It was straight VTV to Sportsnet because at the time VTV was CTV and at the time Sportsnet was CTV Sportsnet and then it split off. Yes, yes. I was very fortunate to be... Actually, Brad Fay and I were both part of the rehearsal show from the Pacific region for Sportsnet when it launched. I didn't move to Toronto until 2000, but yeah, I filled in in the summer of 99 and I was absolutely over my skis and thrilled. And when somebody says you want to do the thing you've always dreamt of doing, you don't say no. Right. I was like, well, I guess I'll try. Yeah.
This is why I wanted to bring you on. I mean, you had a big stake in building the SportsCent brand to the point where it opens a radio station out here, but you're also a talk show host, and you were telling us just off air here that News 1130 really hit home with you yesterday as well, the loss of that iconic station here in our city.
Yeah, I mean, the industry is competitive, as we all well know, but it is also a very close-knit group of people who love what they do and work really, really hard to create an environment that appears to be very easy, right? Like, it's effortless for you guys to do what you do every day. You put a lot of work into it. So there are a lot of people yesterday who... who unceremoniously were relieved of their duties en masse. And I'm sad beyond what words can really say because it's, you're not in radio until you've been fired in radio. Like you learn that day one, right? Like that's going to happen. It's not personal. It's the business. Somebody changes up top. They want to bring in their person, whatever.
But to see an entire group radio station or brand go dark. As we saw with TSN Radio in Vancouver, you guys well know, it's like stunning. It's a jolt. It makes you feel, it makes me feel anyway, extremely sad for what could have been, for what might have been, how the industry has shifted and changed. And yet here we are and we're going to talk sports. So it's not going to kill the genre, it's not going to take away the necessity of breaking down, you know, how do you think Thatcher Demko's knee is? Like, we're going to need to talk about, you know, what Petey's doing or not doing, especially with this new front office.
