Chapter 1: What is discussed at the start of this section?
Breakfast with Gary and Tim.
If you live the life you please. Going to have a chat with him as well. Tuesday takeaways, your calls and text messages. Always welcome. As I say, good morning. The Whisp, Tim Watson. Whispers. Good morning, Gary. Good morning, everybody. Nice drop of rain down here on the peninsula last night. Was it? A blue and a blue and a blue.
And I got up in the middle of the night to get a drink of water, stepped into a puddle. So the roof is leaking and I've got to fix that. Gary, can you come down here and give me a hand? I am. I'm actually coming down there today. I also have got some stuff I need to do. I ran out of power.
My magnificent off-the-grid system, I wandered down on Saturday just to watch a bit of footy and light the fire. And I don't know what's going on. What happened? I don't know. With my beautiful off-grid system, we've been running magnificently for seven years. Something happened. And then I went out with my glasses on. To fix it? Trying to fix it. Yeah. Did you find the manual?
Solar off-the-grid system. I saw there's some instructions that were left by the people I bought the property from, so I ran through that process, got the power back on for about eight seconds. Right. So there's something going on. So I have to go down there today as well. Well, you wouldn't have been able to do any of that had you not been able to fix the panel there at SEN.
All that time you spent with the techos last week, you put it into good use. Well done. Yeah, that's right. You must have been taking notice while they were telling you how to do it. Is there nothing more frustrating for non-handy men, speak for yourself, when something goes wrong? That gives me the height of frustration for me. Whether it's my computer that won't, whatever. Yeah.
A height of frustration. When it's a big thing like that, it's a nightmare. You know what I did use? What did you do? I went to turn the mower on. The battery was flat. Oh, what the dickens is going on down there? Someone left it on. But you know what I used, don't you? Ah, yes. The Signet. They are the best thing that you can possibly buy. How good are they? Little jumper lead.
Is that what you have? The little jumper lead one?
It's like a little portable battery charger. So you just hold it in your hand. You connect the red and the black. Push the button, zing-a-ding-ding, away I went. And that's the butcher's call. That's the butcher one, yeah.

Chapter 2: What are the challenges of maintaining an off-grid power system?
But that's okay. That's okay. They won't mind a mention. So they fired up straightaway, quick sticks, and away I went. Away you went. You've just taken my train of thought now. I forgot what it was that I was going to say before. Oh, no, I've got to do like a power tool type instructional course. Yeah. Yeah, I'll come down and give you ā I'll run through a few things with you.
What can't you work? Well, I've got all the power tools. I know you have. I've got all the power tools in the world. I've got suitcases. I've got magnificent cases full of power tools. And I don't know which one connects to which and how you put that bit in there.
You've got battery?
Are they all battery-run? Yeah, Cocky comes over, and I try and watch him really closely as to what fittings he's putting on which ones. what settings he puts them on, and I just need to do a proper course. In fact, Cocky said he saw you the other night. He was going to say hello to you. He was going to wind down the window and say hello to you in the car park.
Where was the old Cocko?
At the MCG the other night.
He was at the MCG?
Yeah, on Friday night. He was at the MCG in the car park down there, and he saw you waltzing around. He wouldn't have been in the car park I was in, the Cocky. He was in an underground one. How did he get into an underground car park? Well, he was going up to, he's got a special box up in the grandstand, the cocky box, they call it. Is that right? The cocky perch he is. Wow.
Well, you know he could have figured it out. I said, next time.

Chapter 3: What frustrations do non-handy individuals face with home repairs?
100%. That's because there are different drills for different applications. No, there's not. Different drill bits... I've been watching closely. You've got to carry six drills on your belt, do you? Sorry? I could bring Susie into the conversation now because she knows more about this stuff than I do. You've got to carry six different drills around on your work belt. No, you don't.
You've just got the one drill with the different drill bits and then you've got the button for the hammer drill and then you've got the button for whatever else it is. No, but a hammer drill is different than another drill. There are different drills. There are different types of drilling that's required. But one drill will do that. No, it won't. I beg your pardon? No, it won't.
You throw it out there. You throw it out there, and tradies will come in their droves telling you that there are different drills for different applications. Okay, 043391116. As people are quickly establishing... I don't know what I'm talking about, but on my drill, it's got a hammer drill button. You flick it if you want to use it in a hammer drill style or whatever the other style is. Right.
What's that mean? Maybe you've got a special upgraded drill that I don't have. Well, you're not going to walk around with four drills hanging off your work belt while you're working, surely. There's different sizes. What the hell are you guys talking about? I'll come down and give you a hand. Thank you.
Someone explain the difference between the hammer drill setting, like when you put it on a hammer. Yeah. What does that do? I don't know. I just use them all until one works. And then I'm sure I'm using the wrong bit because then you've got a wood, you know, you've got the drill bit for wood and then you've got the drill bit for concrete. Then you've got the drill bit for go through the metal.
Right. Yeah, right. And then I'm drilling the wrong one and all of a sudden the drill's about 3,000 degree hot. Yeah. In all sorts. Well, that's because if you're going through metal or you're going through wood, you've got to have a different bit. Well, I understand that. You do? I do, but yeah, yes, I do. You've got to use the appropriate drill bit, but I'm not quite sure which one's which.
Right. What sort of feedback are you getting right now? You need a normal drill, yes. I'm not even prepared to look. And they have a hammer function, but that sucks. You need an S... An SDS drill. And then Milwaukee. Milwaukee. It doesn't matter.
What brand have you got?
We've got the DeWalt. You've got a DeWalt set. When I got a DeWalt set. Like the suitcase, yeah. I've got Milwaukee as well. Yes, I have. You haven't got a BT set up. Yes, and I've got an Ego. He's gone all political. Yeah, they do. They do all that stuff. Yeah, they do all of that stuff. He's gone all political, BT. You wouldn't have seen any stuff that he's been doing.

Chapter 4: How does the conversation shift towards discussing tools and their uses?
And then when it came time to change our cars over, because we had the station wagons and we went back to shifter and Kevin Sheehan said, here, shifty, we've got the speedos up. He goes, yep, righto, we'll change the cars over. And he said, after a day, he said, the bloke said that all three of your cars had this micro cracking all over the paint, all over the outside, the Duco.
What's that about? And Spud goes... Hailstorm, hailstorm shifter. We went through a hailstorm down Frelgen one way. Shifter said, oh, it was all the eggs hitting the side and splintering. Anyway, I don't suggest you do that. I don't think that'll wash in today's three AFL blokes driving down there. I don't think so. I don't know how lucky he got.
I think the police do a fantastic job, and I would not like to be a policeman. It would be a very, very tough job to be. But how they got the police involved in this remains the greatest mystery to me. Because when we had our car stolen up in Albert Park, I rang the police to let them know that the car had been stolen. They just took my name over the phone. We didn't even see anyone.
They didn't turn up to see whether or not there was any CCTV vision in the street or anything. So why did they turn up to this one? Ah, well, that's the profile. They must have had a couple of spare minutes on their hands. 8045, he's apologised profusely. He said he had a bad moment and that please let him continue to text in.
Well, we will at this stage, but thank goodness you've seen the error of your ways. Glenn's in Fitzroy. Go, Glenn.
Hey, Gary, how are you?
Well, going okay for 6.15 of a Tuesday morning. How are you going?
Pretty good. Good. Hey, the drill. I've got a dual-mode drill, hammer and normal, and the hammer drill, you use a special bit for going through masonry and concrete, but you can use the same drill for going through wood. You change to a normal drill bit for that, and you switch it over. Yes, I thought that was a good idea.
I've got a place in Inderloch and it's the old problem of birds getting in your wood fire chimney and I can't for the life of me work out what to do have you got any tips yeah I'd get a nice marinade and find the bird if you can find a way of cooking it slowly in the chimney that would be a magnificent bird to eat what sort of bird was it

Chapter 5: What are the emotional impacts of coaching decisions in football?
And we cop this. I say this all the time. And that's okay. I understand how emotional this whole game is. And, you know, you now think that Tim's part of a Paul Little conspiracy.
Chapter 6: How does Dermot Brereton's support for James Hird influence opinions?
Well, that's just nonsense, Hugh. But that is what you're hearing. So you can't change people's opinions. That's just the way it is. Well, have a listen to this opinion because I heard this last night. This is as strong as anyone that I've heard that came out in support of James Heard. This is from Dermot Brereton, of all people, the Hawthorne legend.
A lot of people will say that 10 years out of the AFL coaching box is way too long to pick it up and start again. That's absolute rot. That's not as if they play behind drawn curtains and no one sees a game style. If you understand the game, you can see the game. You can coach the game.
By coming out the other day saying you wanted the job, it's kept away a few really notable names in the coaching ranks. That might just about be... Checkmate. And for those that are interested, he does travel with that violinist now.
Chapter 7: What are the challenges faced by Essendon in their coaching search?
He did play in his own music while he was there. He does. He's been tucked away there learning, I think it's the violin that was playing in the background. But, you know, Dermot's a well-credentialed, thoughtful football person. That's right. And everyone, I'm sure, you know, you've got your sources, Caro Wood. I've spoken to people over the last couple of days.
I think there is enough evidence to suggest that this is simply not a case of James who had been appointed, which when we left this last Thursday, that was the overwhelming sentiment. As again, perception, reality matters. vocal minority, vocal majority, you work out your own mind. But that was kind of where the narrative was going.
And then I kept reading over the weekend, this has been in place for, you know, a year that Kevin Sheedy's been behind this and blah, blah, blah. I think it's nearly safe to say that's not the case from what I understand. No, I think you're right. I think you're 100% right. We'll just quickly take a call. Paul's in North Ballin. Good morning. Sorry, Pete's in North Ballin. Good morning, Pete.
Chapter 8: How does team culture affect coaching success?
Morning, boys. Just a bit of the side commentary on the impact of a potential coach going for this role and the fallback should James Hurt get it. I think that's been overplayed. If you're the best potential coach, you're going to get the job. And we hear about it's going to impact their future success.
attention to a job further down the line same process if you're the best coach off the top of your head can either of you mention to me a coach that previously went for a job and didn't get it and then as a result was looked upon as a non-successful coach going forward
I know that Stephen King had gone for jobs and he got that job, so that clearly didn't count against him. Yeah, I think it comes a time, Pete, and this is where managers jump into it and they say, look, if you've been for four or five, then you start to get tarred with the brush of the perennial runner-up or the perennial third-place getter, whatever.
So they're a bit careful and cautious about how many they go for. But look, I think if... If that is your passion and that is your whole want and desire in life and there's an opportunity to go for an excellent coaching job, then jump in, jump at it. Now, I understand that this is a very unique situation too because this herd, you know, the supporter base that is there for Jimmy is real.
So there is fallout. When they appoint James or whether they don't appoint James, there's going to be fallout one way or the other. It's going to be a tough couple of years anyway for the Eastern Footy Club in terms of where they're at and how they're committed to going back down this path that Brad Scott started them on.
So I don't think there's going to be a massive bounce whoever takes over next year, for this year and beyond. I don't think, fellas, you both pushed James Hurd for coach the day before he declared his hand. You're well and truly pushing the agenda. No, we're not. What we're doing is we're just presenting to you what we knew to be the case and what I knew to be the case.
And that was that there was a strong push from a lot of SM people out there who I have known for a long time. Some of them, you know, they're fans like so many people listening to the program who want James Hurd to be the coach. Yeah. And, you know, it's a conversation that is being had everywhere in football at the moment about James.
And then James put his hand up and declared that he did want to be the coach of Essendon. So we are talking about it based on the fact that it has become a major discussion in the landscape, on the landscape of AFL football. For that person.
So that conversation is about when he does put his hand up or had put his hand up, what it means for the club and how, you know, how much of a groundswell support comes because, you know, if they don't, we were talking spitballing, if they don't appoint him, where's it going to be? We'll be here in a couple of years time. My point I will continue to make is that.
