Yeah, no, we made the move. I think it was a wise one. Much more comfortable here. How's it going? I mean, you've sort of settled in now. It's been five rounds or six rounds, whatever it is. It's a bit confusing. Happy?
Yeah, no, it's going well. I mean, I think... I go along to the games these days just making sure the umpies or hoping that the umpies are going okay and the new rules are going okay. And I think both those things are pretty good. Last week it was only one stand per game paid and then the ruck rule seems to have worked itself out and a few of those ones are a bit contentious. Last night there was a few arc interventions on the – Last touches out of bounds. But our view is just to get it right. So I was happy with how that went last night.
Can I explore that a little bit further? Like, is there going to be a point where, I don't know how many there was, probably four or five last night. And it was really quick. It was efficient, which I was pleased with. And they made the right call every time. But do we want to be in a situation where we're having eight, nine, ten?
Yeah. last disposal reviews per game it's a it's a really good question i mean i think um and one will continue to review because we as we as i just said we we want to get it right um and we certainly want to get it right deeper into the game because they're the ones that you know can swing it at the time and so whether you need to spend as much time in the first quarter as you do in you know five minutes ago in the last quarter uh is debatable but at the minute Yeah, we're going down that path if they can do it pretty quickly. So I think last night was... And last night was one of those nights where, you know, when it got wet and there was balls scrubbing off blokes' legs and, you know, it was pretty hard.
But I think you're right. I think they got them right. So we were happy with that. So was that in response to the Atkins one in Geelong a couple of weeks ago? Yeah, it probably was. And there was a good one that got paid late in the game against Port Adelaide and Eagles. There was one where they, you know, clarified a free kick and which... had been paid the wrong way. So, and that was a, you know, four point game, I think it was. So, so yeah, and it was the, the Atkins one, it just took too long to get a call. And then, then they didn't make a call. It wasn't like they got it wrong. They just didn't make a call because they didn't have the time. And then they, you know, they went with umpire's call and off it went.
So you're happy with this sort of intervention?
Well, that's the debate. How often and how many times and what stage of the game do you do it? So you're not happy? No, no. I like our game. Are you happy? I was last night because I just thought the conditions meant it was really grey as to who's free it was. And I think... Yeah, I just think you want to get it right. That was the thing with the Atkins one. And it's pretty quick, I think, on the coverage. Like, hang on, they come off Atkins. How come we – that shouldn't be a free to Geelong. And everyone loses their mind. And if we can fix it, we should. And so that was probably – that was better than – it was better last night.
How have you seen – Goal umpiring this year. Because I've never seen a bunch of goal umpires that have lacked confidence with their own calls. It is a problem. We're reviewing a hell of a lot of goal umpiring.
