Welcome to American Icons Month. You know, it's July and we got to keep it positive. Yes, you know what? Like we were saying... I forgot. Oh, Tess sent me the teaser for our American Icons Month. Claire and I have talked about this before, that we'll travel and go abroad, as one does during the summer. Of course. And sometimes when we get back from Europe, we have this feeling where we're like, that was amazing.
But God, I missed some things that are just like American things like AC. Ice. Ice and fucking drinks. Late night food. Like you can order food at any time in America. Anytime you want straight to your door. Literally any place. Yeah. Yeah. And right now, actually, I don't know, like the World Cup and we'll see where we are when this episode comes out. But it has made me feel proud and patriotic again. Well, Trump should not take that away from us because it's one. I mean, it's really bad. It's really bad what's going on. But it's also like he does not embody America or the American people. Like there's so many cool Americans. That's why we want to do this month because we're like, OK, yes, it's our anniversary this month, 250, all of that.
That's why we're doing American Icons Month for our British Rammies. Hey, guess what? We won.
Yeah.
So, you know, you just got to like remember that we've done some really cool shit. We've done some really bad shit, too. Exactly. So anyway, that's why we thought it would be really fun to kick off the month talking about the first female astronaut that was American who went to space in 1983. And that's Sally Ride, you guys. Wow. I mean, one that has been top of your list for a long time. Yeah, forever. And then a documentary came out about her on Hulu, Disney Hulu. They're the same these days, aren't they? Yeah, I think that Disney owns Hulu. The bundle. And so I watched that and I just am so glad because I don't think I would have gotten her essence without the documentary. And I just, you know, look, NASA has made a lot of mistakes.
Oh, really? Yeah. You know, you guys, I'm not a space girly. Tess is our resident space girly here at Ram. I love space so much, but you loved Project Hail Mary. I did. I really did. And I think that like is why I love space movies in space because it's like hope and like something so beyond us that like we can't even know. Space is so grand. No, it is. But yeah, it's just about hope and optimism and something beyond ourselves and greater than ourselves that we can imagine. But we talked about this. We have a Hidden Figures episode on Premium. We talked about how just NASA was like super racist, homophobic, sexist. So while I really admire NASA and I think it's like a cool thing about America, it wasn't cool in the 50s, 60s and 70s.
Like now it's such a... Better run ship, if you will. But back then, it was really hard. And it was hard for someone like Sally Ride, who was a lesbian and a woman. And we're going to talk about everything that she had to overcome to get up there. I can't wait. Isn't Kristen Stewart playing her in a movie? Yes. Can't wait for that. Very excited.
