Chapter 1: What news broke about Michael Voss's resignation?
We're about to go to a man that's going to set the news agenda for today and tomorrow and the day after. If you're a footies fan, if you're a Carlton fan, tune in. Tom Morris joins us. He was going to join us out of eight, but he's here right now. Tommy, what can you tell us?
Morning, Gary. Morning, Tim. Yes, the day has come at Carlton. Michael Voss has decided to resign effective immediately, so he will not coach the Blues again.
Right. Wow. And... Do you think that this is Michael Voss coming to the realisation that his time at Carlton has come, or is it a negotiated outcome with the Blues suggesting to him that, look, we've made our decision, we can give you the opportunity to resign because we know that happens in footy?
Yeah, the Blues really respect Michael Voss, clearly. Lots of people doing football. I think they made it pretty clear to him that they weren't going to continue with him beyond this year. It was up to him. how he proceeded from here, and he decided to resign himself rather than drag it out another few weeks and just put on a brave face.
And I think the quote from Chris Davies, their football boss on the weekend, or maybe a couple of weeks ago when he said Michael Voss is a realist, is exactly how this has played out now.
I think that was, I thought that was from the weekend, Tom, but do you think this conversation, do you think this news was delivered to Voss, say, in the last 24 hours, that he wasn't going to be the coach going forward and they've already made that decision?
Look, I'm not sure exactly when the news was delivered to him, but what I do know is that there's been really open dialogue for quite a while now between Graeme Wright and him and Chris Davies and him, and it's
Possibly not too similar from the situation where Graeme Wright went for a walk with Nathan Buckley around Collingwood's training oval in 2021 and just made it pretty clear in the best way possible that the club wouldn't proceed forward.
So look, the sackings and the sackings, I'm not sure this comes as a surprise to anyone, but I'm terming it a resignation because he's decided that he will step away now knowing that he wouldn't be coaching next year anyway. So you can phrase it however you want, but it's semantics because he won't be coaching Carlton again.

Chapter 2: What led to Michael Voss's decision to resign?
I'm not sure whether Michael Voss will be a part of that. But what I do believe is that Josh Fraser will be the interim coach. As far as I can tell, that's been on the cards for quite some time as well. I know Caro's been quite big on that.
Tommy, we're going to let you go. You've broken this story this morning, so well done to you. You're going to rejoin us at eight. I imagine that your phone's running hot and you've got calls to make, but well done. Thanks for joining us. We'll talk again at eight o'clock.
Thank you. I'll rush in there. See you guys soon.
Good on you, Tommy. Well done, too. I don't want to dance on the grave of Michael Voss, but it's a coup when a journalist breaks a story like that, Gary. Obviously, the attention quickly turns to, okay, who's going to coach Carlton, that type of thing. But your reaction first to the fact that Michael Voss has decided to move now?
No, no surprise at all. Well, I don't profess to know, but last week we talked about the options that were open and available to the Carlton Footy Club. And of course, one of them was that however it comes about, whether he sacked or whether he resigned, is that Michael's no longer the coach of the Carlton Footy Club. What I will say is this.
So just repeating the news, if you've just joined us, Tom Morris reporting that Michael Voss has resigned effective immediately as the coach of the Carlton Football Club and He suspects that Josh Fraser will be the interim coach for the rest of the season. Tom will be back at eight o'clock. A lot can happen between half past seven and eight o'clock.
So he'll be working the phones and he'll be back with us out of eight o'clock. My immediate reaction is... So I'm not a smart ale. I'm not into the news-breaking game. So I'm not surprised, but B... I want to congratulate Michael Voss for the way he has conducted himself throughout the course of this year.
So, you know, history may judge him as ultimately being unsuccessful from a coaching point of view. Now, that's harsh, but he coached Brisbane to a final. He coached the Carlton Footy Club to a prelim final. But what he has done under enormous pressure and scrutiny and been the lead story for most of the Mondays throughout the course of this year with the manner they've played and
you know, media camping out at Carlton, all those things. And this is not a knock on the media. The way he's conducted himself and handled himself in front, he never backs away. He fronts up to every request pre-game. He speaks positively. Post-game, he goes to the press conference and tries to explain the unexplainable. I think he's done it in such a manner that he loses absolutely no fans.

Chapter 3: What are the implications of Voss's resignation for Carlton?
So now that they've pulled the Band-Aid off, Which way are they going to go? Experience or new? There's a case to be made for both.
Is it a great list to get your hands on or not?
Chapter 4: Who will be the interim coach for Carlton following Voss's resignation?
Not a great list, I wouldn't say. But you're going to get some time.
But not a bad time.
No, no. That kid Cody Walker, I watched a bit of the VFL Melbourne, Casey and Carlton on the weekend, and he just jumped off the page. He just slapped you in the chops if he was that good. He'll play. So he comes. Harry Dean comes. I think there's another kid that they've got to get there. Harry Dean's there. Jagger Smith's there.
And you're going to be bought ā you'll buy some time if you get into that footy club now. It's an opportunity to go to that draft and try and maximise it as much as you can before Tassie come in.
Richie Zincolara. Good morning, Richie. Boys, good morning. How are we going? We're good, Richie. What's your reaction as a Carlton fan this morning?
Look, I mean, I think the main thing is I just feel Carlton and maybe Westview, you think the same. Maybe the Bombers need to follow the similar blueprint of what Melbourne did. Bring someone in like Rosie and just really be honest with where the state of the club is at. So guys, we don't have a lot here. We really need to trade out what we can, grab what we can, start from the bottom.
And yeah, it's going to be painful, but we really need to have a blueprint and have a core that's going to build towards something real. rather than just sort of do these lipstick on a pig sort of jobs. And, you know, Claude Jagger-Smith, you know, he's got the weight of the world on his shoulders because he's supposed to be the saviour.
Whereas it feels like they really need to just take a bit of a long-term view, a mature view, and say, where we are is realistically down the bottom and that's where we need to be and rebuild properly.
All right, Rich, thanks for your call. We've got a heap of calls, so jump on, have your say, and we'll try and whip through as many as we can. Jamie Graham is coming through as one of the candidates who's been for jobs and been very close. These are the names you're going to hear.
