Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Breakfast with Gary and Tim. Conversation starters. Life's never flat when you power every moment with a Signet power bank. Signet.com
What a joy it is this morning. Chadston Toyota and Tommy Lynch has wandered in before 7 o'clock, if you don't mind. I think he's on his way into the club. He's an ambassador here at this fine establishment. And he's timed it magnificently because the win over the West Coast on the weekend was one full of grit. Tim, welcome, Tommy.
Thanks for having me on, Gaz and Tim.
It's good to be here. You do a bit of work here with the boys? Just wash a few cars and...
Change the oil? No, I'm pretty lucky. I don't do too much, but it lets me drive around a nice Toyota Kluger. So the hybrid version, it's nice with the fuel process these days to get it around. Damn straight. Yeah, no, I'm pretty lucky.
Yeah, what a great result it was on the weekend. Those wins have probably all been part of them at some point. Well, maybe you didn't, but when your team's been struggling and you just go across and you win against the odds, it's pretty special.
Yeah, obviously, first win of the season, it was nice to get that. And away trips are great.

Chapter 2: What insights does Tom Lynch share about the Tigers' first win of the season?
You can spend a lot of time with each other. Good bonding exercise. So, yeah, it was good to get the reward for effort. Obviously, West Coast are in a similar path as us at the moment, developing and things like that. And, yeah, to come away with a win was really, like, it was just good reward for effort for everyone in the club.
Was that one of the best wins you've ever been involved in, given the circumstances that surrounded the game? Or was that too much to say? Not your best ever win. They didn't win two premierships. No, I mean, against the odds, OK? Maybe I'll preface it by saying one of the against-the-odd title wins. That's better. Sorry.
Carlton was probably more against the odds around last year when we knocked him off.
All right, good point.
Okay, this year, was it your best win?
That's what I mean, the best win you've had this year. Absolutely. It was good coming yesterday. We reviewed it exactly the same way we've been reviewing. Obviously, prior to... the weekend and just being honest, we've got to get better in a lot of areas. We're trying to get better and a few things were coming out, but there's still a lot of area for improvement.
I love, I saw the, I don't know whether you saw the video of Uzay speaking that, it might have been on your show, I think I saw it on 360 the other night, that the club had released. It might have been post-game, it might have been your early meeting this week, but I just really loved the measured way and the optimism that he was selling that group of players because it's,
When you are a young group and you're not winning a lot of games and you're not sure whether or not your place in the game is where it should be, that type of thing, it really is something that needs to be considered and rammed home to the players constantly.
Yeah, absolutely. Clearly, we're not getting carried away first win of the year, but it is... if we keep working on this path, keep working the path, we'll get better. And it was just the young guys thinking, when's their next win coming from, which is natural, and are we going to win this year, and all those sorts come into it.

Chapter 3: How does Tom Lynch reflect on the team's performance against the West Coast Eagles?
Dustin came in during the weekend, had a bit of interview with the group, and he said his first year, they didn't win until round 10. It was Dimas' first year. And I think it really hit home with the under. I was thinking, geez, wow, that's Dustin Martin. They didn't win until round 10. And, like, you all...
Throughout your career, you go through, obviously, if you're lucky enough to be Joel Sale, which is win every week, but you're going to spend time down the bottom of the ladder and you've just got to keep working hard, staying together as a group and keep believing in the system.
I say that all the time. It's just sliding doors. I talked to Tim about Nate Caddy the other day. It's just so happening where he goes to Essendon at a time when they're really battling and then you see Logan Morris goes to Brisbane at a time when they're flying. So, you know, that's the circumstances and the quality will rise to the top. So just on Dusty, I wasn't aware of that.
So he came and addressed the whole group.
Yeah, we just got him in. Chris Newman's been organised a couple of past plays. We had Francis Burke come in and getting Seth Campbell actually interviewed him. It's just good development for the young guys. And Taj Hodden interviewed Dustin. And it was a quick conversation. It was just 15 minutes.

Chapter 4: What does Tom Lynch consider the significance of their recent win?
But Dustin was awesome. He just spoke about sort of the journey and...
ways he got better and it took him a while to get to know how to be the best player and as evolution you go through and I really a lot of things we've been trying to tell the young guys but it's it's like your parents tell you something you don't listen to them but it doesn't come in and they're all eyes and they're all really keen to hear so yeah it was really just rammed home a lot of things we've been trying to enforce the young group
That is a really powerful thing. Because to say that he had to wait till round 10 to have his first win, is that what you're saying?
Yeah, so it was Dimmer's first year. So obviously Dimmer didn't win till round 10. So the young boys were pretty shocked that that happened. 100%. Yeah.
So you look at that, and these guys are thinking this is not how AFL footy should be, but then you go, no, no, this is one of the all-timers. He had to wait longer than you guys on the back of what you've done on the weekend. So, no, that's a great message. And then he went up and played up in Port Douglas and kicked a couple of snags. He looked in pretty good nick.
Yeah, he's pretty fit at the moment. He's... That's one thing. He loves his training, keeps fit. So yeah, I think he enjoyed it up there.
So about the craft, like Gary often being a key position player as he was and forward and back and he talks about the craft of the forwards and when he breaks down the game and analysing that type of thing. Stuff that you've obviously had to be taught over a period of time. How much can you fast track?
If you look at, say, your key position players now, can you really fast track that forward craft?
Oh, well, that's what we're trying to do. We're doing a lot of work. on the training track, low level in the sports hall, looking at your vision and things like that. I think being key forward is very hard because generally, especially if you drafted early, you would have dominated your opponent and you're usually quicker, stronger, faster.

Chapter 5: How is the team's development strategy evolving this season?
LAUGHTER
I started construction management at RMIT, but I buggered up this semester. I didn't pay my fees in time, so they booted me up this semester. I've got a bit of free time, unfortunately. And I actually did a couple of assignments, so that was a waste of time. Are you a golfer? I'm a bad one.
Yeah, now join the club. Yeah, good to talk to you, mate. I was really thrilled. I mean, you've been through the full circle, as Tim rightly pointed out. You know, an expansion team was always going to be hard. Then you have great premiership success. And now you're back, hopefully building the next premiership with the Richmond boys. Not sure you'll be there for it. Hopefully you can be.
But you're going to have a big legacy, there's no doubt. So we appreciate you dropping in.
Thanks, guys.
Thanks, Tim. Tommy Lynch, he's a star. The Richmond Footy Club, the Tigers, better win. It's a very interesting point. So Dustin waited 10 weeks. So those boys are about eight weeks better off than him. We'll take a break and be back with more after this.
