Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
All right, busy first hour on Fireball. Shout out to the 701ers joining us this morning, or 501 if you're in the House of Gossage in Perth. Special guest coming right up for Signet. Life's never flat when you power every moment with the Signet Power Bank. Signet.com.
The Giants have had their challenges, there's no doubt about that, largely revolving around some of their key personnel not being there. They're 14th on the ladder, three wins and five losses with a big game looming for them against the Bombers this week. The coach is always good to us. He always has been. His name is Adam Kingsley. He joins us. Kings, thanks for your time. No worries, gentlemen.
Morning.
Morning.
How are you coping? I'm assuming it's been an incredibly frustrating year for you to date.
Um, so far it's had its moments, but, um, I mean, you can look, you can look at it like that and live in that frustration or you can, um, you know, search for the positives of, we've managed to really get a lot of games into people that, um, otherwise might not have, which is, which is going to serve us well down the, down the track.

Chapter 2: What challenges has GWS faced this season?
So we're pretty, um, We're pretty happy with that aspect of it, but we'd like to get a little bit of continuity with our team for a few weeks anyway. King, this is fireball, mate.
Tell us, how are you really feeling? Stop lying to the public, please. How are you really feeling?
It has its moments, as I said. I mean, every club goes through it, don't they? So you've got to just weather the storm whilst you're having a little bit of a bad run and get through the other end, you become better.
You'd be looking at everything and clubs would review on the run. We've spoken a bit about Richmond and their injury list. Yours has been extensive for a long period of time. What are your reviews finding, King? Is it mainly luck or is there some things that perhaps you got wrong in the pre-season? No, luck.
Luck, we had... We had some surgeries over the summer that just didn't come on. And then the weekends, for instance, we lost two with the syndesmosis, one with a concussion and Jesse got a cork to his hip that was quite restrictive. So they're all contact collision type of injuries. So you can't really do much about that.
As I said, clubs go through this at times and there's a few clubs going through it at the moment. But we'll be okay. We'll, as I said, get some games into some younger guys, build our depth, and when called upon next time, that's going to be in better shape too. So a bit of continuity with our team.
We've managed to get a few of our players who hadn't played the early part of the season back, and Daniels is one of those guys who's now stringing some games together, which is nice. He wasn't able to do that last year, so hopefully that continues, and there'll be a few others that we get back in the next few weeks.
Is it a tough balance like looking to the future but also trying to get your season back on track in the moment? What's the balance with list management, looking where your team's going to be in two years' time, whilst also knowing you, wanting to turn things around instantly on the spot? How's that balance been?
Um, it's a balance you have the whole time irrespective of what stage you're in. Um, in my view anyway, that's, um, that's something that I'm always looking at, win now, win later. And, um, you know, I think, I think we've managed to be able to, to try and do both.

Chapter 3: What strategies are in place to manage player injuries?
So, you know, I think that's going to be quite strong. I think we're close to signing a few people. But, you know, Jesse's the other one that... that we're really strong on. And, you know, the quicker we can get them done, the better for us, obviously.
But I don't think I'd be too far away. So very unlikely that Toby Green's not a giant next year? Oh, in my opinion, yes. Yeah.
You have to front up and tell the coach you're leaving. I don't think that would be a great space to start with, seeing the pipes on Kingers at the moment. I was going to ask you, when you're building an environment like you guys have been the last few years and you have so much change, Kingers, is it a challenge for you to ā I've heard Alistair Clarkson talk about culture just evolving.
When one person leaves and one comes in, your culture naturally shifts. You've lost a few over the last few years and there are a lot of younger players coming through the door at the moment. How do you address culture? How do you address the fact that you want this environment to be the way it's been for the last five or six years? How do you address that stuff?
Yeah. Oh, we just chip away at it day by day. You know, we'll have activities that are designed around culture build. You know, our leaders do a wonderful job around setting the expectations, our coaching group. And so we just, you know, it is ongoing. Yeah. But I think most cultures, there's an expectation of hard work, great preparation, have a bit of fun, work hard type of thing.
So that's certainly us. The fact that almost all of our list, barring three players, grew up and played their footy outside of Sydney and have come to us from interstate or country, New South Wales, I think it certainly helps us build a really family culture and our players are together the whole time. So great friendships and strong relationships.
We have a lot of local coaches listening this morning to the program. They love just talking a bit of footy. Are there any advice on things that they could do to build that sort of harmony at a footy club? Are there any tricks that you use to create a bit of a feel around the club?
There's a bunch of activities that I think that can help build it. It's got to be led by really good people and strong values and great standards. So typically we'll just jump on Google around connection opportunities and activities and what are some of those things that can help build that. That's typically how I do it, go to the computer.
Adam Kingsley, the Giants coach, with us. Final one from me, King, is that you were really supportive but cautious, I think is probably the term that I'd use around state of origin when we spoke to you throughout the pre-season. Would you be as supportive in its current form? We know it's coming back, Victoria taking on South Australia next time around, or would you like to see some changes?

Chapter 4: How does Adam Kingsley balance team development and immediate performance?
I wouldn't say permanent, but he'll be there for a little while, I would imagine.
Okay. Perfect.
Thank you. There's the answer they wanted. Good luck.
Go well. Thank you, boys.
McMullen, Riccardi, Hannaford, Gruszewski come in for the Giants. A lot of changes for Kingies Bombers as well. Redmond, Parrish, May, Perkins, Bryan, Johnson in the big one. Ben McKay has been omitted. We'll get to that. It's going to be hard to win a final with that lineup. A little bit later on. Well, I did say that things would have to go right. I'm just looking at the lineup.
The captain would have to want to stay. Without Gresham and McKay. There's a few caveats on that. Yeah, it might be difficult in their current spot to win a final this year, but you never know. Fireball for Dexian, Unlock Your Warehouse's potential with the latest innovations from Dexian and Fadini. Yes, Fadini this footy season. What a classic it was in Perth. Felt like a final.
Our first thoughts on the review of Thursday night footy. The Dockers getting it done against my Hawks on the other side of this.
