Chapter 1: What insights does Touk Miller share about playing in humid conditions?
Breakfast with Gary and Tim. Great to have you with us on this Tuesday.
I did an article recently about gut runners, Tim, about the blokes that run when everyone else can't. This bloke. And I started to ask around and I just asked questions and then, you know, the one consistent name that kept coming back from players that are currently playing or have recently retired? Took.
Chapter 2: How does Touk prepare for games in Darwin's climate?
No, Matt Rau. No, it's Tooke Miller. It's Tooke Miller. His name kept coming up.
Chapter 3: What strategies does Touk use to maintain control during scrappy games?
And he's a star. And they're back on the winner's list on the weekend. They've had a very good win against the Giants. He joins us.
Chapter 4: What impact does Christian Petrarca have on the Gold Coast Suns team?
Go, Tooke.
Hey, guys. How are you?
Good to talk to you, mate. Well, tell me about those conditions on Sunday night. We're sitting here in Melbourne.
Chapter 5: How does Touk Miller view the importance of team dynamics and player roles?
It was a little brisk Sunday night, you know, by the time the game started. But you guys are playing with 90% humidity, Dimmitt told us last night.
Yeah, yeah. I guess it was a good precursor going into Darwin this week. I know that. Yeah, it was pretty warm.
Chapter 6: What challenges does Touk face with player injuries on the team?
Definitely not the type of stuff you'd get down in Melbourne at this time of year, I wouldn't have thought. But yeah, nothing that we've never played in before, but it definitely made for a bit more of a scrappier game, I think.
Tuke, with those conditions, and you've been used to those conditions because you've played in those conditions before, is there anything about the way that you can train or prepare yourself for being able to handle the ball more cleanly?
Yeah, there definitely is. But I think it's probably more from a body point of view in those conditions. But we're probably fortunate in the fact that we've been gearing up to get ready for Darwin the last two or three weeks. So we've been doing extra heat training to make sure that we're prepared for that. And I think it probably helped us on the weekend.
Chapter 7: How does the Gold Coast Suns analyze their opponents before a game?
But I do remember back in the day, we used to throw ground balls in with detergent all over them and try to work on the flat hands. But yeah, I don't think we do that quite as much. It's more about prepping the body.
Have you tried wearing gloves? Do they help at all in those conditions?
I've never tried wearing gloves. You boys have tried the sweatbands on both arms. Look, I think sometimes it's just a matter of putting your head in the hole and trying to hold on for dear life when you get the ball and trying to execute when you get your chance.
And the good thing is you're playing against a team that aren't at all suited to it. At least, as you said, you got exposed to it on Sunday night, so you get your head around it.
Chapter 8: What humorous moments does Touk share about his training experiences?
But other teams that come up there for the first time, they go, jeez, the Saints will be going. This is a whole different proposition.
Yeah, no, definitely. I've got to say, it's definitely an advantage when we do go up to Darwin, but I guess it's the beauty of us being able to play there and train in those conditions for the whole of pre-season. Yeah, it's going to be really good games and Kilda's in really good form.
Paul has also been doing some really good things recently, so I think those two games are going to be right to the line.
So they're back-to-back. Give us an idea about the travel. You go up there and you settle yourself in for a week or so?
Yeah, we got up Thursday and then, yeah, we're just kind of just a normal week for us. We're on a six-day turn, so things are a little bit quicker in terms of moving, but we'll settle in for a couple of days, play and then kind of inject ourselves in the community and have a bit of fun in the early part of the week and then get ready for port on Friday night. So it should be good fun.
Record's great. 8-2 win in Darwin, 1-8 on the bounce, Whisper. So you'd be happy to get up there.
Yeah, tough to beat up there. Christian Petrarca, the form that he's displayed in the short time that he's been up there with you has just been unbelievable. And I heard the coach talking last night too about the effect and how good he's been for some of the younger players off the field too.
Yeah, definitely. He's been such a great addition. I think it's the beauty of probably getting a player who's been in the game for quite some time and has obviously lived some pretty... big experiences both on and off the field. I think his character really helps with the younger players. He's obviously an ultra-professional. He's playing at a high level.
He's really loving the environment that he's in. And he's rubbing off the right way for a lot of people. So, yeah, we're very fortunate we've got a person like Ian at our football club. And like you said, his on-field display has been second to none at the moment. He's really playing some good football.
