Yeah, thank you for having me. I'm excited to be here.
Well, we're all excited to watch you play here at the Coliseum. First of all, Caroline's your given name, but you go by KK. Explain.
Yeah, so my name is Caroline. And ever since I was little, my sister couldn't pronounce my first name. And it came out sounding like KK. And it's stuck ever since. And everyone in the hockey world knows me as that. It's pretty much my name at this point.
Going with it for official purposes, I saw last week. Absolutely love it. Talk to me about your hockey journey. How did you get involved in this sport?
Yeah, pretty much as soon as I could walk and talk, I knew I wanted to be a hockey player. It was all because of my brother. was playing for me and I wanted to be following in his footsteps, just like my older brother and my dad would bring me to the rink. And he had to hold me back for a while. He was like, okay, wait your turn, like not yet, you're too young. And then eventually he let me out on the ice. And ever since then, I never looked back and I love skating, I love the sport and I fell in love with hockey.
Where did you grow up?
I was born in Massachusetts. I grew up there for 11 years and then I moved to New Hampshire and now that's where I live now.
What made you decide the University of Wisconsin?
I mean, there's a couple. One was back home, Providence College, and then that was one of my final options. But ultimately, the university just sold me the facilities, the unbelievable coaching staff, the winning culture. It was undeniable. I knew as soon as I stepped on campus, that felt like my new home. And it felt like just it made sense. So I was like, this is where I want to be. And it made the decision easy.
You've played a number of years now with the national team. Tell us about representing your country, winning an Olympic gold medal and a world championship.
Yeah, it means everything. Every time you put on that jersey, it never gets old. And it is a special feeling. And I feel super grateful every time I get to represent my country alongside the most amazing teammates and coaches. But yeah, it's been an unbelievable year and just proud of our team for what we did over in Milan. But yeah, again, never gets old and hoping to get some more opportunities down the road.
You were long thought to be the first pick in the PWHL draft. How much were you following the league and the Golden Eyes as we got down the stretch?
Yeah, I feel like just even the last couple of years, I've been an avid watcher. And me and my roommate, Layla Edwards, we'd sit down and cook meals every night and watch any PWHL game that was on. So especially down the stretch, though, as you said, with the goal plan in place, we were watching very closely. And we were just wondering how things would shake out, how things would finish. I mean, I was just excited to hear my name called on draft night and wherever it would be, but super grateful to now call Vancouver my home.
Yeah, for those who don't know, the gold plan, very novel from the PWHL. You accumulate points after you are eliminated from postseason contention. The team with the most points gets the first pick. That was the gold. And tell us more about draft night. Where did you watch and what were the celebrations like?
Yeah, it was a special night. It will definitely be one that I will remember forever.
How did KK Harvey get into hockey and where did she grow up?
I had my family there. We were in Detroit and had a Yeah, my immediate family, extended family, and then some coaches there, which was very special. Coaches since I pretty much started the game, very full circle moment. And it meant the world for all them to be there. And I mean, as soon as I heard my name called, it was very special. Made sure to give them all hugs.
