. I am Mark Grody. Hi, Mark. Absolutely. Hi, Mark. Hi, Layles. Hi, Mark. I'm just going
to keep doing the
James Franklin. Hi. How are you? Good to see you. We're established and we're confirmed now, coach. I hope you're happy. We do call ourselves Rahimi and Grody. That's the name of the show here on 104.3 The Score. We are going to be all Bearsed up today. We have so many great Bears guests, including Neville Gallimore, like we talked about. He's on at one.
He's a talker.
He is. Hopefully we can bring out the best in Neville Gallimore. I think the people are going to like Neville Gallimore. So he's with us at 1. Patrick Manley in about an hour from right now. Tim Jenkins, our quarterback guru. So we have so much Bears content for you today. But... I think we need to start with the Chicago White Sox today, who beat the Guardians 7-3 last night. The magical number is now 10. Perhaps even more importantly, the White Sox now 7-4 against Cleveland. They clinched the season series, which means they have clinched the tiebreaker. And Layla, we talked about this yesterday in the producer's studios. We're having our Rinaldi's Pizza Party right after the program today. Victory chicken, thanks to Rinaldi's.
We appreciate it. It was absolutely delicious in every way, shape, and form. But I brought it up. It's the White Sox. Just always, when you think they're down and out and this magical dream is going to dissipate and just fall off the table, they go and do something like they did last night where they beat the Guardians in handily and loosely by four runs last night. The Sean's come through for you. Sean Newcomb opens the game expertly. Sean Burke about as good as he's looked in a long time with five strong innings of shutout baseball, four strikeouts, a couple of walks, got off to 94 pitches on the day. The Sox gave their fans exactly what they needed last night in Cleveland.
What was the significance of the White Sox 7‑3 win over the Guardians?
That felt so good.
Well, and again, they had come into this game losing 10 out of their last 14 games. This was not exactly the aberration that we had seen the White Sox lose previously, where it would be a couple games here, a couple games there. They come back. They find their watermark, which has been a few games above 500. We had seen a stretch of bad baseball over two weeks equivalent, 10 out of 14. That's enough to give you concern, especially going into what is... An absolutely necessary series. Say whatever word you need to describe how crucial this series is against the Guardians. Where, I think a year ago to the day, maybe to the week, I saw the atmosphere in Cleveland be absolutely electric against Detroit. And they were able to advance to the playoffs.
I was anticipating this. We know what it can get like there. We know how incredible the atmosphere and the fans can get and how intense it all is. They shut it down. And you're right. They were able to right the ship with enough of what they needed. Now, there were some incredible performances in this game. I do think it starts with Sean Newcomb. I do think it also continued with Sean Burke. Tristan Peters had the at-bat of the year. 18 pitches. It was the longest at-bat that baseball had seen since 2020. And I have never been so enthralled to see a walk turn into what ended up being a rally for this team. Just an incredible performance. And when you consider, Mark, how they've hustled the entire season, how they try to take every single inch when they can...
I'm not surprised that a gutty at-bat like that, that resulted in chasing your starting pitcher on the other side, Williams, out of the game, ended up being indicative of the Sox ending up winning this game by a final of 7-3. Yeah,
and White Sox fans, if you want to get in on the text line, 3126446767, was your belief reconfirmed again this year? Because there's just been so many moments this year. The White Sox have been in first place since, what, July 4th? I believe it was the 4th of July when they locked up the position. And there's been so many points during the season where it's like, here comes the fade.
