Mark Gatiss: actor, writer, producer, director and creator - this is someone who makes Gyles Brandreth look like an under-achiever! From The League of Gentlemen, to Doctor Who, Sherlock and the Christmas Ghost Stories, Mark has been behind some of the most distinctive and original television of recent times. He's also an actor - recently winning awards for his portrayal of Sir John Gielgud in Jack Thorne's The Motive and The Cue. And it goes without saying that he's a fascinating person, with a fascinating story to tell. In this episode, which was recorded live at The Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond, Mark talks to Gyles about his working class childhood, growing up opposite the local psychiatric hospital. He talks about his hatred of PE lessons, his early obsession with TV and how he became interested in horror. He talks about coming out to his parents and how he met the rest of the League of Gentlemen at drama school. With thanks to the team at The Orange Tree Theatre and to Mark Gatiss for this brilliant interview. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices Hosted on Acast.
