I mean, it's a no-brainer, given who's calling the shots now and the fact that Manny was an internal hire. Like, I don't even think you needed to interview anyone else. Like, there's no one else that this makes sense for. And if you think about all these guys moving forward, like Ryan Johnson, the Sedin twins, and Manny Malhotra. It feels like it's going to be very aligned. So you're going to be able to cultivate and build a culture together. And it's not something that's done overnight. But if you're consistent with what you preach and what you do, which these guys are going to be, I think it's... It makes so much sense on so many levels. So I think it was a complete no-brainer. And now they should feel really optimistic about who they have in place at this point.
So I think that's one box checked off now and you got a bunch more to kind of tick off as you move on.
I like how everybody was worried that Manny was going to get stolen by the Leafs if he wasn't hired by the Canucks. And now the Leafs have moved on to Patrick Waugh, Peter Laviolette, the most anti-Manny Malhotra profiles that you can possibly think of in the coaching ranks.
And we did the story earlier. Molly Walker in New York says they've checked in on Vincent Trocek. They're looking to make a trade. So I guess in Leafland, they're looking to retool and see if they can compete again. Manny Staffrank, so rookie NHL head coach, but a guy who's been an assistant and a guy who's been an AHL head coach. J-Pat was in here yesterday saying he loves the idea of a former NHL head coach on the staff as the lead assistant with Manny. What do you think is important for him as he rounds out his staff? Because you're a guy who spent a lot of time with assistant coaches. in his NHL career. So talk to me about a staff. What makes a good staff the type of people, knowing Manny's personality, that you think he needs to pair with himself?
I think Manny is going to be calm when he needs to be, firm when he needs to be, but ultimately having a guy who can bridge the gap between some of the players and the coaches and just be a little bit of that like...
