It was fun to watch all the trade activity last week and through the draft. It's a very hot market. It's a seller's market. And the Vancouver Canucks are one of the only rebuilding teams out there. We saw they made the moves yesterday with Hoaglander and Gallagher, but can't help think there isn't more to take advantage of here with all these teams busy buying up talent.
Well, I mean, it's safe to assume that Ryan Johnson and management of the Vancouver Canucks are eagerly waiting, and they're open for business, as they would be and they should be. But what is not unique, but it is different about this group, is you've got a group that is somewhat inexperienced, certainly Ryan as a general manager in the National Hockey League. So being very careful and mindful of what is dispensed to the public prematurely. Right. So he's not going to show his hand entirely as to what they're willing to do. But we talk to a lot of teams. We talk to a lot of agents around the National Hockey League. And there is a genuine sense that there is a willingness to do more, if not a lot more.
And, you know, where do you want to start with that? You know, they're not interested in moving good, young, developing players. Why would they be? I mean, that would be contrary to the direction that they're going in. But the usual suspects, names that you guys have talked about here on the show for a number of days, if not weeks now, are similar to the names that we would be hearing across the NHL. But I do not get the sense. And I qualify every single time that things change with a simple phone call, especially this time here. I don't get the sense that Ryan is close to anything that I would deem to be significant. Now, you know, the Brendan Gallagher trade, I spoke about this. I reported on it early last week, and that was of no surprise to anybody.
Right. I think I think, frankly, Montreal was a bit annoyed that that information got out because Montreal, even though this was a legacy trade. Right. It was. I mean, the information I got when I was poking around yesterday. Well, what are you getting back for? Yeah. What are you getting back for for Gallagher? And I got a note that said Freddie Charles. And then it dawned on me, okay, somebody once said this to me a long time ago, FC, future considerations, Freddie Charles. Freddie Charles, I love it. Very good. Okay, here we go. So that took the better part of a week. Now, granted, there was a draft in between to get that deal done, but the Canadians do right by Gallagher. Gallagher will be a nice add for the Vancouver Canucks from an experience perspective.
He still has some game left, but I think that the window, the door is open for Ryan to do more than he's done already.
There doesn't seem to be many obvious overpaid veterans out there that the Canucks could even trade for to get some assets as well.
