Chapter 1: What are the implications of Shane Doan's departure for the Leafs?
All right, I'm back. Hooray! Start of a big week on The Real Kipper and Bourne Show. We're live on Sportsnet 360, 590 The Fan in Toronto, streaming always on Sportsnet+. Catch us on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube. If you cannot catch us live, Nick Kiprios, Justin Bourne, Sammy McKee, Jake the Snake Schultz, Double A? Andrew Adams? Yep. Wow. Not a typo?
No, because I walked in there today to hand in the original lineup, and it was him sitting there, and he said Derek called in literally 10 minutes ago, so I had the chance to change it.
I like that you have to say it with extreme caution. Andrew Adams? I like to keep you on your toes, guys.
We got a terrific two hours. Gary Gally will join us at the top of the hour. And Kirk Muller, who took out the torch last night. And an electric, electric night in Montreal.
Oh, my God.

Chapter 2: How does John Chayka's reputation affect free agent perceptions?
First building that's ever been loud? I will say it's a tough scene online. It's like, oh, the Montreal building loud for a playoff game. Here's 5,000 words. It's like, yeah, shocker. Shocker they like it there.
Four unanswered goals and not a commanding lead in the series, but I think emotionally people are feeling it right now.
Tough to imagine a world where they get beat three straight here, isn't it? They look really good.
They look really good.
Surprised how good they look.
In the meantime, what do you got for me in Leafland? I mean, what do you got? You've been away. It hurt anything? Well, my daughter graduated this past weekend. Got a chance to hang out with her. Not too many... Not too much Leaf talk in South Carolina. I got to be honest with you.

Chapter 3: What impact do Auston Matthews' comments have on the Leafs' free-agent outlook?
How was the graduation? I went to one in Florida for my cousin. A lot of pomp and circumstance. How was it there? It's a big deal.
Yeah. It's a big deal. I couldn't even tell you. My sister's graduation. I think I got mailed a diploma. And then my cousin, another Nick Kiprio, stole my credit.
What did you graduate from exactly? High school. Let's just be clear here.
Dr. Norman Bethune, George Vanier. I got a lot of high school behind me. It's not a big deal. Graduating.
Yeah, that's awesome.
And he recognizes down there?

Chapter 4: What does Mitch Marner's playoff performance reveal about his time with the Leafs?
Anybody like, hey, Nick, I love the show?
I got to be honest with you. So we're in this auditorium. There's about 9,000, 10,000 people. And the campus is sick. I would put this auditorium that Clemson plays basketball in probably up against... Half the NBA's league for like a facility, not probably, you know, shy about 8,000 people, but still it's phenomenal. I mean, that's awesome.
So just prior to that morning, my wife's like, you don't pay attention to me. I say, I pay attention. I do. I do. I do pay attention to you. So sure enough, before the ceremony starts, they honor like the military and they, I wasn't paying attention. And they said, for those of you that have served, please stand up. And I'm thinking I'm standing up and applauding all the people in the military.
And now I got, like, everybody, like, looking at me and applauding.
You stood up and took a round of applause.
I took a round for service.

Chapter 5: What potential trade scenarios exist for Auston Matthews?
And now I'm cooked. I'm cooked because the moment it's over, people come up to me and they're asking me, you know, where I served. And now I'm like, there's no going back. You committed to the bit? Yes. And all I said was special service, special service, like deep undercover. I can't tell you.
It's classified. That is truly hilarious.
And then I raced out of there. Wow. Yeah, my wife was not happy, by the way. She's like, you're such an idiot.
That's truly, like, that's very Seinfeld. You love Seinfeld? It is extremely Seinfeld.
Yeah, that's George in the limo, I guess.
That's fantastic. Great story. Everyone here thought you were getting interviewed for various positions around the league.

Chapter 6: Should the Leafs consider trading down from the first overall pick?
Yeah. That was the talk in Toronto.
Vancouver, mostly.
Oh gosh.
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, there's some, there's some few, I mean, people had amazing theories in the YouTube chat line. Like it was just, you know, he's interviewing with Sundin. He's doing this. He's an own sound. There was tons of different.
I don't think they, Matt's or John need help at this point. No. Just getting their feet wet now. We don't know. They're minus Shane Doan, right? Officially. Yeah. But not a real surprise there.
Definitely no surprise.

Chapter 7: What are the signs indicating Craig Berube's future with the team?
I would say that I listened to part of my take today, which is popular American sports podcast. And Paul Bissonette was on there today. And if you're interested in this sort of the backstory between Chica and Shane Doan, there definitely is one. He explained it. He went through it. Some of his sort of rationale for cutting out in the least, but like there is a bit of a backstory with those two.
So I don't know what the actual facts are, but there's some stuff there.
I wasn't paying complete attention. No way. Sorry, Corporal.
What was that?
Thank you. Biz is no longer, like, cheering for the Leafs.
Yeah, he's out of the Leafs.
He's done. Yes. And for personal reasons, because it's tied into Shane Doan.
Yes. And Shane Doan, when Chyka took over the Coyotes... When he was, what, 26, right?

Chapter 8: How do free agents view the Toronto market compared to other teams?
And Doan was near the last of his career. And he had had a bad year. And he didn't know if he was going to play anymore. But he didn't know what was going to happen. And basically, Chayka told him that he's not going to be part of it anymore. And then, you know, as a big Mr. Arizona, you know how popular he is there. Yeah. That was taken the wrong way.
A lot of people in the league, a lot of people didn't love that. So that was a big part of the reason that biz quit on them and sort of the context for the Chica-Done sort of relationship.
Yeah, I think a lot of people thought Don't should have been kind of tossed. If you want to play fourth line for a million bucks, year-end swan song contract. Chica is an analytics guy, and that was supposed to be more cutthroat and not good enough. So, I mean, you can sit on either side of that.
I think there's a fair case to be made that Doan wasn't coming off some electric season, putting up huge numbers where he had to have them. But I do appreciate the respect owed. And so, yeah, there's both sides of that.
Yeah.
Keep him in the org if you want him in the front role or front office role.
For a guy back then in, what, 26, 27... Be interesting to know if he could go back and do it all over again, whether or not it would be worth it to him just to say, okay, it's not like I'm making decisions now for a Stanley Cup championship run here. Totally.
Yep.
Adding him on as a 13th forward, hey, I may play 40, 50, 60 games. We'll see how injuries goes.
