Chapter 1: What is discussed at the start of this section?
Well, it was one of the best programs I've been involved in this morning. Balls for Ballers was launched, singing everywhere. Everyone got involved. A little bit of Sinead from Kane was outrageous. But join in tonight with the great call team at the Carlton versus Geelong game. Dwayne Russell, Steve Quartermain, G Healy and Bradley Johnson will take you through a cracking game.
AFL Nation, tonight is the end. Fireball.

Kane and Kingy. Fireball.
6.01 on the dot. Very good morning to you. It might be our biggest show ever. There has been recordings going on left, right and centre. We have dragged everyone into the recording booth this week. There's songs coming out of our backsides. Cannot wait. My Hawks got it done last night. And if you didn't keep the score, Saints fans, you may have won, according to Ross Lyon Logic.
We'll get to that after 7 o'clock.

Chapter 2: What new segments are introduced in the show?
The Fireball Quiz, of course, is back. Who's in the gun? Chris Davies. The Blues have selected... their panel, to pick the new coach. He's on it, and he's going to join us live in the studio after 8 o'clock. The agenda, Sammy Ebbin with the news, and then your feedback. It doesn't get any bigger than that. A man who's been in good form. I'm nervous what he's got for us this morning.
And he was right behind the Blues on Wednesday night. Anyway, New South Wales' biggest fan, David King. Good morning. Morning, Cornsy. Hey, where have you been? What is going on? Managed. Managed? Managed. Right. What is this? Is there signs of fatigue? No, no, just Channel 7 look after their people. They just sort of rotate a little break every now and then, and that was me last night.
You don't rotate the main man. What do you mean rotate? Give me a spell. You've been giving it to Pendles for weeks about having a spell, and you took one. Unbelievable. You were managed on Wednesday night, I saw. No, no, it's quite the opposite.
Chapter 3: How did the Hawks perform in last night's game?
Boss said you're seeing them that well, mate. You've just got to cool down. You'll burn out. Stuff on Essendon. Look where that took us. So you went down to... You lit the fire early on Brisbane, just settled down. You hung out with Gilly. Oh, the great man, yeah. Yeah. He's a very entertaining guy. I must admit, I've got a bit of a crush on Gilly. He's... Yeah, like a man crush, you know.
Not a genuine crush. I get you. A little bit weird, you know. But, no, he's a star. He's got the tequila brand out, the new tequila brand, El Aguero. We had him on about that. You'd be across it. Yeah, of course. We had him on the program about it. We launched it single-handedly on Fireball. You haven't had one. Maybe at the end of the season party, do you reckon you could have one El Aguero?
Yeah, just a shot of tequila. Yeah, no. because it's been a tough time in the tequila business. Has it? Well, you've got to get it out of Mexico. There's some hectic sort of negotiations. But anyway, that's... Your blues got up. You were flat in the first half I saw. How good were they? Clapping along and... No, no. We had one guy with us who's the CEO of the company of Aliquera.
He's a big Queensland guy, and they led by 20-odd. And to say he was in our face, is there anything more annoying? I'm into it. I like it. I like the state of origin. I like NRL. And he was right in our beak. Right. Yeah. Well, didn't that finish nicely for him? The tables turned. So we didn't belittle him. We just gave him a little shake of hands and then sort of said, pull your head in.
But anyway, it was a good night. It was a good night. It was the most watched. State of origin ever, 4 million.

Chapter 4: What are the thoughts on the upcoming quiz?
4 million viewers. That's a lot, isn't it? That's a lot. That's why your boys are in for it now. That's why Channel 7 is trying to get the NRL. Well, you know that I love the NRL. You know how I feel about it. Not one highlight, I think you said. But you know what it sort of challenges me to do? Because I've got another crush for one of our callers in here. He's our panel guy, JK.
I think he's underutilized. I thought you were going to say Lisa for a moment. Where's Lisa? She came in last week. She dropped in a batch of sausage rolls. Wow. It's the digi guys, mate. A couple of them took their fingers off. It was like a shark eating attack out the back. It was like a frenzy. Slevo's minus a little pinky. But anyway, so JK, right?
So you know how sometimes you've got your Fitbit on and all that sort of stuff? Yeah, my Garmin. Whenever there's a sporting event on, I strap our little recording machine, our little recording device to JK.
just while he's on the couch and you wouldn't believe what i captured on wednesday night there's a minute 30 left in origin one it's bucketing rain in sydney what else is new hudson young to play the ball nathan cleary sends up the bomb ted esco's chasing after it james tedesco for new south wales at the death an incredible comeback from new south wales one of the great comebacks since durham in 89 since
Tiger Woods since Brent Gwera's hairline.
How on earth does Kane Corns think there's no highlights in this sport? New South Wales will go on to win. I love rugby league.
Brent Gwera's hairline. I like it, Jake. I'd say I'm pushing for him. You know we do blues radio and that stuff. Yeah. I think just on the back of that alone, I could see a random – JK. Definitely. There's nothing you can't do. Would you do specials? Would you drop in and do specials? Yeah. Yep. I would. That's something that I would do with you. Just a completely lateral random stupid.
We should actually do that. Yeah. Like a blues radio style, but our version. You could be in the background just going, this is boring. What's happening here? Oh, they're tackling again. Oh, that's their fifth tackle. Oh, yep. Throw and catch. Better kick it now. Nice catch. The enhanced games. Oh, yeah. The missile. He bombed. Didn't he? No good. No good. Last.
It was a bit of a balls up, wasn't it? It was valued at $1.2 billion and a couple of clean athletes won, which is amazing. Can't find me Freddie. Can't find me Freddie got up. He got up. And they flared into the tennis as well because I saw – is that part of the enhanced games, the tennis? I saw Yannick – I thought Yannick Sinner got flared overnight.

Chapter 5: What recent performance issues are the Saints facing?
Pretty important last fortnight for them after not winning a game the previous three weeks. That draw in there, of course, against Collingwood. Let's talk about the Saints because they are... sitting right now in 11th position at 5-7. Some injuries piling up.
Chapter 6: What strategies are being employed by Essendon and the Saints?
That position will drop, of course, if there's a couple of other results that don't get their way this weekend. And it gets me to a little bit of what Essendon have chosen to do. So remember, Essendon went down the path of not dissimilar to what the Saints have done with their list. When you bring in Stringer and you bring in Gresham and you bring in Scheel and you add to your group,
And that doesn't really get you where you want to go. So then you go, okay, well, that didn't work. We're going to completely revise the strategy and we're going to rebuild this thing properly. And with that comes absolute pain. Now, the Saints to me have taken a similar line, which I don't think anyone was that critical of. It was like, okay, well, you're going to have a crack.
Chapter 7: How are injuries impacting player performance and team strategy?
Let's see how it goes. But when it doesn't work, And you get performances last night that you get from Deconing, when Flanders gets injured, when McRae's still plodding around in that midfield, when Silvani's battling in the role that you got him to do, and that's behind the ball until he was swung forward late.
When you look at Henry, when Ryan's not playing, that's the strategy that they've gone down. And I just don't know where it's going to get them, Kingy. I just don't. And they... They would internally be having those discussions right now.
This is a lot to unwind if this continues to go down a path, and that is of little improvement year on year, despite the fact that you've splashed all this cash on some B-grade players. Wow. Yeah, I don't know if I agree with that. At what cost? So the cost of pick seven, I think it was, for Sam Flanders is a discussion, right? That's a worthy chat. You can argue that.
Chapter 8: What are the implications of the latest umpiring decisions?
But the rest are financial costs, aren't they? There's no real draft impact from those guys. So if there's no draft impact, I think you're roll on. Every team at this stage of their development cannot play without Nassir Wengene Miller, Liam Ryan's important for them. Jack Higgins, they're game changers for this team. They're so critical.
St Kilda are not at the stage where they can have three of their top, you know, I would say that Nassir and Jack Higgins would be two of their top four players. They're not at a stage where they can cope with not having those guys as part of the selected 23. But how were they going when those guys were a part of the selected 23? They're about, you know, they're scraping for the 10.
Even when those guys had played, I mean, they, They beat the teams that they should beat, the Saints, but they're not going to be competitive against really the top six teams. If you look through, don't have it in front of me, but the teams that they've beaten this year, it's been those that are underneath them, really, even when those guys were playing. So I get it. And last night was difficult.
You're right. You lose those players. It's always going to be hard. Just holistically, where are they at and where are they going to be with these strategic list management moves that they've made? All right. So I'll give you some evidence of what's happened over the last 18 months. So Nassau Wangene Miller in 2024 was ranked the 84th AFL player. Went to 11th last year, sits 14th at the moment.
So that's tracking beautifully for 2028. I'm looking at 2028. Max Hall is now a top 40 player in the competition. Hugo Garcia has gone from 260-odd last year to 54. This is prior to last night. Darcy Wilson, over the last six weeks, is in the top 50 AFL players. And Philippou was outside of the top 200, is now around the top 120-odd. Now, he didn't have a great night last night.
But I think there's enough there to suggest that this midfield group, if they can keep them together, and Wilson's a watch with his contractual status, if they can keep this group together, I think in 40 or so games, they do get an opportunity. So you think it was a 28 decision? You think that the moves that they've made weren't for the improvement now after three years under Ross?
You think it's another two? Well, you're always building, aren't you? I didn't expect them to be a contender this year. Did you? I would have thought they would have been pushing for the eight. Yeah, absolutely. Not a contender to win it. So it's a step, isn't it? Aren't there some steps you've got to take in the AFL system? Have they improved at all is the question.
And Ross said after the Adelaide game, I think it was, that if you take win-loss out of it, we've improved now. I think you can argue that. Midfield's improved. Those guys I just mentioned. We're not judging midfields. We're judging win-loss, aren't we? Well, at the end, it's win-loss, right? No doubt.
But I think the teams that are around the mark that St Kilda are at really find it hard to beat top four, top six teams. They do. And then the next progression is you win one out of every three, and then you win one out of every two, and you're in the hunt. I think they're miles from that. I never thought they were a flag contender this year. I never had them in the top four to six teams.
