Chapter 1: What wellness routine does Nick Larkey follow?
Breakfast with Gary and Tim.
I'm very excited about our next guest. I think he's got up at five. I think he does a sort of wellness routine. He does a bit of hot and cold. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a half hour of yoga, a bit of meditation. He's probably done grounding, the day's work. And now he's been able to fit us in on what's been a busy morning for him. Nick Larkey, the captain of the Kangas. Welcome, Sue.
Hello, guys. I wish it was the case. But, Gaz, you know the best form of recovery is sleep, mate. So I'm actually just straight up out of bed. So sorry, boys, but thanks for having us on.
You're recovering magnificently, mate. That's what you are doing. We love it. We love when you come on.
You're still in the onesie? Are you still in the onesie, by the way, or not?
Where are you going? I've got the trackies and jumper on just in the living room here. But I've... I've got the Ugg boots on. I just got some Uggs for my birthday's coming up. So my parents got me some Uggs. So at least I'm warming them, mate.
My parents stopped giving me presents a long time ago. That's a good win and a pair of Ugg boots. Hey, what did you do? You had the weekend off. In fact, the weekend off used to be it was either a great joy or it was a great frustration. You've won with a kick after the siren going into a weekend off. That's about as good as it gets, I reckon.

Chapter 2: How did Nick Larkey feel about his recent performance?
It was unbelievable. That and Good Friday are the best wins I think I've ever been a part of. But it was a good note to go on into the bye, that's for sure. But yeah, I went and visited my sister actually up in Darwin. So we had the week from Tuesday to Sunday. So you get the whole week. So I went up there. It was good. Good circuit breaker. Good chance to... physically, mentally.
And then we had a great session yesterday back into it. So yeah, just the, Yeah, to get that scalp that we had been chasing, obviously we had a run of some pretty solid teams just before the bye, or quality teams, top eight teams. And then to get that breakthrough win, we'd been close in a fair few of them leading up to that.
It was a great reward for effort and it's given the group a lot of belief. So we've just got to keep building that and keep growing from that. But it was a great win.
Yep, it was a great win and you got a great challenge ahead of you this week. How do you feel about travelling to Bunbury to play a home game this weekend against the Dockers?
Well, actually, our experiences over there have been, like, fantastic. Like, the weather's always really turned it on for us. We stay in ā so we stay in Bunbury. It's actually a great little beach town. So the mantra's right on the hill there, overlooks the water. So you can do your proper recovery there, Gaz. You don't need to get an ice bath there. You just get in the beach.
The recovery's good there. But then we've actually, when we go down to ā when we play it opposite next to it, we stay in ā which is a good change up from usually just staying in the city in Perth. So I hadn't seen much of Perth, but then staying in Fremantle, it's really nice down there. And some of the boys obviously from WA, they know all the good spots.
And it's a good week and a bit or 10 days where you can really bond a bit more as a team, spend the whole time together. So I've actually really enjoyed it. And hopefully we can... go down there, get two, and come back. That's the plan.
With all that going on in a different environment, is it hard in any way to actually concentrate on the matter at hand?
No, I wouldn't say so. It just depends. It depends how you set up the week as leaders, how the coaches set up the week. you know, what you talk about there and making sure boys are on the same page when you go away. It's like a... All it is is just an extended away match, really.

Chapter 3: What challenges does Nick face traveling for games?
Great teammate. Works hard defensively. Uses the ball well. Good balance of inside and outside. But then, you know, you've got Shees as well. Colby's still coming along. These are the guys, and LDU's having a great season.
Is he okay? He wasn't at training yesterday, LDU.
I'm not sure. I'm not actually sure. I think he was there. He just didn't train. I think he's there giving him extra time off legs. But he was at the club. But that nucleus of that midfield have all just stepped up. They're the ones really driving the club forward with performance and how they play. We're lucky to have those boys on our side.
George, you know, there's sort of like a fashionable haircut that's in the game at the moment, the fade or the raccoon, you can call it whatever you like, but George is still rolling with the Beatles-style cut. Will he ever be influenced by these other people out there in AFL football and get his haircut in a different style, do you think, or not?
I don't think so. He can't change the man, although... Well, actually, I think it's more calculated than you might think, Tim. He likes being a little bit different, a little bit edgy, liking the different thing for the sake of going against the grain a little bit. He's a bit of a Brunswick unit, like Tom.
Charlie Conman and him are very close, and they obviously live together with Jack O'Archer, but those two, they like their different things. He's right into his music, George, so he's He actually writes songs and Charlie plays. He plays in a band, Charlie Combin. And they've got a studio together.
I reckon a lot of his look is actually, in front of you, might be a little bit influenced by the Beatles, actually, Tim, or Oasis Boys. Maybe Oasis, yeah. Yeah, the longer locks. But he's a different cat and we love him for it.
We need to explore that next time we chat with you. You could be painting them while they're playing in their sort of shed, with their shed band. Hey, before we go, Clarko ripped the gear off. Did he rip the top off down there in Bunbury and just get along the beach, early morning walks in the dick stickers? What's he up to, the old fella?
Well, actually, I was surprised. I didn't speak to him about it yesterday, but he had trackies on yesterday. What? And I was about to... A couple of boys pointed it out. I'll have to ask him about it. But he... I've never seen him ever wear trackies. He's always in the short shorts. Soft. I don't know.

Chapter 4: How does the team bond during away games?
So I wouldn't say he would be doing that in Bunbury because it's only when it's freezing cold he gets the shirt off. But we'll ask him.
Just ask. Just tell him that Tim and I want to know what he's up to there. Hey, we're loving this mini-resurgence. I know you're not satisfied. It's five wins, but that's a good start. And there's bigger scalps to be got in the next half of the year. But we love when you jump on and have a chat with us, mate. So enjoy Western Australia. I hope you get the result you're after.
Thanks, H. Goats. Cheers, Tim. Thanks, guys. Appreciate it.
One of footy's great fellas, Nick Larkey, the North Melbourne captain. We've got to take a break. 8.30 news headlines. Grant Thomas, not too far away.
