Josh Carr in a matter of moments, but we were unsuccessful in the first attempt for Balls for Ballers, Kingy. So do you want to go again just before we get to Carrie? So pull a ball out. 10 Sherons up for grabs. 10 minutes to call. Number 259. Number 259. If you can go to your sheet and just sort that out, of course. All this thanks to Sharon.
Nacho Ares 0:27
Two, five, nines down the bottom here. The Lancaster Wombats. Where are they? Gosh, we're going to have to look them up. The Wombats.
David King 0:38
All right.
Nacho Ares 0:39
Not often have I come across a team called the Wombats.
David King 0:42
You've got ten minutes. Port Adelaide getting it done by 21 points against North Melbourne. The coach, Josh Carey, joins us. Carey, thanks for your time. No worries, boys. Good to be on the show.
Nacho Ares 0:51
Do you know where the Lancaster Wombats is? Carey.
Josh Carr 0:55
I'd have no idea, King. No idea at all.
David King 0:59
A very impressive afternoon, Kari. You must have been thrilled with that performance, particularly defensively.
Josh Carr 1:05
I was thrilled with the result in the end to get the win. I thought first half in particular, we probably lacked a bit of energy in our game and more offensively and around the contest and just felt like we gave Kangaroo's first look at the footy. I was happy with the way we stood up behind the footy and defensively and it kept us in the game. And third quarter was a bit disappointing. But in the end, the last quarter, I just thought the attitude towards the footy to just get after it and win it gave us a good look at it.
Nacho Ares 1:36
Tell us about your leaders, Kari. Do you get them together and challenge them? I know they're self-motivators. You just see the way they play and the authority which they bring. But what's the challenge from you to them in-game? How does that unfold?
Josh Carr 1:51
Well, I think there's been enormous growth in all of them. From what we started with to, I guess, the leadership group that they are now. And obviously, Zach's the captain. He leads the way from the front and gets in there and

What were the highlights of Port Adelaide's recent win against North Melbourne?

and wins the footy. But, you know, the growth of guys like Horne Francis and even Aaliyah behind the footy, you know, the demanding aspect of his game with the players around him. And then, you know, throwing Bergman around him and, I don't know, it just feels like each week they're growing as leaders and they're really easy to talk to during a game. And, you know, someone like a Hornet, he's a good one. He always knows what's going on in the game. He comes from the bench and he's just matured so much in his footy. And, you know, you can lean on him to say, you know, right now we need you to get in there and get it.
Nacho Ares 2:40
Have you ever heard so many whistles in all your life?
Josh Carr 2:45
There was a few, wasn't there? There was a few. You know, a lot around the contest. And whether they're there or not, I'm not sure. I haven't reviewed the game. You know, it did feel like in the first half, especially, I did feel like we, you know, were giving the Kangaroo players a fair look at it. And they put their head over the ball and were a bit sloppy with the free kicks.
David King 3:05
Yeah, there's about 40 of them that weren't there, Kari. But anyway, that's not one for you. Hey, Whitlock's a player.

How did Josh Carr assess the team's performance defensively?

David King 3:12
I'm not telling anyone anything they don't know here for those that have watched Port Adelaide closely. But what can this guy be after sort of three or four pre-seasons in the gym?
Josh Carr 3:21
Yeah, I think that's the thing, Cain. It's the gym that he gets a bit stronger and a bit bigger because he loves the contest and loves the physical aspect of the game. When we've challenged him to go into rucks, it's his second ruck this year and we haven't done that for probably the last few weeks. He loves it and he's enjoyed it. So he's got a great appetite for the contest and he's also got a great appetite for getting better and especially in the gym. He's probably in an area where he's got to keep working and improving to strengthen his game because he does enjoy the long down the line in the contest. He's just at times probably can get pushed off a little bit.
David King 3:57
we can't have you on and not ask about one of the biggest stories in footy.
