Good, good. In like quasi-recovery mode, because there was a lot going on in and out of that rink. Yeah. A lot of activity. And yeah, here looking forward to what I expect to be an intriguing week. I don't know how busy overall it'll get, but it's going to be intriguing to say the least.
Well, it was an intriguing weekend, David. Like, boy, like at one point Jeff Patterson did the math. There was like... 21 teams had been a party to trades heading into Friday draft day. A whole bunch more jumped into the trade market on Friday and through the weekend. The draft show itself may leave something to be desired, decentralized, but the actual activity around the National Hockey League, I thought, was quite compelling over the weekend.
Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah, it was it was active. A lot of running back and forth, you know, around trying to get some information. The teams obviously aren't there. Agents are there. So you're trying to scope out what's going on league wide. And, you know, your phone's blowing up because you're trying to get all that all that, you know, the info and the talk. We could have had that big hellebuck to Buffalo trade. That didn't happen. You know, a lot of other activity that that kind of came down to the wire that didn't. Didn't transpire further. The Wierenski stuff kind of shook everything up, and then a few hours later, uh-oh, Marchenko, too, doesn't want to sign beyond his deal. Those conversations have continued.
There was talk all of Friday when the Wierenski stuff started to come out that, hey, there may be a good fit here with Dallas involving Thomas Harley. So keep tabs on that, and we're still waiting to see if they get to the finish line on that. But Columbus in a tough spot. They want NHL-ready talent. We could see some more fireworks this week. They don't want to rush it, but if they get what they want, yeah, again, we may see some different headlines here over the next few days.
Is this weird demilitarized zone in between the draft and free agency? Are people looking at that as the trade zone for some reason? The fact that the Canucks consummated these two trades here to start the week, I sort of thought, huh, I hadn't really pegged this as sort of trade season in the week before free agency. I thought it was going to be sort of July 4th when all the disappointed suitors go to the trade market. But you tell me, what do you think this week is?
This is going to be all of the above. This is going to be before, during, after. Because once teams get an idea as to whether or not they're in on certain free agents or not, then that kind of helps point them in the right direction. And when they're out, then they start to pivot and look to make other moves. And... because it's not deep, you know, everybody is kind of looking to see what other options are available. And then when you get these guys like Marchenko and Wierenski and Larkin and everybody that's available, it just ups the conversation. And sometimes it leads to other conversations too. All right, we know we're not going to be able to get this guy. Let's give this team a call and circle back on that player and so on.
So that's kind of what Some teams have done, Anaheim and San Jose have done, with respect to Darnell Nurse, circling back there to see if maybe that's an option. Can we convince him to come to our team? Because, you know, deals with Pittsburgh and Boston don't seem to work out, LA as well. Philly's still kind of in that mix, though. So it leads to all these different types of conversations that... We could see more moves happen Tuesday. I'm expecting a little bit on July 1 itself as well. And then, yeah, the few days after that before everybody firms up their decisions and then, all right, everybody breathes and goes to the cottage for the summer.
