Chapter 8: How does Margaret handle advertising and revenue generation?
Coming up tomorrow morning, Top Tribe, you are going to hear from Bryan Adams. He's like the modern day Ford. He produces 30,000 pounds per day. He's an efficiency machine that did 7 million last year on industrial plants. Okay, Top Drive, good morning to you. I am holding the glass that Rochelle sent for me from Tanzania.
It's a coffee mug with my green tea this morning, and I am elated for our guest today. Her name is Margaret Brown, and she is the owner and publisher of Shelf Media, a digital media company publishing podster, shelf-unbound indie book review, and middle shelf magazines. She's doing very, very well. Margaret, are you ready to take us to the top?
I am ready, Nathan. Let's do it.
We're both warm while the East Coast is getting pummeled with snow. So that's good news. But Margaret, tell everyone first what exactly shelf media is, and then let's jump into the numbers.
Sounds good, Nathan. Okay, so I had been a magazine editor for 25 years, and when digital really started to take off around 2010 and the iPad was coming out, I decided to do my own thing, and I quit my job and launched Shelf Media. We started with Shelf Unbound Indie Book Review Magazine. It's a digital-only magazine and is actually the 2015 Maggie Award winner for Best Digital Magazine.
Wow. Congratulations.
Thank you. Yeah. We've been a finalist for three years and we finally got it. Well, it's not easy.
It's very, very competitive. That's why I wanted you on. Congratulations.
Good. Yeah. I'd like to share the story. So the great thing about Shelf Media is that because we're digital only, we were able to launch for next to nothing in terms of investment.
